i can see Kobe come back if the team can land a top tier FA this summer and ball out this upcoming season to the tune of being another Key FA agent away from possibly contending in 2016.

He wants #6 bad

They are not going to give him one. He's done after this season.

And Lakers have done, and have proven to do very little to appease Kobe outside of his contract. And the contract was more a marketing tool than anything. See Miami haggling over Wade's contract, that's a bad look to players. See the Lakers, who take care of their main staples.... That's attractive to a player.

I honestly think that was a big part of it. It was stupid, but I think it had something to do with why they did it.

And even if he wanted to be back, it would be for a room exception. Lakers more than took care of him already.

Wait till next year if they land KD.

You better believe Kobe will be brought back for a 1 year deal and it won't be for cheap also.

They are not going to give it to him.

They already gave him his golden parachute.

He will be given whatever scraps are left, if there is any in the cap.

If not he gets whatever exception we have left.

He's not going to play anywhere else. So it's pretty much an easy discussion that Kobe doesn't have leverage in anymore.

If we pull LMA/Durant or anything close to that (DeAndre/Durant) and Kobe wants to come back and contribute, fine, 1 mil a year, ala GP/Malone deals.

There is ZERO reason to offer more than that to a player entering his 21st season with high mileage and a plethora of injuries.

If he accepts one mil, and maybe comin off the bench, great, welcome back. If he can't handle that, then he is free to seek employment elsewhere.

Man the hell with Lopez id rather have DJ with his horrible FT shooting. Plus lopez is injury prone and trash at defense no bueno

I don't think anyone is really lobbying for Brook's services. It's Robin that most would prefer.

Yall funny... If Kobe gets through this season healthy he's coming back for Duncan type deal.

He's not passing up a chance at getting #6

Mavericks seen as likeliest to lure DeAndre Jordan from Clippers

The Dallas Mavericks are widely considered the likeliest team in the league to persuade free-agent center DeAndre Jordan to leave the Los Angeles Clippers, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks are the team feared most by the Clippers even though Jordan is expected to meet with at least two more teams: the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.

Mavericks small forward Chandler Parsons, who regards himself to be Dallas' lead recruiter on free agent matters, visited Jordan in Houston last weekend and traveled to Los Angeles immediately after Thursday's draft to spend more time with the big man.

Both Parsons and Jordan are represented by L.A.-based Relativity Sports and agent Dan Fegan. Parsons helped recruit Dwight Howard, another Fegan client, to Houston two years ago.

The Milwaukee Bucks, sources say, are also among teams hoping to get a meeting with Jordan, who was an All-NBA third team selection this past season after leading the league in both field goal percentage (71.3) and rebounding (15.0 per game).

But sources close to the situation said Sunday night that Jordan's decision most likely will come down to the Clippers and the Mavericks.

The Mavs, sources say, are also on the list of teams who will be granted a sitdown early in free agency with All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who is known to be strongly weighing a move away from the Portland Trail Blazers despite the fact that Portland can offer a contract one year longer -- and nearly $30 million richer -- than any other Aldridge suitor.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported earlier this week that the San Antonio Spurs have emerged as the strongest threat to luring Aldridge out of Portland and that the Lakers have nudged ahead of the Mavericks on the list of potential destinations for the former Seagoville High School star.

If the Mavs are unsuccessful recruiting Jordan, sources say, they will attempt to re-sign veteran center Tyson Chandler.

Chandler, whom the Mavs did not re-sign after he played a critical role in their 2011 title run but reacquired in a trade with New York in June 2014, said Saturday night that he doesn't take the team's pursuit of Jordan personally.

"No, because business is business," Chandler said before Dirk Nowitzki's annual charity baseball game in Frisco.

"And at the end of the day, I get it. The franchise [has] to make the best decision for the franchise. Of course, I still feel like I can go, still have a lot to give. But at the end of the day, I feel like I'll make the best decision for myself and my family and the Mavericks will make the best decision for the organization."

If Jordan goes to the Mavs, this almost ensures Aldridge or Chandler to the Lakers. :nerd:

Kobe won't take less than 5mil too

He sees the writing on the wall for 2016 and I'm sure he'd have something in the tank to do so.

The competitive side we know of Kobe has me wanting to agree, to get #6.

But that contract he is currently in has me wanting to disagree, thinking he'd rather be 'properly compensated'.

begins the "you cant give someone like DJ 20 mil" posts

great defensively, would be a great compliment to randle BUT

liability at the line and in crunch time. Kobe iwll make him cry  ...etc.

I really don't see this being Kobe's last year. And I don't see him coming back for "cheap". A discount, sure. But cheap? Less than $5 million? I don't think so. If we land a couple big FA's and are contending next year, I can see him signing a one year deal worth some change (depending on what he has left in the tank after this year).

Also I don't see us landing LA or DJ. San Antonio will make That work. Maybe a sign and trade with splitter (which does leave them vulnerable defensively IMO)? I just have a feeling Kobe is keeping some younger FA's from wanting to go to LAL. Hopefully I'm wrong.

The Jimmy Butler thing. My take now that I slept on it:

1. He won't be a Laker next year. That's obvious. It just isn't going to happen.

2. I don't think he wants to play for the Bulls anymore. Hoiberg could change that. Or maybe he loved Thibs so much that his mind can't be changed.

3. Because he will have to, I think he wants a short term deal with the Bulls as opposed to the 5 year max. My guess is he just wants two years at the max level. Then sign a 4 year max when his salary could be $27mil as opposed to $19.3mil, and he'd get that anywhere. If he's fortunate enough to make two all star games as starter or two All First or Second teams, that number is $32.7mil.

4. He is not risking that much by taking the QO. Yeah, yeah, money on the table, hasn't had a big contract yet, setting up the family for generations. He'll make a few million more if he takes the QO, then gets a 4 year max afterwards. Also gets luxury of choice where he gets to play.

But even if he has a horrible injury. See Wes Matthews, he'll still get most, if not all his money anyway in Free Agency.

If Wes Matthews commands $10mil with the cap at $67.1mil after an Achilles tear at age 28, then when the cap goes to $89mil, Jimmy is going to get at least $13mil of the $17.2mil he would have gotten.

Well, Jimmy wouldn't be a bad Plan B after Durant next year if he takes a one year deal from the Bulls.
