Okafor will be fine. He's one of the best low post scorers to come out of the draft since 2000.

Has a high basketball IQ, has many moves and counter moves in the post, can pass out of the post, knows how to make decisive moves and turn away from and pass out of double teams.

Has already dropped weight to be able to play quicker on defense.

Defense is just as much about effort as it is skill, if not more about effort. His biggest problem on defense was lack of effort. He was lazy and gave lackadaisical effort. Just get his effort up and he'll be passable at defense because he is not undersized at all.

Two legit concerns is he's not a midrange shooter, his defense.

Effort solves a lot about his defense. He'll never be Marc Gasol, but just needs to be fine on defense and in combination of his offense he'll be a solid player.

His midrange, has to be practiced. Just need to work.

Remember 1st year player is normally not a finished product.

And if you bring up that the NBA has moved away from big low post centers, the explanation is easy. There's not enough good low post centers for every team to play that way. Maybe having one gives us an advantage.
