BMW = Most Superfluous Car Line-Up? BMW Car Thread - 8Series Revealed

Audi is the same

Lemme tell yall sumtin

If u buy a german luxury whip that costs 60 grand be prepard to pay for parts and service that is relative to the price of the car

If u buy an accord for 25k expect to pay for parts and service relative to the price of an accord.

German cars are cool but they are not built to last like japanese cars. Most japanese cars are built as economical options so they are designed to withstand the test of time. If u want luxury and long lasting cop a lexus

Audi is leading the pack right now hands down. Anyhow, did Al Audi ever cop his A3??

I have an Audi, and I'm on the verge of trading it in for another Audi. But out of the three leading the pack it's Mercedes.

A45AMG>*
CLA45AMG>*
C 6 series and A7
S-Class>*
S-Coupe>*
G>*
SL>*
SLK=Z4
M4>C63>RS5

The only model were Audi kills to the other 2 is the R8.

I mostly agree with your list, outside of the CLS > A7

A7 is a masterpiece. My gawd I love that car.

The a7 Is dope

Just wish they made a two door version

It already has the shape .....

OP is right. But that goes for half of the car industry. Audi has the most boring body designs.

True but MB and Audi didn't create a separate line for their compact coupe (4-series) to differ it from the compact sedan (3-series) and then make a compact sedan (4-series gran coupe) within that line anyways. Then that sedan in the coupe line with a 4-door fastback/hatch trunk (4-series gran coupe) already exist in the sedan line (3-series gran turismo) not to mention the 5-Series also has a gran turismo and there is a 3-Series Sport Wagon too. Then raise up the the 3-Series & 5-Series Gran Turismo and 4-Series Gran Coupe and you get a rather similar X4 and X6.

MB and Audi doesn't even have a 2-Series, X4 or X6 equivalent (not even sure you can pit the R8 and AMG GTS with the i8).

I think that is where it becomes a bit redundant. It's like they are trying to target every single market out there no matter how small and unnecessary some may be. Now don't get me wrong, I know BMW wants to be the best selling luxury brand out there and I believe they held that title last year or 2 years back but just seems a bit much?

I mean have you seen how many different 7-series versions they have?

Granted some of those has very few to little changes but it's different enough that they sell them as such and that is only on sedans (really surprised they haven't made a 7 coupe yet but they do have a concept for it  ). Benz has for the S-Class has S550, S600, S63 and S63 4matic (double that up if you include the coupe) and Audi has an A8, S8, A8 L and A8 L W12.

Real talk, I've never seen the fascination with BMWs. I've driven a couple at my valet job and while some like the M3 were cool, most of them were very bland.

My next car will be a Subaru, Lexus or Acura. I drive a 05 Camry right now and while it has been very good to me, its not getting any younger

My biggest question is how BMW will remain profitable with all these different models? Obviously their 3,5,7 and x5 are their bread and butter. But with all these different models, they must stock up on a lot of extra inventory on parts and stuff. I don't suppose these different models are flying off the shelf unless they're just being made to order

I've been back and forth with the thought of getting an Audi S3, but whenever threads pop up on NT talking about German time bombs, I feel I'm pulled back into buying something better for my money.

It's hard to decide when deciding between a 2015 WRX (maybe STI), 2015 Evo, or a 2015 Audi S3. These three cars just seem all too similar. I want the S3, but the thought of it being a pain to maintain and it's questionable reliability are keeping me from pulling the trigger.

Anyone have experience with these 3 whips before? And what's your opinion?

To be honest, if you aren't going to drive these cars too hard then I think it will be fine. Even the WRX and Evo can break down just as much as the S3 but S3 being a luxury car it just comes with everything more expensive.

Take it with a grain of salt but JD Power has Audi ranked higher than Mitsubishi and Subaru in dependability ranking though this is only within the first 12 months of ownership.

You happen to have stats for the long term, bro? I actually plan on keeping the car for way more than a year. :nerd:

No Subie or Audi owners that can chime in as well?

-Drew

Actually my fault, that is the long-term reliability survey:

The Vehicle Dependability Study examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year-old (2012 model year) vehicles.

The Initial Quality Study is the short-term one (first 90 days) but in this one, Audi is actually way up while Subaru and Mitsubishi are way in the bottom.

are they pretty reliable?

Are they...man Audi has my heart forever after I drove my A6 from Jersey to Houston, Texas while the storm was coming down on the east coast. No hiccups, got an oil change and service like 16hours in the drive. As far as luxury to reliability Audi has to be up there.

I agree with this post

If anyone plans on buying a BMW, don't cheap yourself out of the extended warranty. I bought a "certified" used 2008 BMW 335i hard top convertible w/ 60k miles from Morgan Hill Ford a few years ago for $24k and paid another $5k for the extended factory warranty. Thank God I did that because warranty ended up covering over $30K worth of parts and labor. On different occasions I had a leaking headgasket, replaced A/C compresser, and the biggest one at 92K Miles, a blown engine. Warranty covered the replacement of a brand new motor and twin turbos, all work was done by BMW of Fremont and the warranty shelled out almost $22k for all the parts and labor on that job. I personally think its a beautiful car, fun to drive, and the drop top is convenient especially here in the bay area. If I could go back in time, I would've stuck with my 2001 corvette.
