More than the regulars will be in this thread today. Someone is more than likely coming in here and spoiling something

Let me ask you guys a question, what do you guys consider to be an international player? I was having a conversation about Porzingis today and people are back on their "You dont take international players in the lottery, it rarely pans out" nonsense and a tweet from Jay Bilas was referenced.
Since Yao Ming was drafted No. 1 in 2002, 19 international players were Lottery Picks, none were ever All-Stars. H/T ESPN Stats and Info.

So I say "What about Al Horford, he was a lottery pick in 07 and has been an all star three times.", and thats devalued because he came to America when he was 14, and it spawned a conversation about what is considered an international player and somehow the line was established that if you play American Basketball, especially in college then you're no longer a true international player, so basically it rules out like 90% of the international guys.

Not to mention that theory completely contradicts what the NBA itself labels an international player to be, so IDK what ESPN is on, and just dont agree with that definition of what an international player is.

Just wanted to see what you guys think.

What year was Tony Parker drafted.

Or Marc Gasol..is it cause he played hs ball in the states it doesn't count

Neither guys were lottery picks.

But yeah thats the crazy logic that ESPN is going with in terms of defining international players. Its so dumb

I know horford at least played at Florida.. Not sure if he was there for high school too

But for me and I think most, it's guys who play outside of the U.S. Every step of the way.. So no high school, aau or college

Interesting. Maybe I am on the wrong side of the fence with this one.

I started getting into this argument and by the logic Hakeem Olajuwon and Tim Duncan aren't international players either and they were like no they are not. Nor is Andrew Wiggins

Adding to Bilas' tweet...

I saw another tweet that said something along the lines of "of the last 21 int'l players drafted, three of them were all-stars..."

...but, to be fair, the percentage of americans being drafted in the lottery isn't all that great either.

So, I'm not buying the whole international thing.

Sorta hoping Jah falls to philly at 3rd so the Celtics trade with us to get that 3rd pick. They are willing to trade away ALOT of assets from what Ive read..

if the lakers truly draft Russell though...man

Just look at it in terms of experience for evaluation purposes..

If they only essentially have fiba, Olympics, world championships, qualifying games for those and/or international leagues then the guy is 'international'
