Love/KAT frontcourt, I'd watch.

Weird. The Love trade redirected Andrew Wiggins to Minnesota, now Love might play with whoever they 'don't' take from the outset. :nerd:

Kupchak compares Clarkson to Westbrook
By: Baxter Holmes

Late last season, Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott spoke of Lakers rookie guard Jordan Clarkson in the same breath as Oklahoma City star guard Russell Westbrook, saying that while Clarkson wasn't on the same level, he did at least play a similar style and have similar athleticism.

Now Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is making the same argument.

"If there’s a player in the league that plays like him, it’s Russell Westbrook," Kupchak said during a Thursday radio appearance with ESPN's Colin Cowherd. "Now, I’m not saying for a second that Jordan Clarkson is the next Russell Westbrook, but he’s that kind of a ball-handling guard.

The Lakers acquired Clarkson with the 46th pick in the 2014 draft, and he earned considerable playing time last season with injuries decimating the roster.

In 38 games as a starter, many of them at point guard, Clarkson averaged 15.8 points per game on 45.8 percent shooting, with 5.0 assists and 4.2 rebounds.

Clarkson was recently named to the All-Rookie first team. But it’s hard to say if the Lakers believe they’re ready to give the reigns of the offense over to Clarkson next season.

“We drafted him [46th overall]; didn’t know he was going to have that kind of year,” Kupchak said. “But he played a lot of minutes on a team that wasn’t very good. So we’re very encouraged, but the jury is still out on him.”

There are questions about whether Clarkson is a point guard or a shooting guard, but Kupchak said he's a blend of the two positions, much like Westbrook.

“He looks to attack the rim," Kupchak said. "He’s aggressive offensively. He’s not going to walk the ball up the court, make an entry pass and cut through. He’s going to push the ball, look for a crack and try to get to the rim, try to make a play. When he comes off a pick, he’ll look to shoot. He’ll pass the ball, but I would agree -- he’s not the typical, prototype, ball-handling point guard.”

"We don't have time to methodically and slowly build through the draft."
- birthday boy

Saw on my FB wall that he said that. Immediately thought of CP and went, "Ruh roh."

He's talking about a thorough revamp.

We never, ever said to be in the lottery for 6 years.

We said, clear out old money (Nash, Kobe, Pau), reset (don't oversign new money), and gain young, cheap, assets going forward to build with (Randle, #2, Clarkson, #27) and THEN use cap space to supplement cheap talented labor (23 mil cap space this year, 25+ mil cap space next year)

That has been the NT Laker plan since the day after Dwight chose Houston. (2013)

I feel like we're pretty tuned in.

they might as well just hold tight. i feel they're going to be a lottery team again this year unless they sign a big free agent or two this summer.

Pick is only top 3 protected. Not trying to construct a good team starting this season would be extremely damaging to the Lakers for the foreseeable future.

Now if they miss playoff that's fine, but they need considerable improvement for 2016 to be a worthwhile endeavor

Mitch talking hard and calling out guys, saying they shouldn't come here because of KOBE.  Hilarious !  All that PR pitch about KOBE not PLAYING again, and KOBE doing a retweet about his comments 'leaving when he leaves' is just comedy.  But this drama is weak.  The whole ordeal bout how Kobe and MANAGEMENT never really hooked up or aligned itself properly in the past 20 years is pretty damn evident.  A business relationship for sure, with subtle jabs.  It happens though.  Then you have the talk about letting go HILL and all that crap.

A franchise keeping 3-5 or etc. coaches on the books w/o producing is ABSURD.  It really is!  It shows the capacity of management. LOLZ.  Wonder what the true payroll is w/ the assistant coaches and miscellaneous crap.  Can't even commit to anybody, so why bother? LOLZ True LOLZ  It's an embarassment.

Now MITCH talking about how they can't wait for the DRAFT. lolz  No one can, but maybe he's trying to say how inept they are at drafting.

So I ask, SO WHAT IS NEW? LOLZ  They continue to believe in this 'buy your way to a championship' ideology.  I guess history repeats itself and some things just never change.

Remember the days when people were so aroused about D12 coming on board with NASH? LOLZ    This ain't NBA 2K, but that's just how this franchise operates.  If it does operate that way, they will probably pick up a big.

Still bullish on Okafor, well not so, but more because they need to pick up due to hype and potential.  Never on Randle, but we'll see.  Clarkson? LOLZ.........
