2015-2016 San Antonio Spurs Thread: Tim Duncan Retires After 19 Seasons

I'll take whatever he can give us.
For real. @Mister Friendly  is my guy, but him not wanting Manu back was crazy. That guy on the deal that hes going to get is one of the best values in the league.

Seeing the lineup of Parker, Manu, Kawhi, Aldridge and Duncan out there will be fun in my opinion. I definitely need to hit up some games this season :smokin

As above we're still a 3rd string PG short.  Manu can play the PG spot for the 2nd unit, but he won't be as effective - especially at 38.  He'll need to share the load.  Mills is okay, but for me he doesn't have that stability of CoJo, however he's more of an instant offense kind of player.

I think we're in need of one more big too.  Some veteran - for hack-Jordan lol

Be interesting to see how the offense pans out - can LMA function at a high level without the ball i.e. sitting picks, etc.. or does he need the ball in his hands?  I can see TP9/LMA taking some time to get used to each other.  The great thing is you have an offensive outlet when the PnR with TD/TP9 fails.

One thing for sure is defenders will be forced to come out to LMA and West - in effect that leaves clear lanes to the basket for Kawhi and TP9/Manu who can slash off the big men.  Look for Duncan to establish good position down low as well.

Can see Diaw/LMA working well together.

Also have a legitimate rebounder in West and another mid-range shooter (amongst the best in the league).  Taking an $11m pay-cut is admirable.  Winning is everything, even more-so when you're in the final years of your career.  Does anyone know what his attitude is like? Is he coach-able?

Then you have a motivated DG and upcoming talent in Kawhi.

Pressure is on us though..

Out of respect for the franchise, I couldn't delay my decision much longer. They need time to form a new team. If I decided to stop playing, they had to look for another option. I could wait and see what happened with Aldridge, if he was coming or not. That was my deadline. Once he said yes, it was my turn to decide.

I'm staying in because I don't see myself away from basketball yet. Two months passed, enough time to stop the ball and think.

I believe this is a nice opportunity. I am excited about the new team and I didn't want to miss the fun.

Knowing that they were so sure about keeping me in the team was definitely a crucial factor. If they harbored doubts, the decision making process would have been faster. But knowing that they wanted me was nice, it made me feel respected, and the decision comes more freely. It must be pretty hard to retire because you don't have the choice to continue. Luckily, that was not the case.

I didn't watch the second round of playoffs, nor the Conference finals. I was still I bit hurt. Then, when I watched the finals. I missed it a little. I felt that itch telling me I wanted to play again. The fire is still burning.

When it comes to taking such a turning point decision for your life as it is retiring, there can be no doubts. Some days I woke up saying I was quitting. Some days I would be sure to stay. But for such a relevant decision, I needed to be a 100 % sure. Once I said yes, all my doubts vanished. I talked about it with Pop. "I'm excited, I want to do it."

For Many, there never seems to be a problem. Many always wants me to do what I want. My kids are still kids, so for them, the situation remains the same. His father plays basketball for a living, and that's the most normal thing in the world. That's all they want to know.

I am very excited about what's coming. The addition of a player like LaMarcus Aldrigde, one of the best in the NBA nowadays, is very important. That's quite a change for our image.

I'm really going to miss Tiago, a good friend inside as well as outside the court. I will also miss Marco, Baynes and Cory Joseph. Loosing playing mates is always sad, but we all know of the changes that were taking place this year. And within those changes, the arrival of Aldridge is a good thing. It will be interesting to see how a player of his characteristics integrates with a winning team as ours. I feel really optimistic.

We also added David West, a hard and experienced player. He gives us depth and a variety of new options. He dismissed an excellent economic proposal to join our team.

The older you get, the more you know about the time you have left. I know I want to have fun, to treasure those moments, and at the same time, I want to win. If you win, you have more fun. That's my mind. Soon I will be 38, and I know every new season can be my last one. I know I don't have much longer, but I don't think about that when I play. Who knows? Maybe by June of next year I still feel I can keep helping my team. I don't know. Time will tell.

