Anyone here planning to retire before 40 like these people?

Must be happy with eating ramen and chilling in the house for the next 40 years of their life. Can't travel or enjoy life with 1M and no income for the next 35-40 years assuming they live to 75-80.

Edit: Like i said they are living extremely frugal and the husband made it up to 140K salary, but for only 3 years wife only made. There are also lot of holes in that article also.

Retire when I'm 40? Nahh I'm going to keep grinding and set new goals. Once I hit a milli I'll shoot for 2 then 3 and so on. People shouldn't limit themselves or get comfortable.

Me and dude are in the same field with different disciplines.

If I can get that Microsoft 140k swagteam supreme money I wont retire till im in my 60's making even more than that.

As I business owner who has pretty much all the free time in the world, I can't picture myself wanting to "retire".

I could see myself switching fields to something I'm more passionate about, even if it meant taking a huge pay cut....but I'd have to be pretty rich to entertain that idea.

What's the point of more millions when it'll take up all your years and then you'll be at the age where it wouldn't matter anymore

Just going to be sitting at home, hitting up Madden-aye movies, and fading lubys for the next 40 years.

Never mind if someone gets sick...

You can retire at 40 but why? That's when a man is at his finest...

Super smart, still can pass for a 30 year old if in decent shape, and probably on track to some major things

Interest rates tick it 1%, all hell would break loose with their money

Retiring early is overrated.

And $1M is not enough to retire famb.

Especially at 40
They are very frugal and only spend $40k/year.

Kudos to them for sustaining that lifestyle. They may be singing a different tune when they have kids.

It only takes up all your years If you don't spend your money wisely and invest it in the right places. You could make your money work for you and spend it in real estate for example.

60 seems a more approcatie age for me. Also that doesn't mean I'll stop working, I truly want to spend my last quarter of my life teaching and spending time with my grand children

i plan on being rich by 40----dont care how sinister the route i take to get there is.

I love traveling but don't plan on early retirement. Some of us enjoy work, the daily grind and having a set everyday schedule. Productivity and purpose.

1M is not enough to retire lol yal the same type of people that think 100K makes you rich.

1 million not enough to retire? What the? If I have a million right now... I can live off that investment income solely. A conservative 5% rate of return nets you 50K which is plenty enough (FOR ME) to live somewhat comfortable. I don't get it... do you really think average Americans' net assets at age 50, 60, 70, are worth over 1 million? A good majority of Americans at the retirement age have zero retirement investments and solely depending on Social Security and Medicare.

You have to live pretty frugal in those years in order to do this. That is where I think majority won't succeed. We want instant gratification right now whether it be materials things, experiences, travel, etc. I think the idea to save now and enjoy later is just to hard to fathom for most.

Retire before 40? Impossible for me unless I hit the Lotto or something. If I had my house paid off, I would be balling right now.

Key words ! When I retire I don't want to be somewhat comfortable I will be completely comfortable. I couldn't survive off of 50K now if I had to in the DMV area let alone be comfortable, so how could I retire and live comfortably with that? Retiring and still living frugally is not for me. I want to be able to travel and enjoy life however I please by time I retire. 1M is not enough for me to retire off of and have money and property to pass down to future generations.

Only takes a net worth of 33K to be in the 70th percentile for people younger than 35. Its not too hard to beat out other american's, so I don't really care what the average american is doing I focus on myself.

This is HOUSEHOLD net worth btw

For those of you thinking you're going to make your millions, I hope you make it in your 20s or 30s or the latest 40s cause once you get into your 50s it won't even matter anyways

Obviously average Americans can easily retire off a million dollar estate.

My grandmother and grandfather retired at 50 and had more than enough money saved... A few years go by she ended up going back to work. Not because of money but she got bored out of her mind. Having a whole 24 hrs to do any and everything got boring. She still working to date but works from home.

My grandparents also retired early as well and they just had normal blue collared jobs.

Honestly if your house is paid for and you have no car note, retiring is actually totally feasible. I have a friend that have a home that their parents left for them since they went back to the Philippines. He has about a 50K salary job but do so much since mortgage is paid for. If he was frugal, he could totally retire early if he wants to but he's traveling and bought a BMW.

40 at his finest?  I'd say the majority of 40 year olds have declined physically compared to in their 20s and 30s
