It stems back to social economic issues in the island, mostly the older generation, the younger generation know wassup...my wife knows her roots and has no problem identifying with them, word to chopping off all her relaxed hair and embracing her beautiful natural hair texture

I know what it stems too. Still a joke. Go to Haiti or the minor outlying islands and call them white and get your *** beat. Even if the person you call "white" is actually half white and lightskinned don't even start that **** with them. Hell at least a decent portion of Cuba and PR consider themselves black but think of themselves as Cuban/Puerto Ricans before thinking of themselves as any color. It's only the DR that try to pull that "I'm not black" trash on such an overwhelming level (again, talking about the Caribbean here)
