True but their's a huge difference between doing what he did in Cleveland vs doing what he was doing in Minny, he still took 3's in Minny yet he was able to get the ball in different spots and have allot more plays ran for him all over the court.

I think Loves overall stats were inflated but you don't get 14-15 boards a night w/o being supremely athletic if you aren't a great rebounder. Even while Cle had him sitting out at the three line & playing with Bron & Thompson he still managed 10 boards a game.

If you're looking at Love for his fit next to Okafor - based on being able to "shoot the three ball at a high rate" to give Okafor more post-ups and being a passer to get Okafor more easy baskets in the post - then you're looking to use him more like Cleveland did than Minnesota.

I don't doubt he can be a great rebounder anywhere he goes. His defensive rebounds don't have anything to do with what role he's assuming on the other end.

Julius Randle doesn't need to be a knockdown three point shooter to fit in with Okafor or any other post player. There are other types of skillsets and types that can fit in just as well.

Randle has a shot, can bring the ball up, can pass. If those things hold true, they can all fit with a player who works in the post.

One guy being a post player doesn't automatically mean the other has to be a stretch shooter. It's not that basic.

*** of now.. we know most of Randles game was predicated on attacking the Rim, or putting a player in the post and muscling his way too a basket. So while yes he may have shown a glimpse of having a Midrange game, i don't understand what is so difficult about realizing that Kevin Love's skillset as it stands is far more conductive to Jahlil Okafor's game than having Randle side by side with him.

Can randle develop a game that works with Okafor sure, as of this point today, it really shouldnt be an argument that Love does most things better than Randle on a NBA court

Okafor won't be able to handle 35 mins of post play for 82 games.

Love can go eat down low for extended periods too

2013 Minny KLove 26.1 and 12.5
2014 Clev KLove 16.4 and 9.7

He'll be somewhere in there for 3 years in LA :pimp:

I don't understand what's so difficult about realizing a three-point shooting power forward isn't the ONLY kind of player that can play next to and be conductive to a post-up center.

Just because the guy can stand farther away doesn't automatically make him a better fit.

Yall sound like Dantoni now. 2 bigs can't play together? Why does Randle need to be a shooter now?

Nobody said two bigs cant play together, but two bigs who are both limited as far as the defensive end of the board, Randle being undersized, Okafor not being that athletic.

And both as of this moment being guys who get the majority of their points almost exclusively in the paint that has to seem a bit problematic right?

Hell look at the Hawks Frontcourt this year on the defensive end and rebounding.. and see how once they got to the playoffs they were getting beat up in there.

Now atleast in the case of Milsap/Horford both of those guys could spread the floor and knockdown shots, so they were able to get great spacing for teammates.

Tell me what combo PF/C you have seen be successful in recent memory where both work heavily in the post and neither was a great Defender?

No where did i say that the PF has to be a three point shooter, however you cant run an nba offense with two guys who primarily get their offense within 12 feet of the basket... Check The detroit pistons and see how that experiment worked.

Both Z-bo & Gasol both prefer to play in the post.. however both of them have no problem stepping out and hitting the midrange shot, just the threat of them knocking down that shot makes it harder for teams to attack either one in the post...

All im saying is if you have two big men who cant score outside of the paint your bound to be stagnant on offense.

Is Randle ready for that big stage?

Ed Davis and Randle coming in with the 2nd group is kinda nice sounding. Can't lie. At least the first season.

These posts sure suggested that's a main reason why you think Love is a guaranteed better fit:

Based on love being a proven 20PPG scorer, Being an Elite Level rebounder, being able to shoot the three ball at a high rate Giving Okafor much more one on one post up opportunities, Being a very skilled passer and someone who can get Okafor some easy baskets in the post... Basically everythingon the court like i stated above.

Well if your opinion is that suddenly Julius Randle has developed into a knockdown three point shooter who spaces the floor, and a guy whos gonna grab 12-14 boards a night, who's has a major strength in passing the ball the yea he would be just as good of a fit.

However since every scouting report on him from H.S to the combine didn't really point to those being his strengths i'm gonna have to go With the guy whos Skillset I KNOW would beneft a player who does most of his work in the post and is a average rebounder.

And an offense relies on how five people fit together and are used together, not just two.

That was ONE of the reasons.. if all K.Love brought was 3's i would have been advocating for any random stretch 4, imo his entire game can work really well around a post center

Here's an article written on Kevin Love after his last season with the Wolves: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/a-move-to-cleveland-and-a-return-to-the-block-for-kevin-love/

Outside of his long-range shots, Love was most efficient right where you'd expect a post-up center to be working.

If you want to maximize both players, you'd still need to figure out a way to let both of them work in the same area.

