Using own startup capital or using outside investors?

Am I the only one in here that actually works at a startup?

It's the life. Hours can be long, but I love it.

i worked at a startup in 2008. company was into online gaming on fb/phones. the iphone had just came out but this company was making gms other phones
ridiculous how much money they blew, crazy how we got a couple series of funding (50M)
fun times, but me and a couple co-workers always wondered if it was gonna last. pretty cool to be in that type of atmosphere/environment

did they last?

The atmosphere is super crazy.

I was at a bar in SF and this dude basically begged me for a job at my company... In the bathroom. That was awkward and weird.

Startups usually don't pay as well as larger companies though

If ur not making 80k at a startup in SF ur doing it ALL wrong. Think our lowest paid made $48 an hour.

Majority of startups aren't even well funded to pay like that.  I live in SF and know plenty of ppl that work at startups and make 50-60k.  These are non technical roles.  If you're talking about technical roles like developers, ux/ui designers, data scientists, product managers etc. than those are around 100k or above

I just left SF 3 weeks ago.

I'm not in a tech role. Every single one of my boys up here technical role or not are above 80k, and some are at no name startups.

Every role I interviewed for was at least 40 an hr.

You're not getting 80k for a non technical role if it's entry level position.  It'd have to be at least a managerial level position.  You can go on glass door.com and see that.

Who said anything about entry level? I was the "manager".

Well in a comparable managerial position a larger company would pay more than a startup.  Same difference

Disagree.

I was at the same position for a worldwide brand and made less.

And lawlz at glassdoor for a startup. We aren't on there.

It's not up for debate, you're kidding yourself if you think a tech startup is going to pay more than Google or Facebook.  They offer more equity when poaching talent away from the big boys but no way do they pay more.  All the top startups are on glass door

Just stop. Where did I bring up Google or anyone like that lmao.

My startup is not on Glassdoor and I was making very good money.

All u said was at a larger corporation... Bringing up Google and Fbook get outta here with that lmaooooo.

Dude keep coming back quoting dame dash but dame would laugh in his face. U worked a job saved up then started your businesses, that goes against what he was saying. U quoting a man that doesn't respect u bro. @FlyNY tell him what type of man quotes another man who doesn't respect him...

Google, Facebook, Apple, Oracle, SAP, do we need to go on?  These are the larger tech companies in Silicon Valley in the same industry as these tech startups so I don't know what you're trying to say.  It's simple concept that most startups aren't well funded enough to compensate on the same level as the larger tech companies.

I wasn't talking about those at all lmao. My old position was at a company that is known worldwide and I made less there... All I said, and it's a fact... A lot of NTers can vouch for that.

Cheer up lil fella. If u need a job, let me know. I need someone to clean my desk. Start you off at 25 an hr aka what we give our interns.

bro hes right though, startups pay less and some pay almost close to nothing because they need all the financial freedom and cash flow they can get.

I make more at my startup than I did anywhere else and all my friends do. Those are facts.

We pay 25/hr for our interns.

He doesn't know what he's talking about and at best has some anecdotal evidence with "his boys" which we don't even know if it's true or not since he hasn't even mentioned any specific startups or positions etc.

Marketing and community manager. How many nters have visited me/ know me in real life and can vouch for me? Lmao.

Not gunna tell u what company I'm at, we are a team of 12.

I offered u a job, since u seem to need it!

Even if all of that is true you know how small of a sample size you and your "friends" are.  Learn the difference between anecdotal and empirical.  And I'm doing fine at a large company lol people that resort to immature personal comments

You keep saying "large companies". That doesn't make them tech.

I was at a "large company" under the same position and made less. Idk how many times I need to say that, nor know why u are arguing about that.
