6 years later.....500 days of summer...

This is one of my fav movies. Saw it when it first came out and thought Summer was cold for leaving him like that. Saw it again a month or so ago and had a totally new perspective. I guess life experience along with maturity helped.

He loved Summer and wore his heart on his sleeve. He wasn't sleeping around so he has nothing to regret.

He needed Summer to happen. It made him quit his job and become a beast to pursue his dream. That alone was worth the agony of the breakup. Autumn was the icing on the cake.

Well said.

I look at it as a learning experience for Tom, Tom let himself be vulnerable and showed his true feelings for Summer. This is something he should be thankful for - for allowing himself to give his all to someone, even if it didn't work out.I feel we all have our Summer and how we bounce back from them determines a lot about our character and future relationships.

The best part of the film for me was the end, a lot of people feel it's contrived but in my experience it always works out like that, as soon as your'e actually over someone and wish them genuine happiness you find someone who is a better match than the person you ached over.

Just rewatched this and agreed that my perspective changed from 2009 to now in 2015.

1.) You can't blame Summer at all. When it came down to it, it was Tom's fault, but that's alright as long as he learned.

2.) He had to take the L. I'm glad they didn't show who Summer's husband. It really didn't matter at all.

3.) I sincerely think every guy needs to go through one soul-crushing heartbreak to really evolve into his best self.

4.) The worst thing he could've done was continue to take the L and wallow away in misery.

5.) In the end, he became better. He got new (better) yambs + confidence (you see that DGAF walk and Autumn getting wet?) + stronger life purpose/outlook.

This is a film that deserves all its accolades because it's the reality of what every guy is going through, has gone through, or will go through.

Tom was boring. Summer was a free spirit. The two would have never lasted. Tom thought he could make her grow to love him, he was wrong. Then she found the one that had the IT factor and it all fell into place. Nobody was wrong I'm that movie. They was just wrong for each other... long term. Some relationships are meant to be learning experiences.

Dude was Ted from how I met your mother
Agreed. When I watch HIMYM again, I realize how stupid Ted was throughout. At least he got some fine yambs.

And the girl/mother he ended up with was perfect for him. The ending made sense with Robin ending up alone + Ted slaying 50yr Robin yambs.

I think I post this every year after watching it, and even though it's irrational because of the circumstances, I always feel bad for my dude, JGL. Love the soundtrack though.

6 years later I still hate that sloot

ITS NOT REALITY VS PERCEPTION.

its reality vs. expectations.

yall killing the best vignette of the movie smh

The OG DBNT famb weighing in on a classic :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:

I have no plans for tonight so I'm about to throw this on to remind myself to keep it real with these ****** so I don't end up like Tom.

Gonna have to rewatch it tonight, 6 years later. My thoughts about her then was she was a trick that did my mans Tom dirty.

Man, I love movies like these. Couple of these sappy joints got me re evaluating things differently after you just have life experience.

It wasn't Summer's fault either. She wanted just to go with the flow at the beginning but felt for her husband. It's like I can say I want a clean cut girl on paper but may fall for a girl covered in tattoos. Can't really analyze feelings.

I may watch it again tonight before getting turnt up  If I get teary eyed, hoping DS2 can counter that in the car.

NT reply: Tom won. If he was to stay with Summer then he wouldn't have quit his day job and settled for mediocrity. He put everything on the line and quit before he ever had a job lined up so he can study those books. It's hard switching fields. A couple years will go by and he will have a prosperous architect firm while Summer will be divorced and saddened. She's going to run into Tom one day at a local coffee house while Tom is on the way to work stunting in a Rolls Royce :pimp:

I was in a terrible relationship/verge of ending(which soon ended) when I saw this movie, what made it worse was I watched blue valentine shortly after I saw this but it brings back memories thinking of it or hearing of it. I liked the movie though and my only comment on the film, was at least he smashed. If he didn't dude would have been beta as hell, although he fell too hard which happens to the best of us. :rolleyes

I'll say you can blame her, because while she did make her intent clear, she dragged it on for as long as she did and wasted his time in the process. Yeah, he came out a better person in the end, but her inability to communicate effectively made him lose the most valuable commodity you have; time.

At least broad ain't ole girl from gone girl.. Or Jenny from forest gump.. Or ginger from casino

Those broads I hate.. I judge the hell out of women whenever I see any of those movies..

Like literally I use those movies and sex and the city to find out what women really think about shhhhhhh.. Like casually just bring up those movies and ask women what they think.. Or if you really wanna know what type of chick you're dealing with ask her which character she is from sex and the city

I mildly disliked summer.. Home boy kinda brought it on himself.. But summer could still go eat a nickname for richard

Agreed. Coupled with the fact that these films have female characters who contribute to the downfall of guys + them taking Ls everywhere.

Bruhhh saw these two movies as well shortly after the best/worst relationship i've had - I was a mess. Lmao i'm glad i can look back and laugh now. Grateful for these flicks man, helped me accept the brutal reality that is life

Six years ago, I was ride or die Team Tom. You couldn't tell me nothing. After re-watching it last night at a more mature point in my life, I've softened that stance. One scene that kind of summed up my feelings was when he was on the blind date with the red head and she said "So she didn't cheat on you....she didn't do you wrong....and she made her intentions clear in the beginning? I don't see the problem..." While that viewpoint is too black and white, I think it sums up the situation. He needed to keep his guard up from the beginning and have little to no expectations.

I just started seeing this girl who recently got out of a long term relationship and we had a talk where she said she didn't want pressure on what we are or aren't doing and we agreed to just see where things go. This movie reminded me that I need to tread lightly.

Thanks for reminding me about this movie NT and keeping me woke and stopping from potentially getting got.