I enjoy living every day of my life. Now, with the confirmation in mind, things change. I've been training, weightlifting to keep in shape. But now that's all set, that I said I am back and everything is in place, my goals are others. I have to be physically prepared. I have to adjust my strength and my diet. There is no rush with my game, but during my visit to Argentina I ate too much and I'm going to take care of that little by little.

I feel flattered that people is happy to know that I will continue playing. It makes me feel well, it helps me find new challenges. You don't want to disappoint anyone. Because all that also implies a responsibility, even if it's not your priority. I want to do things right.

During the last months, when I came across one of those clips they post on Twitter or some video, I watched it and said to myself: "I want to be there, in the court; I want to feel that again, to be part of a team that contagious enthusiasm that we have transmitted during the last few seasons. I am part of something very special for the NBA's present and for its history. The fire is still burning. I want to enjoy it. I want to live it. That's all we have in life. I don't want to miss it. Now, with all those new talents that we incorporated, these players that can change the game while keeping our traditions at the same time, I know we can still achieve a lot.

Your thoughts on Jeremy Lin? I feel like he would want more than we'd be willing to give him, but he would fill the need of a third PG, and plays similar in CoJo in some ways. He's a guy that will attack the rim more than Patty ever would and he can guard 2s and 1s.

The market is so thin that we may not get anyone now that I really think about it. I would even take Austin Rivers to be honest.

I haven't seen too much of Linsanity, from the few games i've seen him play in LA/NYC he's a bit of ball hog - his IQ is so so.   I can see his similarity with CoJo - steady ball-handler, biggish frame.  Attacks the bucket.

If coach Pop see's the system can utilize/adapt his skillset and RC get's him at a cut-price deal, then he could be an excellent 3rd string PG.  Besides, Houston, NYC, LA don't the same type of environment the Spurs have - plus there's always the contender factor.  Some players just blossom under a better coach where their existing skills shine even more and their weaknesses are either improved upon, or 'hidden' by other players who pick up the slack.

I recall seeing him lock-up TP9 a few times when he was in Houston, which was great.

Not too sure about Austin Rivers, that guy was talking **** to Patty Mills.. "too small" he said when he had him in the post.  Wow really.  That attitude is a no-no.  Personally I hate this sort of 'carry-on.'  It's just not needed.  Sure MJ ran his mouth as much as a prostitute, but you don't need to do that in order to become great.  TD, Kawhi, LMA are good examples.

Plus he's a pouter, but is there really anyone else better out there??

We're kinda stuck in that regard.

On a positive note, its crazy to see a guy who's so unathletic dominate high level basketball in such a fashion. One more year with Chip and this guy will become a competent three point shooter and I can see him becoming a part of this rotation down the road. He dominated the D league last year, almost dragged that team to the D League Finals. Watched two games of the Austin Spurs Vs Santa Cruz Warriors and he was playing well there and thats the best D League team in the league.

Marc Stein- Sources say San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick to Sacramento for Ray McCallum to replace Cory Joseph.

Just keeps getting better.

^ Heard this guy was heavily underrated?

Can anyone shed some light? From what i've read he's a better CoJo..

Spurs really looking good for the future, not just the upcoming season

He's right on par with CoJo defensively, offensively may be a bit better. He's a better three point shooter thats for sure. For what we gave up, its an absolute steal, he's worth more than a second round pick.

Nice of Bruce Bowen to give up his jersey.

I'm interested in McCallum kid - I hope he's coachable and we can mold him into taking that Ginobili/2nd unit general.  From what i've read from some Sac forums/fans they're all angry that Sac let him go, but are so happy for the kid for his chance to grow.

I'm so excited that we're slowly piecing together a team that can be groomed and added to when TD and Manu depart.

I'm hoping to catch a few games out at San An next year, travelling all the way from Australia!  I need to see TD and Manu play before they retire

excited as hell for our spurs this year...

we need 1 more 3 point shooter and a back up PG...and we should be fine...
