The Netflix tone is dark and gritty. Nothing says realistic. I mean Luke Cage is gonna be set on fire in an episode and live. Jessica Jones has superpowers. A guy fighting a dragon in a mythical city wouldn't shock me with all the other strange things going on in the MCU.

Going off his origin that's not how it is. He ends up being raised there and trained to be the next IF. So the city showing up every 10 years doesn't matter until when he leaves. As for defeating the dragon, just show dude entering a cave, some fire, and a hr later he's the IF. Not a big hurdle.

As for the city, everything I've seen of it makes it look like some 12th century Asian city. Look like a big *** market place that sells fish. Something out of that Kung-fu Panda movie  That aint hard to pull off. Aint much mystical about the city itself other than they're all immortal.

The most they have to do is cgi on entering the portal to the city and the dragon. Everything else is should be easy.

I'm not saying that can't do it I'm sayin it doesn't fit with the tone they established.

From the video I watched it seemed more like the secret city he is from is white not asian

Its Dr. Strange that Im more worried about

Nah man everything about Iron Fist is asain inspired. The character was made to piggy back off of bruce lee 70's asian culture popularity.

Everything about the charter is mixed up with appropriating asain culture, filled with tropes Iron first is basically a white savoir type. "white savoir"

I really can't imagine Marvel didn't notice the backlash Aloha got, and Exodus, and they gunna roll forward something which si even worse appropriation wise.

I can't imagine a portal, or a dragon is Dardevil.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

but from jeff Loeb himself

"... and make it very, very grounded, very gritty, very real,” "

“There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky. There are no magic hammers.”

If there are no magic hammers seems like a amgic dragon would be a problem.

I think people knew, as soon as we announced Jessica Jones, Jessica Jones was based on a much more adult comic. The source material came that way. She has real problems with a number of things that she abuses! And we’re not shying away from that. There’s no tidying her up. And Krysten Ritter is killing it. And when people get a hold of what David Tennant is doing as Killgrave...

When we first started talking about Daredevil, we promised that we were telling a story that was first a crime drama and then a superhero show. This is more of a psychological thriller. This speaks to when you think about what happened to Jessica and what sort of destroyed her life and how she tried to put it together, and then to have to confront the person who deconstructed her world, that’s a very powerful, emotional place to start from. We just think people are going to be blowing through those. You get to the end of the first episode, and you go, "I need to know what the rest of the story is."

If Daredevil is crime drama, and Jessica Jones is psychological thriller, do you already know what genre Luke Cage is?

We do. And when we get there, I’ll be happy to talk to you about it.

It appears each show has its own tone.

Lastly, how close are we to hearing about Iron Fist casting?

Uh, close. You know, we have not started Luke [Cage], so the only reason you know who Luke (Mike Colter) is is because he appears in Jessica. We held back as long as we could on who was cast for Jess, and what a wonderful cast that turned out to be. We’re at the very early stages on Luke, so I’m not really worried about where we are going to be with Fist. There are some ideas that we have. And when we get there, I’m sure we’ll be talking about it.

We’ll talk about it at next year’s Comic-Con.

Oh no! You’ll hear long before that. That much I can tell you.

I think they can mix it together enough so it can fit the tone to an extent. JJ's powers is already straying away from what Loeb said since she can fly (just not all that well). If they can't do it then so what? IF will be the one out of the four that isn't gritty, street level, and as grounded as the rest.

As for the appropriation it'll come to the point to who is making those claims. Wouldn't be surprised if Marvel is willing to wait and see if there is gonna be any blacklash to Danny Rand being a white guy. At best they compromise and make him half white on his mom's side.

Dont know anything about the character but would there be much backlash if dude was asian?

If not couldnt they make the magic based on the dark ages where people were paranoid about witch trials? Also make the fighting based on western fighting styles like Kickboxing or something.

Imo they should just make him asian

My whole thing so far is ppl have been creating their own problem so far by expecting their will be some issue.

Like I said I can't imagine it won't be and issue, if it was an issue for Exodus and Aloha, why would Marvel be immune?

and honestly it should be an issue. It's one of those old racist things that you just roll with when reading comics becuas it's always been that way, but if marvel wants to roll with it they should face criticism.

How does making Danny Rand asian fix anything?

Marvel needs to stop being full of themselves and give us iron fist in all his glory. It could be similar to "Charmed" with the supernatural theme and dark tone. Regardless everything Marvel is saying about the difficulties in iron fist contradicts the fact that Dr. Strange is in production. You have a film with a multi million dollar budget with supernatural themes being the main story and you can't pull it off with a television series?

The people running the films is not a same as the people running the TV shows. Might as well consider them two different companies.

Those movies sucked. You bring up those movies like the controversy dominated media. Exodus got what was coming to it. Aloha wasn't gonna be a big deal either way. Think that was a love story right?

And like I said this is just expecting there'll be a problem cuz of 2 movies.

There's expecting there's gonna be an issue cuz you think other ppl are gonna be mad and then there's genuinely having a problem with it. Thing is Marvel isn't even close to announcing who they have cast IF yet.

It really just seems yall are using the rumors that Marvel might be having problems on how to execute the story to fit the other netflix shows and trying to extend that by making it about Danny Rand whiteness appropriating Asian culture. Much ado about nothing at this stage.

Marvel isn't saying anything about difficulties for a show they haven't even started pre-producing yet. Rumors are.

Also Marvel studios and Marvel tv are two different companies at this point. Feige can't just throw a few mill at them so they can have a bigger budget. So their ambition for Strange isn't gonna be matched by the plans they have for Iron Fist.

Netflix does not lose money from binge watchers. In fact one of the metrics for wether or not a show gets another season is how fast people finish the show  Thats why DD Season 2 was announced something like a week after the S1 release date

binge watching is more of a side effect if anything with netflix since seasons are released at once. i'd binge watch game of thrones if hbo dropped seasons in bulk. if a show is that good, that is what ends up happening.

first time i binged was before the wire season 5 dropped. had to catch up so put in work at night :smh: felt like **** during class (college). but that show was too fire, and i couldn't help myself. the game is the game..

never heard of habitual subscribe and cancel. that is a pain in the ***, who'd want to do that?

as far as netflix $$ is concerned, recent business news reports that netflix will see slow profit gains (if any) due to expansion in europe and asia this year and next. but a quick look at stock prices show nothing but gain over 5 yrs.

i believe they are raising prices too. by a dollar or something.

A lot of ppl do that. Even more now with these other streaming sites popping up (amazon, hulu getting in to this with OG series, even ******* yahoo).

Nobody got time to be paying monthly subscriptions to all of them. So they pay for a month or w/e, binge, and be out most times. Basically stop paying the monthly **** and let it lapse and then start paying again when a new season drops.

I have a subscription to the big 3. Hulu Amazon Netflix

I suppose I can see why people would drop subscribe drop. I use Hulu and Amazon way way more than Netflix and am probably not going to touch Netflix until JJ.

I probably haven't used Netflix in months.

*edit

Oh, I remember now. I used it for Sense8.

I wonder if Netflix will ever reach a point where they have a nice show drop every month.

Just HBO and Netflix for me. HBO is really the only one I watch consistently. I cant say I blame people who pay for a month of Netflix when their fave shows drop. The movie selection there is trash. The TV selection could be a lot better but isnt terrible. The original content needs a min to catch up with other premium cable networks.

Luke cage being filmed in da heightz this week. And a few blocks over they're filming a James Franco HBO show too.

Repped for all the great info you provide.  I'm already sold on the show so Im going to avoid all the new trailers / spoilers
