I'll make this quick guys.
*Had my normal tax specialist e-file my taxes this year as soon as I got my W2 in late January
*He informed me (after receiving a notification from Intuit) that someone filed my taxes on 01/15/15 and the IRS rejected it saying that someone with my social/TIN already filed.
*Filled out this form 14039 after doing some research on IRS.Gov and submitted it with my paper return for federal and state.
*Check my credit score regularly and everything's good on that front but just to be safe I added a credit freeze with Experian, Equifax, Transunion (cost about $13 total)
1.) Has this happened to any of you guys before or anyone you know?
2.) How did it work out? How long did the process take?
3.) I HIGHLY recommend you guys request a PIN from the IRS for e-filing as a precaution, I also recommend adding a credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus. It's inexpensive ($3 each bureau) and it can save you the headache in the future.
After talking with coworkers and friends/family about this I found that a few of them had dealt with similar circumstances. (Someone opened up multiple cell phone lines with their social, someone ran up credit card charges under their name, one girl I know even had an old college roommate get multiple apartments and car rentals in her name pulling a straight kamikaze on her credit.)
Just wanted to get any insight and also warn that this identity theft stuff is real and can happen to anyone.
