Atlanta Teachers Face 20 Years In Jail For Cheating Test Scores

Can we go after the politicians for dumbing down the tests to boost test scores too?

And the ones that cut funding for programs that help struggling students and schools

Not cut, just reallocate funds to food & pensions.

HALF of every dollar of our state budget goes towards education and we're still 47-48 every year.
What state you in, Cali?

-Second are you throwing money spent in the university system too into that number?

-Third, is your state really the best representation of the USA as a whole (especially with it's unique demographics), and in this case Georgia. Where is took place?
Honestly, I can't remember if that included the UC & CSU system or not, but I know they were only about 10% of the spending if it were included.

Let's also not forget that a government "cut" is different that people in the real world define a "cut". What it actually means is a decrease in the increase of what was intended to be spent.

Damn RICO charges for real though? They're teachers, this not no damn criminal enterprise

I think people are trying to point out that it won't make anything better because the education system is fundamentally broken.

It might be broken, when's the last time anyone here voted at a school board meeting? Going to PTA meetings, getting involved. I'm guilty too, but we can and have to make a difference. Just because the system might be broken doesn't give the teachers the right to abuse it & break it even further. From a young age teachers along with our parents teach us a lot about right and wrong. We collectively clearly failed these students, community, families, & country.

I have no idea what you're getting at with this

Absolutly they were, or even fighting just to keep their jobs.

When things like this are involved, the whole concept of "job/career" flies out the window. The moment they gave the students answers they pretty much said "F this." They have ethical obligations, I'm usually pretty calm and collect. For some reason these criminals really set me off smh... No shade at anyone, but foreal this angers me man!

Bro i agree with you, they're idiots. I'm just rationalizing the possibilities as to why they did.

I know fam, I know. Not trying to come at anyone the wrong way. This just set me off another level.
Now that I have nieces and nephews who I see as my kids, & my future kids this is not the "education" I'd want for them. We need change, but I know we sat back and let things happen. Just by not voting, or expressing our opinions in a more influential way.
We take sports, technology, gossip, music, etc. so serious. Yet education is a complete waste of time? We fail these children every day when we let things like this happen.

Cold world, get a blanket.
These "teachers" were just chasing a paycheck.
They had no intentions on the students learning because they knew at the end they'd just give them the answers to test. All that tax payer money down the drain. They might not get 20 years, but as long as they serve time then it helps.

No ones really gonna know why, but its a dog eat dog world. Disappointed the teachers did this. This code of ethics thing for any profession is absurd. Thry might as well require all professions to take a test and keep their licenses.

Bullock first convicted Atlanta schools educator to accept plea deal in test-cheating trial

Convicted Atlanta schools educator Donald Bullock, a former test coordinator, accepted a plea deal from the district attorney’s office for his role in the APS test-cheating scandal.

At a sentencing hearing Tuesday, Bullock apologized for his involvement in the cheating scandal and admitted guilt.

As part of his plea deal, Bullock was sentenced to 5 years probation, 6 months of weekends in jail, a $5,000 fine and 1,500 hours of community service. He also waived the right to future appeals.

“I hope you’re able to help some people,” said Judge Jerry Baxter. “I think you will.”

“Thank you for accepting responsibility and relieving me of a harsh sentence for you,” Baxter added. “Anyway good luck.”

2nd teacher just took a plea

simalar to the one above

1000 hrs community service they making them teach/ help inmates get geds

this judge trying to get fame from this case

to the ones who didnt this plea he actually tacked on extra years

That's a better sentence than 30 years in jail. I feel like that was just for shock value.

Slap on the wrist. The real problem is that they just lost their job and breached their teaching contract. If it's all they had going for them they'll be working minimum wage for ever

the teachers who didnt take the plea i respect them..more gangsta then some these so called gangsters

I have 40 hrs of community service to do and im dreading it.... some got 1,500!!? ggaahhhhh

There are teachers who have slept with MULTIPLE students that don't get time like these #APS educators are getting.
Some of these educators/administrators are receiving more PRISON time than sexual assault criminals do nowadays. This is insane.
This is just too much! Please just take the plea and accept what you have done RT@judgealexferrer: This is giving me a headache

i wouldnt plea either if im innocent f the dea

Statutory rape of students gets you less time than inflating tests scores?

Our "justice" system is trash. Straight trash.

Well let's also not mention that female on male for whatever reason is "not that bad" when it comes to rape charges