That's possible (thought with Byron I dunno). But it's not like they're perfect on-paper fits where they work in completely different areas; they overlap.

Obviously Love has the range to make him a threat from outside of that area as well. But unless they can combine Love's left block post-ups, hooks, and efficiency in the paint with Okafor's game on a consistent basis, then he might as well be a random stretch 4 in this scenario.

Bruh... the game is 48 mins long.

Both can have a big share of the posts...if Kobe allows

Then when Okafor posts Love can step out knowing he's gonna get his turn down there too

Simple coaching IMO

I realize that, which is why I said it's still possible to maximize both.

But the guy's argument was that Love is a much better fit for all the stuff he can do around Okafor's game. Them being efficient in basically the same area isn't "around" any part of Okafor's game.

It's possible to have them both work in the paint... I'm just wondering if people who want Kevin Love for his fit realize where a lot of his game came from.

If Love has an advantageous matchup he slides down Okafor slides to elbows opposite short corner for dives.

Love can range out further and give Okafor even more room to work.

I think that works better than Randle/Okafor on paper... Randle can come in and eat vs 2nd units.

Love might even be able to play the 5 depending on the matchup on OCCASION.

I just wish he played a lick of defense :smh:

What's up with everyone in here tryna trade Randle away... Just to move up one spot?

We don't even know how good he can possibly be yet.

Nick for Lance? And you think swaggy is a headache????

What the hell are you guys smoking

This. Whole thread is one big facepalm

My dream scenario:

We draft Towns # 2.
We trade 27 & 34 to get to 20. Draft Justin Anderson from Virginia.
Look to trade Ryan Kelly to a playoff team for a future 2nd if we need extra cap space, and if we make the next move I want, then we do need to dump some salary.
We sign Marc Gasol to a 4 year max. Have to sell Gasol on a team that will be young for his first year, but will be deep at the 4 & 5, so it will have a huge advantage on almost all teams, and can prolong his career. In his 2nd year of contract, we will have so much cap space with him, and 3 promising young players, that we could get a max player + fill an entire bench. KD sees Gasol, Towns & Randle and says????

Biggest problem is we will have a lack of depth in the wing positions. Just don't have the money to get Gasol, and field a deep perimeter team.

$4.1mil in cap space to either go for a backup PG or a starting 3. Backup PG would likely be more important. (Could add $451K by cutting Sacre or $315K by cutting Jabari Brown)
$1.7mil room exception to fill in final roster spot

PF: Towns (15) / Randle (27)
C: Gasol (32) / Towns (13)

*Tarik Black gets about 10 minutes per game, either at the 4 or 5, it would change from Game to Game. Come mid-season, possibly look to use him as trade bait, UFA in 2016, and not necessarily in need if we have those 3 for what his price may increase.

SF: ???? / Justin Anderson (13) / Swaggy (4) / Randle (3-4)

We'd probably have to patch work it again.

Wouldn't trust Justin Anderson playing too many minutes. Ease him in. If he proves he can play, get him more minutes.

Just not enough money to fill it. I'd love to see a Randle - Towns - Gasol lineup for a couple of minutes a game on teams that can't shoot 3s and force them to take all long shots to lessen deficits or extend leads. Would be tough to see how it works offensively, could be something we work at all season to try to get to work, if it doesn't mid way through, you scrap it. Not a big deal.

SG: Kobe (29) / Swaggy P (19) / Brown (11th man only plays when Kobe needs rest, or someone is hurt)

Kobe has to stay under 30 minutes, just to prolong him. Also sit out the 2nd game of every other back-to-backs (8-10 games). And occasional rest here and there.

Clarkson (26) / ???

With this team, I'd like Lin back because while he's frustrating, he's not a horrible backup, but he'll probably end up at $6-7 mil rather than the $4.1-4.5mil we'd have.

Team is really weak when it comes to wing depth. Would be just Swaggy & Anderson getting minutes. If Kobe goes down for an extended period of time, then it's chaos.

Still think the team would hover around .500 all year because they would be way too much to deal with down low. Do we make the playoffs? Probably fall short.

But I'd settle for Tobias Harris + Danny Green or Pat Beverley

^^john ireland would not approve of this.

(I'm on board fully, but would prefer just stickin with towns at C and pursue Fa'S elsewhere)

I don't think Gasol leaves.

But just the possibility of it with Towns able to move between 4 & 5. Would be :wow: for other teams to play.

Just the wing depth would be nonexistent. Would need to go find bargains, and vet mins and hope some spit, gum and sweat hold it together.

But if we're stuck with Randle & Towns at the 4 & 5. I'd still be happy.

Hell I'd be happy with Randle & Okafor.
