Once it's out of warranty that BMW will bankrupt you, front brakes for a X5 is $2,500, even for a 3 or 4 series it'll be like $700-800.  You lease and don't have to worry about the high service/repair fees.  I mean most dealerships will be happy to break even on selling the actual cars, they make all their money from selling parts and doing the servicing.

go with audi..

I own and drive a benz (granted an old one).. my mother owns a benz.. my girl owns the audi Q5

having driven all 3 (Mercedes, BMW and Audi).. I'd EASILY recommend getting a audi or bmw over a mercedes
FAX B

4 rings all day
Enlighten me please, thinking of upgrading my e90 to a4 or s4

my 96 a6 got me over 250K
my 99 a6 had 3-4 year's left in it but got totaled by an idiot cop & the car's build legit saved my life

but i wouldnt mess with the a4 unless you are smaller/short cuz its a lil tight for me(6'1)

im in IL so 4-wheel drive is damn near mandatory on a car with these ignant winters & ive never had a bad winter in a audi

40k car loan would normally be around 500 to 1200 depending on down payment and interest rate.

my dad just dumped 5k into his X5 out of warranty

THAT WASNT EVEN A BMW DEALERSHIP EITHER

woulda been more

yea its not like its the early 2000s where bluetooth and stuff were not common in cars. Entry level cars pretty much come with all the technology you need. Unless you live in a city with a lot of open roads and no traffic, you dont even really get to "drive" your car like it should be driven.

Yeah a service invoice at bmw dealership can easily get into the 5 figures for a X5.  Leasing is the way to go

I'm a 6M convertible owner, it a fun car to drive. I only take it out when the sun is shining so I can drop the top, its an expensive car but if you can afford it then do what you please with your money as I did. The 3-5 do look very similar, just some are longer than the others, and the 2 series should be strictly for females. If there was a 7 series in convertible form, I would go for one of those also.

I see a lot of folks in BMWs. Services cost that much? Damn I went right and got me a Toyota. I was looking into the 4 series but changed my mind cause I heard of all these horror stories

Everyone has bmws but at least 80% of those are leases

I've noticed this a lot and I think it's just the German way of doing things, Mercedes, audi, btw and even addias has this train of thought were they stick to on general design and tweak a bit and call it something else. Tell me I'm lying

Brakes on my E90 just ran me 400 for all 4 corners (pads and rotors). Granted that's 200 or so more (just counting parts) than it would cost on a Camry, but its not as outrageous as you guys make it seem. Of course certain parts will run more but if you complain like that, then its not the car for you to begin with.

Owning a bimmer and keeping it within budget is easy...

1. DON'T take the car to the dealer for fixes or maintenance unless its under warranty still.

2. Once its out of warranty, find a good indy shop near you that has a good rep. If they quote you something outrageous, ask for an invoice for what you need, buy the parts yourself (almost always can be had for cheaper) then negotiate on labor cost.

3. And of course, learn how to do easy stuff yourself. Changing oil and doing tuneups aren't incredibly hard on a bimmer. I did mine in 20 mins.

Do the newer Bimmers last longer? Or do they still come with high maintenance bills?

You would think that by 2015, BMW would have all of the defects and flaws corrected so that their cars would have better longevity like their Japanese & American competitors :smh:
