y0, real talk. Being from Charlotte and only about 3hrs from the ATL I use to always hear my older family members who were in college talking about it every year. Then all of a sudden it stopped. I got to college and it was long gone! The only thing close to it these days is either Black Bike Week in Myrtle Beach or CIAA here in Charlotte.

Me and my dude were just talking about this.

Were there any "unofficial" versions of it after the official was put to rest?

Maaaaaaaaan I've always thought about this. I had heard about FreakNik for years, since probably the early 90's, but by the time I was of age, it seemed to just fade away. Think the same thing happened to the Kappa/Texas Beach Party. all the chicks that would be FreakNik chicks are just IG/twitter honeys with booking info on their profiles.

My cousin (whose 31 now) was at the prime age for all that stuff. Was lucky enough to see old disposable pics of that back then

Bruh!

The stories I've heard.

Closet thing to me was the Derby.

Kentucky Derby that is.

Used to set off before they shut it down,

The Black Family Reunion used to go hard here too,

Same thing happened to me except on the West Coast. In the late 80's and early 90's it was Palm Springs for Spring Break. They'd shut the main street down and it was all college kids just doing whatever. My brother would always go and tell me great stories and I couldn't wait to turn 18. And the freaking year I finally do they shut it down. Was extra bummed.
