The 2015 NBA Draft Thread: Draft Day Is Here

"The only problem is it's not 10 years ago and most teams don't want to play that way anymore. They value spacing on offense and rim protection on defense. Okafor's offensive strengths are minimized by his defensive shortcomings. Modern big men are also expected to step out and shoot 18-20 footers if not extend all the way to the three-point line, leaving the paint open for slashers and creators to drive to the basket."

The only problem?

This boggles my mind that it's even a question between him and KAT. That he's even considered an elite prospect for the NBA in 2015 is hard for me to understand. I don't know. He just doesn't fit well with anything I'm watching. Maybe I'm just crazy. I'd love to hear and read more about this. It's fascinating to me that he's so highly ranked.

He's no Shaq but based on this logic, a prime shaq has no place in today's nba. Just because Lebron needs his bigs to hover around the three point line doesn't mean all teams are looking for that. And when has Towns shown his ability to shoot from 18 out?

Yet these the same dudes who rave about Gasol, Z-Bo, and Al Jefferson. Have they won rings? No, but that's more a product of the team around them, not a direct reflection of their productivity.
Timothy duncan would like to have a word with you.

All through his prep career and workouts he's shown 3pt range, what are you talking about fam?

As we've seen with Anthony Davis and Randle, Cal doesn't like big guys shooting at UK.

haven't seen much of his prep career but cool. but those who have seen it have seen more than highlights on youtube im assuming.

imma need to see game action and not highlight reel shooting. but my point is okafor will be fine in the league. im sure he has prep school reels where there are some jumpers thrown in there.

*i'd rather my big man be able to back down and go over both shoulders as opposed to being able to shoot from deep

You are clearly at one end of the spectrum. He's not a damn bum.

The "...but look at the modern NBA!!" type groupthink is reaching a new level. Annoying *** rhetoric every single day.

can't see Towns turning down a meeting with the Wolves. doesn't seem like that type of kid.

same here but you know how the media is always trying to stir stuff up for their own benefit

if I'm the Wolves and I really want Okafor more, I'm offering the 1 to LA for the 2 and 27.

Being that Towns played high school ball in NJ and was coached by one of my former coaches in AAU, I've watched a lot of his games, he can back you down or shot the 3, pick your poison.

Like Awwsome said, Cal doesn't let his bigs shoot the 3 unless you're a stretch 4 like Kyle Wiltjer or Derek Willis

can't stand these bums man they just want to conjure controversy for their own benefit

That's coolio....I hope Towns (or whomever decides this for him) doesn't opt to be a 3 point shooter in the league. I want to see 7ft dudes dominate in the paint.

JohnnyRed, aren't you part of the media?

Yeah. He's been angling for a job at Bleacher Report.:D

Lakers are taking Towns or Okafor, nobody else is in the discussion.

Okafor getting crapped on like he's a bum. Like he can't improve on defense or his free throw shooting if he works at it. Or like we won't have 70 mil to spend next offseason to surround him and Julius the great with perimeter players/defenders. The ascent has officially begun.

How many 51% free throw shooters end up improving to respectability? No one is acting like he's a bum. Just very possible that he has the lowest ceiling out of anyone who's in the top 4. Especially with Al Jefferson and Brook Lopez comparisons.

Blake Griffin comes to mind immediately.

And it's not like he has to be great. 65-70% with how skilled he is on the block will be outstanding.

hey I quit BR after they refused to give me a job after leading me on for 2 years that a position would be in the pipeline  End of the day I am and will always be a writer. I'm not nor ever will count myself as a member of the media. Just a guy that likes analyzing sports through the written and spoken word.
