Tanaka looked unreal. Probably the best he's looked all year. He was an animal. Should have let him pitch the 8th too.

Alex is pissing me off

Son was hitting 96mph in the 7th inning. Don't know if I ever saw Tanaka throw with so much velocity

Our Infield Defense :pimp:

This team needs to stay at this pace, stay a few games over .500 for the next month, so we can make some moves in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline to take the division.

Yankees to skip Michael Pineda's next turn due to innings concern

BRONX, N.Y. - The New York Yankees will be skipping Michael Pineda's next turn through the rotation, a move manager Joe Girardi says was made simply because of Pineda's innings count.

"He hasn't thrown a lot of innings since 2011; he only threw 171 that year, and he threw about 100 total last year," Girardi said Friday in announcing the move. "We felt this was probably the best time to do this; it becomes tough when you're in a long stretch, but with these days off, we feel we can do this without taxing the other pitchers."

Pineda's next start will come next Friday in Baltimore, giving him a full 10 days rest in between outings, and Girardi admitted it was a tough decision to make.

"Believe me, it was something we discussed on the plane Wednesday, and I thought about it all day yesterday," the skipper said. "In a perfect world, you don't want to do it because he's pitching well, but if there's ever a time to do it, this is it."

It was also tough to tell Pineda, Girardi noted, but the big right-hander understood the situation.

"Physically he feels great and he doesn't want to miss a start, but he understands, and I don't think it's too far removed in his mind what he went through to get to this point," the skipper said. "And, you have to measure what he's been through physically and how many innings he's already thrown. Last year he threw 76 major-league innings, and he's at 70 already."

The manager admitted that the team hasn't discussed an innings limit for Pineda per se, only noting that the righty is on pace to pitch 220 innings, and "that's out of the question in our mind."

That said, however, it is possible that the team could skip a turn with Pineda again in the future, although he hopes to avoid that until at least the second half of the season.

"Yeah, it's possible, because 220 innings is a big stretch for a guy that just hasn't done it," Girardi said. "The next big break we have to manipulate things is at the All-Star break, and i hope we won't have to do it again before then."

In the interim between these starts, Pineda will throw some side sessions to stay sharp, and Girardi said and could be available in an emergency if a need arises.

"I think you'd have to say that's a possibility if he hadn't thrown a side that day," the skipper said. "As you know, with the sides, the intensity is much less, and you want to keep him as sharp as you can."

With Pineda slotted out, the Yankees will have Nathan Eovaldi, Adam Warren, and CC Sabathia pitch this weekend's series against the Angels, and after Monday's off-day, Masahiro Tanaka (Tuesday) and Eovaldi (Wednesday) will go in their two-game set with the Nationals.

The Yankees then have another day off next Thursday before heading to Baltimore.

can we start calling Girardi "Caitlin" ? :smh:
