Seattle CEO to cut his pay so every worker earns $70,000

And this is why you don't give away ****. Hopefully other businesses take heed. People need to EARN their daily bread. Handouts stifle progression and breeds complacency. Something these bleeding heart super libs haven't grasped yet.

Go read the Times article they are quoting.

And you'll find gems like these:
-Some employees where mad that their raised weren't as big as others and got pissed off. Basically some childish "he got more cereal than me" steez

How in the hell is it childish? If someone was one of the best workers in tbe company, he won't get as big of a raise or bonus because less skilled and experienced workers are being given the money that could have went to him.

That isn't jealousy or spite. It directly effects his earning power.

-You told us? Maybe I missed it, quote your previous post in this thread spelling out why this will fail

-Your source is a known right-wing biased paper.

-This failed because of people's greed, and irrational fear. Some hated it and left, for others it was life changing

-Lastly your article tries to paint it as this is such a failure because dude as to rent out his house now. But they fail to mention that the CEO is getting sued by his brother, and those legal cost and what is pinching him

-Read the Times article. What is really hurting the company is the lawsuit from his brother

Dudes had no real reasons it wouldn't work, just sat and hoped that it wouldn't. No talking points, nothing. All I see this as is a learning opportunity for them to try again, but with better stipulations. But the folks left to get another job that pays same because they couldn't stand being paid close to what less skilled workers were? how do you not look into yourself and feel like a piece of ****?

If you guys think people are lazy now, wait til they're GUARANTEED 70k. No dambs given for sure

It's already happened. Since the recent $15 minum wage, employees are asking their employers for less hours so they could still qualify for welfare.

Resource? Because article have stated that since the increase in min wage that companies are cutting hours so that employees can still qualify for gov't assistance. They seen WalMart do it and was "I think they're on to something"

I'd rather make more money and less hours on a job, would give me more time to find a side gig.

This is ridiculous...a part of me just went conservative.

We finally get the $15 for a liveable wage. A wage that will cover your expenses and then some? And your reaction is to cling to public services????

Unless you're trying to feed a family of 4+ this is absurd...

Sooo what I'be gathered from that article is that people have gotten so used to the handouts that even with their raise they don't want to stand on their own feet?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I got out of the article.

Absolutely. This nation is jacked.

Wow that's utterly surprising to me. What on Earth is going on. I thought that once people got their livable wage they would go on to prosper. It's almost like the lifestyle of sucking on the public's teat has drained them of any motivation to be self sufficient. I truly cannot believe this is happening. So unexpected.

Perhaps of we made it $20/hr that would work better. Thoughts?

You guys underestimate government assistance. I personally hate it that people that are not well off can literally prosper just as much as the next person that is actually trying to make a good living. I know a girl that makes about $40k a year and got a new position for $50k but didn't want it cause she could lose her section 8 apartment. She lives in Oakland with her daughter and only pays $400 where as the rent she should pay is $3-4k. And it's not like the money she saves goes to her daughter's college fund. She is a compulsive gambler and goes out all the time. I think its a shame that a person that had a daughter by accident is living in a better condition than I am but again, that is what government assistance is for.

For some people, getting the assistance is worth it. U earn an extra $1000 and you lose out on $10k+ worth of assistance when u factor in SNAP, WIC, health insurance, Section 8, etc. I pay more for daycare than I do for rent and the spot my son is at isn't no super upscale daycare

But also considering the source, would expect them to only highlight that part of it.

$40k is low income if you are a single parent raising a kid. There are so many government funding for a women with that scenario but I think she only exploits that one. Hell, I got some sort of assistance when I first moved out but I was making like $38k and got an apartment for $800 (back in 2008) and it should have gone for $1k. If you find a apartment complex with a lot of decent sized units, they are opt to having a certain amount that are reserved for low income people. Of course qualifying isn't the easiest thing ever and if you do, living with that sort of income is super difficult. I would literally be on my last $20 bill the day before I got paid each 2 weeks. It was tough.

I know a girl that just capitalized in SF on a low income condo recently. She made $60k at the time and registered to get a brand condo in the Mission for like $400k rather than the $800k it's worth. The catch is in these scenarios is you can own the condo but when you sell it, you only can sell it for what you bought it for. So she qualified for this spot cause she is technically single with two kids. After she won the lottery system, she got a new job where she makes $90k now and her now boyfriend is living with her and is also helping on the mortgage. I think for the most part, she pays less than what normal people pay in SF for rent and now has money left over to spend it on her leisure life. Crazy.....her having two kids by accident literally gave her this opportunity.

You guys are taking a Fox News article as gospel? It basically said there's several workers at a nursing home who are gaming the system.

Brah Bernie would be disappointed :smh:

First, this happens with people on the margin all the time.

Folk turn down hours because they lose money based on how is covered EIC, some choose work less because they might jump into another tax bracket.

The rational thing to do is to get the bundle that gives you more.

Second, we have no idea how widespread this is or what is motivating this

So please don't fall for the play the right wing loves to use of showing you a few examples that piss you off and somehow paint the picture of that how everyone is.

For some reason I can't find the salary brackets for BMR (below market rate.....not low income) pricing. I saw this article though:

http://www.socketsite.com/archives/2014/06/defining-low-income-san-francisco-k-average-u-s.html

Remember, it's not that hard to qualify but it's super hard to actually be the one chosen to live in a BMR condo because so many people apply for it. Aside from having a limited salary (that article above says you can have $81k as one person and still qualify) you have to have a 5-10% down as well. That means you have to have at least $20k cash in the bank and I think certain loan officers won't accept $20k as a gift from an outside person. When they look at your bank statements and credit score, they want to know you had saved up for that money and had it sitting in the bank for a while. The idea is they want only responsible people that can pay for their mortgage on time rather than people that got $20k from someone and is using it to buy a place as an investment.

Just google BMR condos and you should find out what you need to do. You also need to take a class but that is literally an hour of your time wasted.

The downpayment is not a problem and I'm def below $81k, I'm going to look further into it though cause if I can't rent it out and can't sell it for more than what I bought it for than I'm not going to bother going through the trouble.

This happened before that raise. We're still taking the small subset of folks that abuse the system as the majority? punish the ones who want to be self sufficient? Ya'll actually read the article, grasped on the supposed employees doing this instead of the listed facts, that the numbers of those enrolled in the food program went down. A fox news link no less.
