Any of you on government welfare programs?

No disrespect. But why ask NT how it works when you can find out any info you need from the website?

What's the fun in that? It's easy to get the basic info but I want to hear people's personal stories about their use of welfare programs. NT is a community...rarely is there a true "need" to post anything except to discuss. Also, I'm new to needing any sort of financial help so maybe there are better options that others more in the know could point me to.

Wish I could've gotten food stamps back in college. Had friends whose parents made waaaay more money than mine, yet they were on food stamps like crazy

Had an aunt who had food stamps, and as a kid I always wondered why their crib was always chock full of delicious *** snacks and ****. My mom had to explain that the gubment was helping out there.

Wouldn't think twice about applying for food stamps if I really needed to.

I feel you. I thought you were just asking how it works. If you are asking for experiences, yea that makes sense.

Yea that is another missed opportunity. It wasn't until SR year when I was told that I could have done that. Anytime someone makes a, "I am going to college" thread, we should make sure we let them know to take advantage of that.

Yeah, this food stamp thing is bananas to me. I didn't realize they just give out free food basically. I am super broke (grad school) and my work doesn't start for like another 9 months. Is it embarrassing....do you get actual stamps or something you gotta count out and hand to clerks lol? Please tell me it's a card or something by now.

Literally, the only thing I spend money on is food + gas. It'd be real nice to have some help. Anybody know how long the process takes/any base requirements?

I'm in debt + just graduated + no income + staying with rents for a few months (but they don't claim me as a dependent or anything).

I tried applying for EBT many times. Not because I needed it, but because I figured I can cut costs on groceries and use the saved money for a new Tito Jesus or something.

I would have all the docs and paperwork ready, but everytime I would step into the office/center, I had to make a 360 and turn around. My pride wouldn't let me do it. And I ain't want no one I knew seeing me. How ima look hopping out of a Lex Bubble asking for govt assistance?

You've been conditioned into feeling as if you shouldn't accept assistance from your own government

I've had ebt. :pimp: you just go in and tell them you're hungry and need help. They'll give you a card on the spot. I got 300 a month for six months.
