DOPE Starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Zoe Kravitz, Blake Anderson, Keith Stan

i don't know what I'm seeing here...is this maybe a coming of age tale ?

A coming of age comedy/drama for the post hip hop generation. Malcolm is a geek, carefully surviving life in The Bottoms, a tough neighborhood in Inglewood, CA filled gangsters and drugs dealers, while juggling his senior year of college applications, interviews and the SAT. His dream is to attend Harvard. A chance invitation to a big underground party leads Malcolm and his friends into a, only in Los Angeles, gritty adventure filed with offbeat characters and bad choices. If Malcolm can persevere, he'll go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

All the broads in this movie A1, story definitely looks like it's gonna have holes tho

Not to sound "Get Off My Lawn'ish", but I'm totally lost as to how this new generation feels like they're justifiable in their whole high-jacking of generation X's contributions to fashion which were a direct result of their experiences. It's like they have no shame not having an identity.

...A.S.A.P. Rocky and Tyga should be ashamed of themselves. They're 26 years old, they're like REAL adults acting like post-adolescents.

Fashion trends and styles are cyclical in many cases.  It is expected that the styles of the past, including that of early hip hop culture, extending to high tops to dashikis to the wears of Black Nationalists etc, very particular in their nature and grounded in the experiences of the time, will re-emerge in the style or flavor of current or future generations.

Fashion and garb which conjure political imagery or symbolic/social connotation need to be acknowledged for their layered context, otherwise the line between cultural exchange gets blurred with that of straight up cultural appropriation.  In the case of this movie, you are being shown an individual clique of nerds who dress in retro style and immerse themselves in 90s hip hop and the styles and attitudes which come with it.  Hardly reads as straight up "highjacking generation X's contributions to fashion."  I get your need for distinction, but doesn't seem all that applicable here.

Not sure where Rocky or Tyga are at fault either, at least not as it pertains to what we've seen of this movie.

Gives me a Dear White People kinda vibe. I like it.

And the main character's fits :wow: :pimp:

Much much much better than Dear White people....

It's crazy how narrow minded people can be over the simplest things....Tyga is in the movie for maybe 3 mins tops...ASAP Rocky maybe 12 mins.

If you liked The Wood you'll like this movie it's essentially the 2015 version.

It's worth the watch in Theaters and I don't go to the movies like that. I'd watch again in the Theater.

This is just a movie, but...Damn. This new generation is so lost. No culture at all.

You got all this from a trailer, bruh?

I saw DOPE. Its a great movie. Like executive76 executive76 said, its essebtially the 2015 version of The Wood. (Shout out to Stacy  ). Its a true to life coming of age film that is funny, but also has deep moments and a valuable lesson at the end.

Its not over done. Its not begging to prove how black it is with super stereotypical lines. Tyga and Rocky say a total of maybe 50 words combined. They're just there as celebrity cameos. Just an all around good film wih a solid cast of newcomers.

Definitely going to buy it when its released on bluray.

Is there gonna be any nudity in this movie?

It's a couple of stars in that flick I wouldn't mind seeing nude

That's exactly what it looks like and exactly what I want (Just watched the Wood a few weeks ago too lol Stacy beat Mike's *** for touching that *** :smokin ) Might see it this weekend.
