Who here generously does not listen to or cares for J. Cole

This is probably one of the few songs ive listened to from him more than once. That said, its basically a beta version of don't save her from project pat. Like project pat is saying don't save her in an angry "what the hell you thinking" kinda way. Coles is more like him whispering don't save her in your ear while he gives you a bro hug.
LMAO the reaching and justification just to hate on dude is disgusting... "Beta version of don't save her"?

Im not hating on dude, he's in his lane killing it with the sensitive rap and females are buying it. He could be up there at the top of mainstream rap with drake if he did more upbeat songs with harder beats. Upbeat singles with sensitive album songs is money

But no role modelz its basically a beta version of don't save her. Don't even listen to the song, go look up the lyrics and tell me its not.

I downloaded Cole and Kendrick's discographies and proceeded to throw all of it in the recycle bin after a few listens.
Kendrick is slightly less boring than Cole but not by much.
There's only 1 Kendrick song I kept (Hiiipower).
As for Cole, his entire discography is just audio Ambien to me.
Straight up snoozefest.

I think Cole is a pretty good rapper and has very good content, but from a production standpoint, nothing has ever truly grabbed me as something I really have to listen to over and over. i don't personally think he's boring, but I could see why people would think so. I haven't heard FHD yet, but a lot of his production just leaves something to be desired. He needs something that could liven him up. Honestly, this is my exact description of Lloyd Banks post-2009

I remember the praise he started getting on here when he bodied Wale on Beautiful Bliss, crazy how it all changes after a few years.

The cats who don't rock with Cole, is it because he's too relatable? I get when you listen to music, you want to escape your life and live vicariously through whatever it is you are listening to. I ask, because it seems ever person i know who doesn't like buddy's music and says he's boring; he's basically rapping their story. College graduate, that has to pay back loans, trying to find their place in this world...etc etc. The cats i know, who took a different path, love that *****'s music.

I would actually think his relatability is what draws people to him and his music.  His album came in at number one with strong sales and I believe is almost platinum now, so there is definitely a good amount of people still rocking with him.  I feel that when people can relate to an artist outside of the music, whether it be the way they look/dress, their upbringing, and things to that extent, the music almost comes second.  People will be less critical of the music because they like the individual behind it.  There's a number of artist's that fit this bill.

And for those saying "hate," who was hating?  I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but the word hate gets thrown around for anything.  Just because someone is critical of his music or simply doesn't like it, there haters?  No ,it doesn't work like that.  Everyone here pretty much gave him props for being a good rapper and having talent, his music just leaves something to be desired.

Oh man, reps everywhere, the things people WON'T say. This is the part where others tell you you're buggin.
I think you hit the nail on the head. There are those who use music the same way/ reason they go to the movie theatre: to escape. But when you start talking that real, it's too close for comfort.

I think that this is part of it, I mean he's not really a character, and at the end of the day all  rappers are entertainers and everyone listens to music to be entertained.

It has nothing to do with relatability I bet you there's a ton of people that think he's boring and listen to songs about weed when they smoke. It's because his execution isn't anything special and his production is lackluster.

 at you guys trying to get at people for your assumed reason why they don't like Cole. It's just because he isn't that good.

 That's why i asked the question, when he's brought up amongst ****** in the barbershop and ****, that's the main reason i heard.
I legit thought y'all loved Cole on here.

There's a big Cole fanbase on here but there's as many people that don't **** with him here either

Cole just under performs. He set the bar to high for himself with his early mix tapes and he'll (probably) never make an album as good.

Its apparent sometimes he mails it in on verses. There's no way he writes some of this stuff and legit thinks its hot. No way

Idk how anyone could listen to FHD and call Cole boring. And to say the production is boring.... Smh.

He is and it is though. If you like it more power to you but there's nothing that makes me want to go back to any of his projects and I give him a chance every time he drops something. It's average music and there's just too much good **** out there for me to make time for a rapper that is putting out bland work. I'd rather listen to the Migos than this dude.

So people don't listen to music if its too relatable??? Im pretty sure a bunch of stoner currensy fans would disagree with that statement.

Honestly aside from his boringness I think the biggest thing wrong with dude is that he cant be at the forefront of any lane he's in. Drakes ahead of dude in the sensitive rap lane, which is probably coles biggest lane. He cant pass Kendrick in the "conscious" rap lane. And even in the rapper/producer lane, Krit is light years ahead of him in both regards.

I fall for it every time and always end up asking the question.... To those that consider Cole "boring" or underwhelming, can you put it in context or comparison terms?

Like Cole is boring compared to Migos or Cole is boring compared to Future, Rae Sremmurd etc... I can see that for a younger audience.

But does Cole being "boring" mean Wiz, Wale, Big Sean, Schoolboy Q, ASAP Rocky, BoB, Tyga, all make better and more entertaining music to yall? All of them have a smaller fan base yet hardly ever get labeled as being boring for being the reason. Like nobody takes out time to discuss why they dont rock with their music lol.

I think in terms of his true peers his lane is defined and his music stands alone.

at the end of the day i really don't care what cole has to say about politics or society....

im not trying to be uplifted by high music and be woken up consciously...

i think people too much value into music other than it being just an entertainment mechanism...

conscious rappers and dudes who continuously try to make some sort of political statement in they raps...can miss me with the 'we are aware' persona because at the end of the day they still in the industry getting butt f'ed by the oppressor...

I'm not a big J Cole fan but I like and respect the message J Cole puts out. He can be boring but he has great substance is his music. And in this era of biting other dudes flows I can respect a dude who does his own thing and he's still selling a lot records.

I think this sums up my opinion on him too. I can tolerate Cole for maybe 3-4 songs before changing to someone else. Can't listen to an album of his front to back, FHD gets too weak at the end for me.

Love the message he puts out there, and I'm glad someone in the mainstream is doing what he does.

I'm the type dude that likes balance. I'll bump Migos for a hour then I'll bump FHD the next. Some times I wanna hear catchy hook and hard beats, sometimes I wanna hear I dude rap about some real stuff.

To me the production falls off after St. Tropez but the rapping is on point all the way through. I don't like the beat on Love Yourz but what he's saying is strong.

Cool dude.. Like some of his music.. Acknowledge he's talented...

Still havent heard his newest album or had any interest to
