Help an Aussie out visiting the US

Your length of stay for your trip sounds decent. I'd recommend cutting NY down to 5 days, and including San Diego to your Southern California trip. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't go to SD since it's a much better city than LA.

My pleasure, enjoy your trip.

Additional:
If you like sushi, Sake Bar Hagi in Midtown after midnight. Food specials and wide variety of sake plus Japanese whiskey.

Lenny's is a sandwich chain if you want a quick, relatively inexpensive meal. I recommend the Jimmy T.

Katz's Deli is overpriced and generally overrated.

Looks like ill need to hit up Lenny's instead of Katz's for a sandwich... I checked out their website and looks like they've got a few joints spreadout through NYC which is good.

Do you recommend any other cheap eats for us to try in NYC which are loved by the locals? Might do a night or 2 of fine dining but I wanna sample as much local and relatively cheap food I can eat...

How long is the drive down to SD? My uncle lives in LA so might i get him to drive the missus and I down there to check it out for a day

Anywhere from 2 to 3 hours.

-Uber or Lyft are your best options to get to a certain place. Nobody really uses taxis here.
-Beware traffic hours 4-6pm 8-10am.
-West Hollywoods nightlife is more for gays. So don't be too shocked lol
-I would recommend checking the SoCal food thread. You can find a lot of local gems
-just tell em your Australian and don't tip lol if you feel guilty just leave 15% of the bill.
-I would check stubhub for nba tickets. The closer it is to gametime the less the tickets get

It's a few hours.

San Diego is the best city in SoCal, one day isn't enough but if that's all you're willing to do then make sure you check it out. Make sure you hit up Coronado beach :pimp:.

Wise choice. Lenny's isn't fancy by any means, but quick and $8 for a good sandwich does the trick. Plus as you mentioned, there's 18 locations spread across NYC. Talk about convenient.

slicknick951 slicknick951 mentioned Halal Guys. Bit of a tourist trap, but $7 for a healthy-sized platter is appreciated. You can do lamb, chicken, or mixed. White sauce is amazing, hot sauce if you like spicy. Tastes even better when intoxicated.

For a great Happy Hour deal, Quinn's, where I go for Real Madrid matches. 2 for 1 beer specials: Heineken Mondays, Brooklyn Lager Tuesdays, Bass Ale Wednesdays.

Organika for organic food, if you and your significant other are into that.

For fine dining, Stanton Social (tapas) by chef Chris Santos. Union Square Cafe by Danny Meyer.

Cheap NYC pizza: 2 Bros. $1 slices. It's like $2.75 for two slices and a canned drink.

Bar Coastal for wings.

In vegas; No Uber.  There are free limo services if you're going to strip clubs though.  There is a Shake Shake, Five Guys, In-N-Out, and White Castle in Vegas.  You're Australian?  check out Thunder from Down Under.

I would chop a few days off New York and spend them in DC.

The hotel I'm looking to stay at has a 2 Bros only about 50m from the hotel... Interesting... That could be my late night feed after a few beers...

Your trip sounds expensive. You should rent a car in LA though with GPS. Driving isnt very difficult in CA, except for SF.

Good thread. Heading to LA in October too....from Sydney

Definitely taking notes.

Just one question.. When's the best time to buy NBA tickets for the opening week? I know Lakers usually plays in the first day of the season.

I think NBA releases the schedule around July- August? ... so should I try and buy tickets right after? ... I ask the same question in Lakers thread but nobody cares  :smh:

I usually try and get my tickets 3-4 weeks prior.

Once I bought tickets day of for a Lakers game, box seats for $100.

$100? thats a good seat, yea?.. Really want something a bit close but affordable ... in Staples  .. if thats possible

I live in SF.

LMK what kinds of food you're into. Tipping wise, 10% of pre taxed amount = mediocre service, 15% = good, 20% = great.
