Found a brand new iPad, what should I do

So, I found a brand new ipad in the backseat of a vehicle that I test drove. 

Dealer didn't claim it.

Apple wouldn't take it to return to owner.

Apple Support suggest that I call my local law enforcement agency and turn it in.

It's been turned on so that the owner could find it if the "find my iphone" feature is activated.

It's about to go dead, again.

What should I do now, take it to the police station?
 
What would you want someone to do if your iPad was misplaced and they found it?

Man.....you are way too nice of a person. I lost an iPhone 4 and a 5s and texted that person saying I'd give them a reward. No response from both of them. If I find a iPad, best believe I am slanging that.
 
Hard reset, flip on craigslist.

Use a burner phone, create the listing at a local Starbucks

Straight cash, don't let them see your car

And I woundn't post it on Craigslist too (unless it has a background picture, and they can tell you what picture it is)

Posted on Craigslist that he found a iPad mini but had a lock on it.

Person texts him inquiring about the iPad....

He asked "Okay, what's the password then?"

Person says "Sorry, no disrespect but I don't know you, you might factory reset my iPad, and I have very important info in there"

So a nice but naïve person, he says "No problem, let's meet up ____"

They meet up....

I've had it for a week.

My girl charged it.

No call or knock on the door from the owner.

Maybe he/she doesn't want it.

Maybe it was in the backseat of the ride I test drove for weeks before I found it and the owner stopped looking for it.

Apple makes it easy to find lost goods, consumers of Apple products don't know this, is the issue, I think.

It's pass locked. Like all Apple Products.

It does nobody any good except the OG owner.

Why pay anything for it?
 
return it to the owner. if you cant find him, donate it to a community center like the boys and girls club
