Anyone picking up the Apple Watch?

watch tells you to stand up if you haven't moved in a long time. it can measure you're heart rate i believe. it has haptic feedback so in theory someone can communicate with you through that in a morse code like way. it's interesting but idk if its interesting enough to rationalize owning.

Communicate through Morse code?

Why don't you just speak to them?

because that would be too easy  idk someone mentioned that feature on tv. the haptic feedback really is just setting up the use of a haptic keyboard in the future.

From what I gather, let's say you'd like to get somebody's attention across a crowded room you could send a small vibration to that persons iwatch.
yeah that seems more like the use of that feature.

My roommate is a battery engineer at Apple and he has been wearing one for testing for the last month, my thoughts:

Cool things:

-Checking text messages from your wrist. Nothing revolutionary here. Just convenient in social settings. Personally hate it when I'm out with a group of friends and people pull out their phones to check texts. Here it's just a look at the wrist. If it's important and you need to respond, then whip out your phone.

-All the other stuff, health checks, reminders, etc, not all that cool IMO.

Meh things:

-Battery life, won't last more than a full day with constant use.

-Aesthetics. Not feeling the look. As a man, watches to me are like our jewelry. Your distinctive style should be represented by your watch. It's less utility and more personality IMO. With this watch, you look like every other Apple fan boy at the mall. No thanks, I'll keep my Hamilton with distressed leather bands, scratches, and battle wounds.  Again, I'm 30, so I could be coming from an old man's perspective here.

-Most of all, just excessive. Maybe I'm old, but the idea of people carrying out their laptops, iPads, phones, and watches is just too much. Excessively "connected." Doesn't seem necessary.

Hope you got one pair of kicks and a flip phone preaching this nonsense

I haven't bought a pair of 200 dollar kicks in 4 years.

I've had the same phone for going on 2 years. It's a smartphone. No, I'm not against people purchasing smartphones.

Nice try with the generalization tho

Clearly missed the point, I made no mention of a dollar amount. You buy things that you like instead of bare necessities, so what it makes different than someone buying something they like?

I think there is a big market for this for women that can leave their phone in their purse and be able to check messages and stuff from their watch.

For the fellas, I don't see the need for it because you still need to have the iPhone with you. I suppose it may be cool if you can just wear your watch at home and not carry your iPhone around your house, depending on how far the range of the connection extends.

If it gets good reviews and not over 400 USD, then I'll give it a shot.

you'll look just as lame though staring at your watch for extended periods of time.

i really dont see the point

I love gadgets and tech but cant justify getting an iwatch. Dont even care for it.
However I think apple will make smart watches popular and most of us will get one by the end of the year

"Look at d flick of the wrist."

Was gonna cop a FitBit but was waiting on this iWatch. If its meh ill prolly cop the FitBit.

I'm gonna communicate with people by smacking my meat on the watch. If they only knew.
