Anyone ever change their name?

I actually had my last named changed when i was about 6-7 years old. Dont remember too much but i know we had to go to court in front of a judge and i had to say that i was ok with my name being changed, seeing as how i was so young i always wondered what would he have done if i said no lol. I also believe the name change cost about $475 at the time not too sure tho. Also not sure how long it took to get my new birth certificate and SS card

Im going to for a similar reason as well. But my primary reason is my name is too African fro the west. From what I hear that actually increases your chance of employment but IDK from experience. Tho I am guessing you dont have an african name so it shouldnt increase your chance but it shouldnt hurt.

Hope that answers your question OP

That's a terrible reason to change your name

OP- I did the exact same thing. I legally changed my last name before I graduated college so that my mom and grandma's last name would be on my diploma. My dad bailed when I was in middle school and I had grown up on my mom's side of the family anyway. I felt it was only right that I carry my FAMILY name into my adult life. It wasn't hard at all to get a job because you're issued a SSN card and other legal documents. It's just a very lengthy process because you have to run an announcement in the news paper for a month or so.

Good stuff my dude. Repped.

You summed it up pretty well, man. I just don't feel like my current last name, the name that I will pass down some day, is indicative of the people I truly consider my family. It just seems to make the most sense. Glad I got the process started. :pimp:

I'm graduating in July and I'm really hoping I get it done in time for it to be on my masters degree.

My homies name is Tyrone and couldn't get anyone to return his phone calls when he was searching for an apartment around campus. He started saying his name was Bruce (only cause he's a batman fan)

Tyrone is Filipino.

funny but this is exactly what I was tahm bout earlier. It's no secret that you can be more than qualified for a job and see your application go straight to the garbage for this reason alone. Didnt even think to consider it would be the same for housing applications as it would be for job applications

If you can't get a job because of your name...you probably should have been an entrepreneur.

God forbid my future depended on my ability to "get a job".

had intent to change first name. after reading this, i will also change my last name

Figured I'd give you guys an update.

I went through with it. Cost about $300. $285 to file the petition in the courts and $15 to run the ad in the need paper. I'm set to go to court on April 8th to have it all finalized. Pretty stoked about it, Although there's the whole ordeal of changing my pass port, license, bills, etc. Not looking forward to that. :smh:

run an ad in the paper...

at first i wondered why but then i thought about it

what's the point of the newspaper add?

If I had kids, I don't think I'd want to name them after myself.

^^^ to show you're not on the run?...

Huh..

Wouldn't the government know anyways as they do some background work before they approve it?

I meant more like on the run from a person. Your filing gov papers to do the change so of course you cant run from them
or their sub divisions.
I'm thinking the add is to make the change traceable to the public.
Just a guess tho.

Yeah that's what I was thinking because of some type of debt you may owe or if you have any warrants or something
