Extra money could have offered BOTH DeAndre and LaMarcus.

Two guys that live in LA, could have taken max deals to play for us, with the young core growing long term.
DeAndre was never serious about coming here.  He would have gotten murdered for switching jerseys across the hall.  Even if we get both where does that put us?  Borderline playoff team?  The only team in the West playoffs this year I could realistically think we would be better than would be the Pelicans and maybe dallas.  We sure as hell wouldn't be better than the Spurs who were the sixth seed.  Neither of those players are going to push the meter enough to make us a great team.

DJ and LMA would get more money in Texas anyway even if Kobe is at 10 mil and they still wouldn't be any closer to winning now here with unproven rookies as opposed to the vet laden squads in SA and DAL.

Can't wait to see what CP has to say next summer when Kobe's contract is gone and still nobody comes. Who will the blame shift to then.

First report Woj dropped, LA trying to clear space to offer both.

Clear space.

Like 2 players signed making 4+ million.

Swaggy and Kobe. 4, and 25.

Clear space.

During a rebuild, mind you. A chance to have space for multiple maxes, instead of just one.

That's all well in good to have a chance but that's all it is. There's the other part of the equation where your organization has to be able to sell itself which clearly they're getting an F in. They don't want to be here because the braintrust is incompetent and in LMA's case he doesn't have patience to wait for the kids to develop.

This will be the exact same case with KD next summer as well going into what will be his 10 year in the league the following season. We'll have cap space for two maxes, but damn near everyone else will have space for at least 1 and have far more attractive personnel in place to win immediately including WAS and now the Clippers. There's so many situations that are better than the Lakers it's comical.

The cycle of trying to woo the top tier guys and missing out on actually constructing a team with the 2nd tier guys will continue.

I know.

Not having 25 mil tied up in a 37 year old that "could" be used to lure DeAndre + LaMarcus as a package duo probably would help sell Durant next year tho.

Maybe I'm crazy.

Time to call up Bynum,MWP,and Farmar!Bring back the band for one year just for S's and G's. I

We are in an interesting situation...
To have money that no one wants. So many possible people/things to blame....

To miss out on the big free agents is one thing. But to not make 1 signing at all...like not one...not even now still not one signing....that doesn't seem strange to anyone???

Like ok we no our FO is looking pretty incompetent but at this point in time currently after all this bad press and the fans and us looking like the fools of the league, to still not make one signing or move?? Not one?? Something about that is just strange. Not even a small move. Nothing. I think we may be the only team to not make any sort of move...so strange.

And when they turn that down because of better situations elsewhere + more money -incompetent management then we're right back where we will be summer anyway.

Mavs are a better situation than staying home and playing with LMA, Russell, Randle, Clarkson and Kobe?

Mavs are bringing in Richard Jefferson, JJ Barea, and two starters off microfracture and achilles surgeries.

LMA is the only FA worth talking about. If we don't get him then I'm good with not getting anybody. Deandre wouldn't help us that much. He would be averaging 5.5ppg,12rebs and living in foul trouble due to our weak perimeter defense.

For LMA:

I wanted him as a Center. Him and DeAndre on the same team might've been possible if Kobe doesn't get that long extension or maybe if Nick Young doesn't get that contract, but that's neither here or there. LMA as a 4 & someone like RobinLopez or Tyson Chandler would've been nice, but I'd much rather see Randle play the 4 and grow. It's irrelevant though, I think LMA is a way better 5 than 4, and I bet coach Pop will get LMA to believe that too. The player that fit the most with the Lakers was always DeAndre. A big, athletic, defensive 5 would've been perfect to pair with Randle & Russell. I don't think he was ever going to come to the Lakers though.

At this point, we have to trade for a big salary nobody wants that comes attached with a pick.
Roy Hibbert, NeNe, anybody... as long as you attach first round picks and maybe take Nick Young's contract back (although I can live with Young's contract for now)
David Lee never made sense to me. GS has no picks or young players to offer. Unless they throw us Looney, but the Lakers passed on him for Nance so idk.
Bottom line, I just want picks and 1 year contracts. We're doing this tanking thing again.

Hopefully we get our pick. Then we can either use the pick (and hope to strike big in 2015 free agency), or package it with Clarkson for a good player (Boogie?!?!)

Thought he was originally from the Texas area? Wouldn't that mean he was going back home?

The Timberwolves weren't trying to tank last year, they just sucked.

That's what the Lakers should be this year. It'll be way funner watching DLo and Russell struggle/grow playing 30+ minutes a game than anything we've seen for the past 2 years.

LMA didn't want to play Center tho SoHi. I'd like him there too, especially in today's game. But he wants to be full time PF. (Least that's what he's always claimed up here in Port)

That's what I'm saying. He was never realistic to come here. Unless we drafted Jahlil I guess.
We can sit here and say if they didn't sign Kobe or NY to those extensions they could've brought in RoLo or Chandler/Jordan to pair with LMA @ 4, but it's irrelevant.

For the record, LMA is way better 5 than 4.

CP you and I butted heads a lot last offseason going into the "tank."

But going into this year were on the exact same page.

Agree with all of your thoughts.
I'd rather not waste cap space on players that are just going to strangle hold us on younger more helpful pieces the next upcoming years.

We gotta be patient, we finally have a future with our young 3. No reason to be so damn negative because we missed out on GREG MONROE.

Sheesh.

Updated summer goals: when the Lakers inevitably sign Derrick Williams, Amare Stoudemire, Caron Butler, Will Barton, and Shawne Willliams (again), they keep it to one year.

:frown:
