Everybody wants to be mad at Kobe for his contract now, but Kobe has it right: when you're a franchise player, don't let the owners feed you a bunch of **** about being a team player and taking less.

If they want to build a contender, tell them to take one for the team and absorb the luxury tax...they have a lifetime to recoup those losses...the player has only as long as his body holds up and his talents are bankable.

Dirk took less, because he's old, and wanted to help the team by sacrificing, but in reality, he just got G'd by Cuban....because at the end of the day, he's still a fan draw: people pay money to say they saw Dirk play...so realistically, its more than just about on-court production with superstars, its about Jersey sales and putting butts in seats.

Besides, Kobe's contract isnt even the problem...We could have 100 mil in cap space and still would be in the same spot: Lakers need to fix their culture and on-court product first before anybody will want to come and play. It can be done, its just going to take time and developing talent.

It seems that free agents didn't have a problem coming while Shaq was there. He is a legend, and people had no issues playing with the Lakers while both he and Kobe were in the locker room while with the Lakers.
Who were those Free Agents?

Would it been nice if Kobe took 10 mil less, absolutely but that still doesn't absolve the organization of all their other responsibilities. Including offering him that contract coming off an Achilles injury in the first place. Nobody told them to write a blank check and expect any human to turn down 48.5 mil. This falls on the organization and them soley. Kobe is just the easy fall guy.

You're ******* kidding right?

He has too be lol

Hard to sell big name free agents that they can be the face of the franchise when kobe is in the room. That's nothing to do with what kobe says or does either, it just comes with his legend status. MJ could suit up in a bulls uniform this year and no one would care able d rose anymore

Are you really comparing prime shaq, prime kobe and Phil Jackson to the free agents we can pull with a rookie, super washed kobe and Byron Scott?

Of course people want to play with prime kobe shaq and Phil, it's pretty much a free ring.

Blame the front office for willingly giving away money to kobe. Can't be mad at kobe (or anyone) for taking extra money when offered to them

Why would any max level player want to sign here and play with bums and 19 year olds? There are solid playoff teams willing to pay them just as much as we are

3 years to Hill/Ellington? No. Screw that.

Nobody should get more than 1 unless they're 25 or younger.

Just sit. Keep Sacre, Kelly, etc and take our lumps.

Mitch, Jeanie, Kobe did this, let them ride it out.

**** your max contract Kobe. This is what you get for taking that ridiculous contract.

It's about getting them for long term cheap contracts to trade them..

As we've seen 2 years ago, and last year. An expiring of a bench player is worth nothing.

3 years at below market value. You piece them together, you may be able to get a quality player in return. Or assets. Or a young player. Or piece them together with say Clarkson, and get somebody really good that a team is trading because they are a FA, or problems with FA.

It's not the money it's the fact that he is still there period Kobe getting paid 5M or 25M doesn't change the fact that he is still Kobe the ahole

Now, not even the so called "washed" players are signing, and the Lakers would gladly sign a Karl Malone today. In fact, they did it last year with Carlos Boozer.

Your move.

Not sure what this means, people don't want to sign with us because we suck and kobe is washed. Not because kobe is being mean at recruiting dinners.

They weren't in there primes and Kobe and shaq were. We had Phil then, now we have Byron.
People weren't signing before Byron got there.

It's a shame, because they had more talent there when Mike Brown was coaching, AND they played defense.

The washed players are ring chasing on non garbage teams

Stop relying on the city or the history or kobe to attract free agents. Build a half decent team and people will start signing with us.
