BMW = Most Superfluous Car Line-Up? BMW Car Thread - 8Series Revealed

1. DON'T take the car to the dealer for fixes or maintenance unless its under warranty still.

2. Once its out of warranty, find a good indy shop near you that has a good rep. If they quote you something outrageous, ask for an invoice for what you need, buy the parts yourself (almost always can be had for cheaper) then negotiate on labor cost.
.

this right here is KEY.... i have a guy who used to wk for audi & he charges me straight labor & i buy parts

I actually wasn't expecting the responses in this thread.

I've always thought that BMWs were NT's car of choice and would choose it no matter what.

I'd cop a struggle bimmer over a fully loaded toyota any day tho.
140k miles later you gonna be walking
Brakes on my E90 just ran me 400 for all 4 corners (pads and rotors). Granted that's 200 or so more (just counting parts) than it would cost on a Camry, but its not as outrageous as you guys make it seem. Of course certain parts will run more but if you complain like that, then its not the car for you to begin with.

Owning a bimmer and keeping it within budget is easy...

3. And of course, learn how to do easy stuff yourself. Changing oil and doing tuneups aren't incredibly hard on a bimmer. I did mine in 20 mins.
Trippin b 200 for brakes for a camry?
What about services especially the 100k one.
parts and labor are expensive as hell . If you dont work on them your selfs better just lease them. Bmw are just for badgeflossers

As a lifelong BMW fan & owner, currently on my 4th model...I'm not a fan of most of the new BMW's and their styling. I feel like the brand keeps getting further and further away from classic designs. I get trying to push the envelope and all but come on. And whoever mentioned the Chevy comment about BMW trying to become them, is spot on. The brand is being saturated with all of these clone models with different rears, enough is enough y0. MB is doing the same thing actually. Wayyyyy too many models and too little substance.

Need to bring it back to the heyday when BMW owned them streets with their design philosophy...

Do the newer Bimmers last longer? Or do they still come with high maintenance bills?

You would think that by 2015, BMW would have all of the defects and flaws corrected so that their cars would have better longevity like their Japanese & American competitors :smh:

I do believe newer ones last longer and better built. Still not as reliable as their Japanese counter parts but they aren't breaking down left and right.

Maintenance bills are still high, it is still a luxury car in the end, cost will be higher from service to parts to labor. There just isn't any other way around it.

I'd say they are on par with the American competitors these days and it wasn't too long ago when American cars were notorious for break downs even before the warranty was even out.

Audi is leading the pack right now hands down. Anyhow, did Al Audi ever cop his A3??

I have an Audi, and I'm on the verge of trading it in for another Audi. But out of the three leading the pack it's Mercedes.

A45AMG>*
CLA45AMG>*
C 6 series and A7
S-Class>*
S-Coupe>*
G>*
SL>*
SLK=Z4
M4>C63>RS5

The only model were Audi kills to the other 2 is the R8.

New c63 has beaten the new m3 in every single review online so far though

And when the coupe drops, it'll beat the m4 too

I like the audis for looks, but they're all underpowered compared to the competition. I'd say Mercedes has some of the softest looking cars of the three, but I don't know which ones look better between bmw and Audi.

Audi was my number 1 for awhile, but nothing says "50 year old man 401k money dude that just flew back from Capetown" like riding around in the benz.
I think they are splintered age brackets now with BMW being for the youngest money getters and audi being for the more settled crowd. My VW GTI is like a baby Audi in my eyes and I'm loving it but it'll probably get traded when the warrantee is up. I'm just not about that German time bomb maintenance.

My stepdad had an M3 and an X5 and let me tell you both of those cars spent more time in the shop than actually being driven. No thanks.

Whoever is the head of product design is just getting by. The only cars they need in their line up are the 3, 5, & 7 series sedans, M3 & M5, 5 series wagon, M6, X5, the new i8, and a supercar, maybe a newer version of the 840. Anything more than that would be too much

While I defended ownership of a bimmer earlier, I definitely agree with y'all on this.

They had the perfect rotation when it was the 1 (compact coupe), the 3 (mid-size sedan/coupe), 5 (full size sedan), 6 (touring coupe), 7(executive sedan) and the X3/5/6 models.

I personally think the 4 series sedans look like trash compared to the coupe version. If it has a sloping roof-line, it doesn't need those extra doors. Audi pulls it off because the proportion of the trunk is where it would be if the car was actually a coupe.
