Actually my fault, that is the long-term reliability survey:
The Initial Quality Study is the short-term one (first 90 days) but in this one, Audi is actually way up while Subaru and Mitsubishi are way in the bottom.

The Vehicle Dependability Study examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year-old (2012 model year) vehicles.

What counts as a problem? How do they get these numbers?

Taken from the Initial Quality Study (IQS), which looks at owner-reported problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership, this score is based on problems that have caused a complete breakdown or malfunction, or where controls or features may work as designed, but are difficult to use or understand.

Given the knowledge you know, do you usually tell those close to you to go Japanese instead, by any chance?

Always been a fan of the Japanese cars since thats what I grew up with.  I still own a bugeye wrx and a 97 Supra and I just added an Audi A7.  As far as lexus and acura though to be honest I think they are reliable but driving and comfort wise they dont come close to a german engineering car.

For my friends that keep their cars a long time I say go with japanese cars.  For short time owners you gotta go German.

We just sold our first 2015 Golf R yesterday.  Nice car but for 40k your in Audi S3 territory.  It also only comes in DSG right now and a weird looking purple color that they claim is blue.  They are very fun to drive though.  Imagine an STi type feel but with a way better interior and doesnt feel as cheap.

Im in a VW Jetta, probably going to upgrade to a newer VW or Audi after college. Just have to budget for maintenance if it's not CPO.

German cars = preventative maintenance machines. But having a good indy mechanic is :pimp:

Had my gti since new in 2011, been a pretty good vehicle minus a couple issues that were covered under warranty. However, I've had a couple other VWs and know I'm not keeping it out of warranty, so I'm shopping for a new vehicle. Almost traded it in on a Golf R last week but they aren't willing to sell below MSRP since they are so "limited," so I walked.

Been looking at MB, BMW, Lexus, Audi and a couple others, but nothing really jumps out at me. I've always loved Audi but it won't be any more reliable than my gti and it will be more expensive to fix. Honestly, think I'm just going to pick up a new or CPO Toyota 4Runner or something similar that will last me a long time and will do well in the winter, hauling stuff, etc. Then I can pick up a fun car in another couple years.

i got a 09 TSX and it hasn't given me any problems. Bought it the first year it came out.

I really suggest most of you guys test drive the new RC350 or at least check it out in person. Actually I'd suggest you just check out all the competitors in the market/genre of vehicle you are looking at before buying but Lexus and Cadillac are really trying to move away from the old-man image.

The RC-F has really caught my eye. Someone close to me has already ordered theirs, and it only arrives in June. I just want to drive it myself first before I get too excited. From the reviews, they say you can really feel the extra weight and it doesn't feel nimble enough. But the idea of a new exhaust from the likes of Armytrix/Innotech (cause the stock ones I've heard sound boring) on that V8 really have me interested to see the RC-F.

To be honest most of these guys that do reviews of the rc f are acting like its a track car.

The car was designed to drive everyday reliably and make good power.

It will be more than enouhh to handle in everyday driving situations.

And that's exactly why I would prefer to go and test drive it myself when it arrives at my local dealer.

It's all well and dandy trying to go sideways around a track complaining that the car is too heavy, but that's not something I'll be doing on way to meetings/drinks/gym etc

I think it'll be a great car to drive, I just want to feel it out for myself first.

I just got a 2012 GTI last month.

My warranty is 5 years up to the 85k mark.

Can I ask what stuff popped up on you and at what mileage?

I lease a Chevy Equinox but I'm saving up for my big purchase next. I like the Equinox... I'm a snowboarder and it's a good size for gear and a couple buddies... I can also have my subwoofer in the back which is pretty big... 306 Horse power v6 feels nice too...

However, I'm getting old and I want to drive something nicer than a Chevy when I reach 30...

I've been thinking about the audi Q5, but now the Porsche Macan has been released and it's getting great reviews:

All the review's I've seen say i'ts best in class and I think it's pretty sexy.

I'm thinking it'll be this or the next gen SRX (if it's good)

EDIT:

Since the thread is about BMWs and I'm contributing my preference of SUV/CUVs, check this out @ BMW X-Drive:
