Truck Day is tomorrow (2/12/15) so I figured it's time to get the season thread kicked off. Come on in, post your thoughts, concerns, predictions, etc....

Key additions:
Hanley Ramirez
Pablo Sandoval
Rick Porcello
Wade Miley
Justin Masterson (welcome back, fam :pimp: )

Offensively, I think we should be in better shape. Added some guys who should do quite well in our park. As of now, I see our lineup looking something like:

1) Betts (RF)
2) Pedroia (2B)
3) Ortiz (DH)
4) Ramirez (LF) - wish it was Manny
5) Napoli - (1B)
6) Castillo (CF)
7) Sandoval (3B)
8 ) Boegarts (SS)
9) Vazques/Hanigan (C)

Off the bench we've got:
Victorino (OF)
Craig (1B/OF)
Holt (IF/OF)
Bradley Jr (OF)
Nava (OF)

That's heading into Spring Training. A lot can change between now and then. In particular, I don't expect Craig to still be on the team. We should move him. Also, would love to see JBJ and Holt really step up and push the level of competition.

As for our rotation and pen:

SP) Porcello
SP) Buchholz
SP) Miley
SP) Masterson
SP) Kelly
SP) Workman

RP) Mujica
RP) Tazawa
RP) Varvaro
RP) Breslow
RP) Ogando
RP) Ross Jr.
RP) Spruill
RP) Layne
RP) Hembree
RP) Wright

CP) Uehara

We really have no true ace. Hopefully Porcello and Buchholz can really deliver this year. Especially Buchholz. He needs to step up and stay healthy. Love that Masterson is back. I've always liked him. I think he'll do better this year than his 2014. Joe Kelly in the last spot is not bad, not if he can replicate what he did for us last year. Can't expect much more from the bottom of the rotation. Workman is first man into the rotation and will get his shot, no doubt. And our pen is going to be a little light in the middle. Back end is solid. Hopefully Koji can get back on his game after that shaky portion of last season.

Pitchers and catchers in 8 days. Full squad workout in 13 days. Spring training games start March 3rd. Go Sox!

RIP wendell kim :frown:

I met Wendell Kim around 97-98. Was a youngin but I remember it pretty vividly for some reason. Seemed like a super nice guy

RIP |I

DSA, assuming Betts is here for the whole season, what kind of season are you projecting him to have ?

The lineup is pretty stacked this year. Hopefully he can find his groove and not try to do too much at the plate

yeah i think that'll be key (him not trying to do too much). everything i've seen has him slated to lead off which makes sense. i think he should do well in that spot. assuming he can get on, i think he'll really do work in terms of scoring runs given the bats behind him. .285/10/65 would be great from him. and if he can steal some bags, even better. hoping he gets off to a good start in camp so there is minimal shifting around in the lineup with him. want him to get really set in that lead off spot.

Classic Pablo. He's gonna be fine but I also could see him turning into Mo Vaughn with the Angels

He always shows up to spring training fat, so it should be fine, but does make you worry a bit considering he has a record of playing better when in shape and he's already had his payday

Hopefully I'm just being a pessimistic boston sports fan

I dont agree with the bolded.

Maybe i didn't word that right, I mean more that why would the giants spend so much time trying to keep his weight down if they thought it didn't effect his performance?

plus i just did some research and realized i was slightly incorrect

, but there has to be some correlation between his fitness level and ability to play well, especially defensively

By the way.....was looking at this picture again.  I don't think Pablo is nearly as fat as people are making it out to be.  You see that black thing hanging out of his shirt that looks like a strap?  I think Pablo has something underneath his shirt.  Looks like there is an edge to whatever it is right on the top of his stomach (in between where his elbows are).

was wondering what that little strap hanging down is

Might be the drawstring for his shorts? But it might be too high up for that, he could have something on under his shirt

I think he does.  He is fat, but whatever he is wearing is making him look fatter.

RIP, "Wave 'Em Home."

Like the Ogando signing. 1-year deal is low risk, only $1.5M guaranteed. Ogando had a miserable 2014 season, but he's versatile and comfortable in numerous pitching roles. Limit his appearances out of the pen due to concerning injury history.

Joe Kelly in the last spot is not bad, not if he can replicate what he did for us last year.
Kelly was probably trolling about winning the Cy Young or merely inspired by Kluber's meteoric rise, but I'm expecting him to win 12 to 14 games this season. No joke.

My only concern is he's never thrown more than 124 innings in a single season.

Very pleased Cherington hasn't moved Betts for an arm or otherwise thus far. Mookie does get overly aggressive at the plate, but he's born to be a leadoff or #2 hitter in the long-term future. Has the athleticism and speed to be a plus defender in the majors.

Hope we have a turn around season. Trying to go to Fenway for the first time this year. Went to Boston last year during the marathon and loved it.
