K, If you dont wanna spend to much money, heres what i would do,
Lodging - Check hotels.com/orbitz/kayak but also check air b&b, you can get some awesome deals,If your are on a budget you won't need a fancy hotel, you can enjoy hawaii without a 5 star hotel, you only need a place to sleep. *If you do plan on drinking, i would stay somewhere in town.  There are A LOT of DUI patrols, road blocks in Waikiki almost every weekend. Do not risk getting a DUI there, its gonna cost you to have to go back and forth for your court dates.  Most of my friends were stupid enough to get multiple DUIs

Luau - http://www.germainesluau.com/  - Kinda expensive but if its something you wanna do then check them out or check this out
PCC - Polynesian cultural center  -http://www.polynesia.com/
You're gonna have to spend some money of this if this is something you wanna do.  Very touristy but who gives a ****, do what you want.

Cheap snorkeling
http://www.yelp.com/biz/hanauma-bay-nature-preserve-park-honolulu -Hanauma Bay - Again very touristy but cheap and has everything you need there (gear for rental)
Decent snorkeling , but you have to swim out past the main area to see some cool stuff, make sure you can swim though, Summer time the south shore and east side has some swells. If you
can't swim that well in ocean water don't go out too far.

Beaches -
Waimea Bay  - An absolute must, water is clear as day out there.  Summer time is perfect for tourist, Waves are not big at all. During the winter the waves can reach over 40 feet.  Also, check out Waimea falls , small hike and right by this beach.  You have to stop by here.

Lanikai/Kailua Beach Park - Nice beach, take your chick there, she will love it.

Waikiki - Check it  out, don't spend all day here, wayyyy too many tourist.

Sandy Beach/ Makapupu - Caution - IF YOU CANNOT SWIM DO NOT JUMP IN THE WATER.  The shore break is intense, i grew up swimming in this water and the waves are ultra powerful.  There is an ambulance at the beach because people think they can swim but can't.  But its also i great place to smoke a joint and watch tourist get slammed into the shore.  You might even see a boob or too..Pretty funny...

Sunset - Unreal sunsets. plan to end your day here  The beach is amazing..

Hiking - Cheap and mostly free - Waimea Falls is good - listed above
Diamond Head hike is cheap and easy - Amazing Views at the top - This is something i definitely recommend to a first time visitor  that isn't looking travel far and easy access, cost 5 bucks to park
Someone mention stairway to heaven  - Unreal hike but not for a first time visitor who doesn't know where this is, you have to go through some backyards of people houses.. So for your first trip take it easy

Food -
Foodland poke and poke bowls - You have to eat fish when you are there, this is the absolute staple of hawaii food
Side Street Inn - 2 locations in town - This is where to locals go to eat, unreal food and a good price - full bar as well
Zippys - Local's Favorite all day. some spots open 24 hours, great after drinking food.
Shrimp Truck North Shore - My suggestion is one day hit the north shore - Waimea Bay, Waimea falls hike and a shrimp truck.  The drive is very scenic as well..I can get into more food details as you trip gets closer

Nightlife -
Chinatown - over the past few year , hawaii has been renovating china town.  Bars, restaurants, and culture into this area.  First Fridays is crackin - its like a block party they do first fridays of every month
D&B - Yes, Dave and Busters, on wednesday nights during the summer there is a line of 50 people to get in, get there early - from 10 to close its HALF OFF THE ENTIRE BAR. Steals...

I could go on and on, Let me know what areas you need more info and i got you braddah.

:pimp:
Good looking out
I think I may have found a cool hotel that's sorta nice but affordable
Called vive Waikiki I think
We just need a place to rest out heads
I screen shorted ur post and repped u
Good looking out
Any other hotels u can recommend they all expensive right now
Hoping flight prices go down a lil within the next few weeks
I'm a try and wait till a deal pops up then make my plans

Man...I want to go back to Hawaii. Enjoyed every second staying in Maui.

I love Foodland.

Germaine's or paradise cove?

OP ever make it out to Hawaii?

I went to Paradise Cove when I was out there last november, but I only went there because it was convenient (was staying in Ko Olina). Food was decent I guess. Show was just OK. I ended up leaving early cause I got bored.

side street inn is super overrated. zippys is another popular spot that's less than mediocre. do not eat at cholos - that's one of the worst mexican food spots on the island.
you want decent cheaper food spots? helenas and rainbows were mentioned and those are good. boots and kimos is not bad but unless you go when they open or do take-out, the wait isn't worth it. good spots close to waikiki are diamond head market and grill, pioneer saloon, koko head cafe and your kitchen off the top of my head. this island has some great ramen and pho spots if that's your thing.

forget hiking stairway to heaven unless you want to get up at 330am to beat the security guards. a portion recently caved in so security might be even tightener now. hike/walk diamond head, manoa falls, makapuu or lanikai if you wanna have some nice scenery without much of a struggle.

i've lived here all my life and have taken a few NT'ers around. pm me if you want my number and can text me if you're stuck for directions or choices while you're here.

dawg im blown at the idea of catching a DUI in Hawaii and living in NYC....i would be stressed out my mind having to travel for some stupid court dates...lol

Wouldn't recommend stairway to heaven for a tourist. I'd feel bad if you fell off the mountain and got stranded and or died. Just go to Mariners Ridge, amazing view with very little effort, it's basically just a 20 minute walk to the top.

Honestly if you and your girl trying to just lay out and get your smash on go to Lanai.

leonards is great. make sure you get some of the plain malasadas (no filling). other notables are liliha bakery cocoa puffs and snow puffies from paalaa kai bakery.

best shave ice is at this surf shop in kailua called aloha sunday - place is insane. shimazus and your kitchen are also at the top.

snow puffies >

shimazu store is the best in my opinion. another really good shave ice place in town is right next to pioneer cafe on monsarrat ave, not sure what its called but grab something to eat at pioneer then grab some shave ice outside.

In Maui our bests this trip were:
1) Leoda's
2) Shark Pit - get there early now, it is much more popular than the last time we were there.
3) Lahina Grill - fantastic meal there
4) If you need a break from fish, the pizza we had - Pizza Connection was solid, though cash only.

Bonus 0 Julia’s Best Banana Bread if you make it through the drive

agreed! shimazus has been at my top for years and it's still the best classic shave ice but aloha sunday has awesome natural flavors that you gotta try. monserrat shave ice is really good too.

I'll be in Oahu in June and Maui in Sept

Theres a place in Oahu with Japanese chicks that make Musubis, i forget what the place is called tho

imo best musubi spot is manabu on king street but they sell out quickly. iyasume is good too and they have a spot that's close to kicks hawaii/ ala moana shopping center.
best spam musubi on the island is a highly debatable subject but i hate the 7-11 ones. too greasy and they're not at room temp.

co sign Manabus, the salmon and the curry pilaf are both great.
there's also a small place in Waikiki across from Ross that has Japanese musubis and bentos.

I don't mess with spam so I don't know, but you can get spam musubis almost everywhere tho.

Also the beer garden at Shirokiya in Ala Moana is worth checking out during happy hour.

You can get pretty decent ramen there, recently they have had vendors come in from Japan and do pop ups.

Really good ramen check out yotekko ya, golden pork is good. So is santouku and agu. Lucky Belly is also good but more of a bar so the wait is going to be longer.

Anybody else?
I think paradise cove has the edge over Germaine's, but not by that much. Paradise cove has a lot extra activities for guest and the grounds are nicer than Germaine's, but I like the show at Germaine's a lot better than paradise. Food is about the same between the two.

I heard the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center is pretty good, but it's pretty much a whole day event and way on the other side of the island...
