Everyone talks about how you need great point guards today... But lets be real...

When was the last time a team with a "great" or at most an above average point guard has even won a championship?

LeBron.

Tony Parker.

Rajon Rondo

But it's about matching up. You have a tough road to try and get to the WCF & Finals. Without a PG. You can do it, but you better hope you have a Top 10 player. Preferably a Top 5, and great surrounding cast

You really only need an average point guard.

Historically to win championships you need 2 great wing players; or a great wing and a great big.

i.e. MJ-Scottie, Lebron-Wade, Kirby-Shaq, Kirby-Pau, Parker-Manu-Duncan, Magic-Kareem.

Obviously there is exceptions such as Isiah Thomas, Hakeem, Dirk doing it basically with no great 2. Or just a great team: Pistons.

We won back to back titles with Fish starting as a PG. It's not a necessity. It'd be nice to have though no doubt.

a guy like kobe/lebron/wade/mj does everything in an offence that a pg would do but better

no reason at all to blow big money on an allstar pg. it doesnt result in championships

look at the clippers, nash's suns, kidd's nets, ect...

Throw Kidd in there, too. Yes, he WAS elite at one time, but not on that championship Mavs team.

But it's a different context.

Sure you don't need an elite PG. But you sure as hell better have 2 Top 15 players if you don't.

If you don't have that then you need an Elite PG Because you will have to go through PG after PG in the playoffs.

Outside of Russ and Chef Curry, none of these PGS strike fear into anyone and can be neutralized with good team defense.

pat beverly is the perfect pg, as long as he can consistently hit open shots and stay healthy

Pretty much.

Pat Beverly is the perfect point guard on a team with James Harden handling the ball.

You need someone that can penetrate and dish/score.

Reading this article made me think about the rebuild: http://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2015/5...mavericks-playoffs-terrence-jones-cuban-rosas

I suggest everyone set aside five minutes and read this.

Building an elite team in the modern NBA requires long-term vision, the ability to look 3-4 years down the road and the patience not to hurry the process along when things aren't going your way immediately. Just look at how the Warriors have developed Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes or how the Bulls have turned Jimmy Butler, Nikola Mirotic and Taj Gibson into high-level players.

:pimp:

Why do you guys keep suggesting all these centers that are in the same price range as davis but older

Love Boss, but he's stuck between between positions which sticks out like a sore thumb during certain matchups. The skills of a center in a power forward's body.

Curious what you guys think about Joakim Noah?

If we don't draft a big, and strike out on Marc, Deandre and Monroe (assuming we go after them all), Noah would be a solid pickup IMO. Dude was a beast on the boards and solid defender overall before Pau took away his minutes at the 5.

He's 30, so maybe a 3-4 yr deal?

I thought he wasn't an FA until 2016?

Damn you're right my bad, I'm trippin. We're really screwed then at the C position if we don't get one in the draft or sign a quality C in free agency. No thanks to both Lopez bros and Hibbert. Chandler on a 2 year deal may be a last resort option
