Thoughts on the Scarface Remake??? Vol. Balls & My Word

Scarface is overrated as hell.

NEVER, and I mean NEVER touch Casino or Goodfellas. Leave those alone.

People hating on a remake of a remake ain't **** sacred about scarface 83.

I dig the idea of being a movie thays retold every few decades or so. First Italian immigrant, Cuban exile now a mexican cat running LA. I'm in

Nah they need a Salvadorean cat :smokin

I get that scarface is a remake from the thirties but if they waited 50 years to remake it the first time they should waited another 20 years to make this one.. If Franks pulling up in a self driving car to the babylon club i'd have a lot easier time digesting it.

Even though they're going a different route story wise I think they could have gave it it's own title instead of using the scarface name to get extra $$$
I just can't support a remake when I'm still walking around going
"Chu got de money mayne? Chu got de stuff"
or... "You need me so you can point your fingers and say dats da bad bad guy"
or "Chu callin me a liar mayne"
or "she's a tiger"

I use quotables from that movie on at least a weekly basis.. It doesn't need a remake. Overrated or not.

On the real,

A movie needs to be made on 80s-90s NY crack era

Base it on all the drug teams of NY, and all the big kingpins...supreme, pappy mason, fat cat etc

Do what they did with Frank Lucas in American Gangster...Have Denzel play Supreme. The streets need that, B

Yes, why hasn't Hollywood tackled this yet?

paid in full b. goat cinema pop

I don't mind this at all.

Scarface was never THAT good to begin with. I hope this remake is better, improves on the bad parts of the OG, and is more concise.

Most of Scorsese's movies should be left alone. Period.

Hollywood isnt that stupid. You won't see them trying to remake stuff like that or Color Purple or things of that nature. Those movies are legit masterpieces, there is no reason to try again, people will always watch and admire those films. You'd never see a remake of Pulp Fiction or Gravity.

It's not a Hollywood in general sort of thing. Those ppl who made it won't let those types of movies be remade.

When you see some of these other movies get remakes it's really about who owns them and how much more money they want.

just out of curiosity, what were the bad parts? and how could it be more concise?

Scarface is quite possibly the most overrated movie ever.... I can appreciate the rags to riches aspect, but the storytelling itself is atrocious. I really think most people say they like just because they think it's the cool thing to say or something.

Acting from everyone in he film is mediocre.

Pacinos fake Cuban accent was absolutely terrible.

The dialogue is extremely poorly written, with virtually no realistic person to person interaction.

There is very little character development. As Tony moves up from nothing to becoming the Kingpin, he still remains the same egotistical cartoon of a person the entire film.. There is even less backstory and development for everyone else in the movie. There are huge gaps and they dont even bother to explain how his wife goes from hating him to being married to him.

It's full of cheesy one liners that sound like their straight out of a campy Schwarzenegger film.

....And don't even get me started on that got damn synthesized sound effect whenever they do a closeup shot of Tony feeling some kind of way... Its literally like something straight out of a terrible b-grade monster movie. Like wtf ? Absolutely comical.

I understand many of you may like the movie.... hell.... overrated as it is, I still like the movie.... but liking a movie and a movie being well written, filmed and acted are completely different things. Scarface is none of the latter and before you say "it ws the 80s"... My critique has nothing to do with the time period it was made. The Godfather was made over 10 years before Scarface and manages to blow it out of the water in every category from the writing, to the acting, to the cinematography. Michael Corleone was a well written character and Pacinos performance in The Godfather was great, his performance as Tony in Scarface is so bad it's bordering on the verge of comedy.
