Apartment rental increases - school me on how this works...

The rental agreement says if I want to move out, I need to give a 60 day notice. It also says if they notify me of new rates 65 days before the lease ends, they will automatically renew the lease at the new price.

This gives me 5 days to decide whether or not I will take the offer.

My question is, if my lease expires on May 30th, what happens if they wait until April to give me a notice stating my rent will increase?

Obviously they cannot enforce this increase automatically without my signature as per the rental agreement but it also does not give me the opportunity to give a 60 day move out notification as my 60 days will have expired by April 1st.

Is this normal? Its not worth moving if the increase is minimal but I don't want to be slapped with a huge increase and then get charged for failing to give 60 days notice.

Any advice is appreciated.
