Not into Jordans anymore?

1) The limited run of sought after shoes.. Having to troll the internet for shoes is a real downer.

2) More runs of good models. My head is still trying to wrap around Nikes concept of making less shoes, since they don't get commissions out of resellers..
 
I still collect but Im getting close to leaving Jordan.  Number one reason - the BS limited game that they play and trying to fight off bots and ATCs at a chance to give Nike my money.  Once I finally decide to leave, I wont come back
 
I don't collect anymore for a number of reasons. As I'm getting older, sneakers are becoming less important. They really don't add to my quality of life in any significant way. Yes, I still appreciate good designs and classics, but I have more important things to spend my hard-earned money on. And let's not get started on the increasing prices and decreasing quality. I do purchase a new sig here and there on deep discounts. The shoes they actually put forth effort into to perform on a basketball court can be had for less than $100 very easily. Furthermore, I'm not a fan of jumping through hoops just to spend my money. I smh at myself when I think about certain things I'd done to attempt to secure a pair of kicks (stand on line for an hour for a raffle, then another hour on another line, etc, driving around the city wasting gas)

Another reason I stopped collecting was a change in style/persona. Most Jordan's and other basketball shoes are gaudy to me. A good example, albeit not a Jordan, is my opinion on the Lebron XII. I enjoy looking at pictures, seeing the shoe in stores, but when I put them on my feet, I feel uncomfortable; which is why (also because I'm broke :lol:) I only have one pair.

What would make me collect again? I can't say nothing will. Maybe if I achieve great financial success to the point that I, nor my children's children have to worry for money, then I'd be going h.a.m. getting any and every thing that tickled my fancy.

If I do make a purchase now, it's either cheap/understated/tied to nostalgia.

Don't get me wrong I'll still cop A pair here and there, I just don't have the thirst for a lot that's scheduled too release this year.

Far as this year's release's I'm only after Hare VII's,Bordeaux,Aqua's, and curious on what these retro 7 N7 look like. 
 
Haven't stopped completely but expect am going to very soon.

Reasons for this:

1. The psyche behind sneaker collecting, hoarding, or impulsive purchasing In general is very scary and found it to be true in my case. I have decided to stop because of this. I won't go into details but I suggest others to look into it.

2. It's a waste of money.

3. I decided to stop being a consumer slave.

4. Did I say waste of money?
 
Another thing,

I realized that a part of me was into it because of the endless thrill of getting that next pair. Most of the time it didn't matter which pair ,and for some time I didn't even realize this.

All of this is toxic mentality which I couldn't continue with.

How can people not love when they drop all of the classic models year after year....3s,4s,5s etc. and everything they've thrown in in between. It use to be a lot fewer and far apart. Plus a lot of the generation that wanted all these pairs growing up didn't have the funds / weren't self sufficient then, and now are. That would be my answer to hype / thrill shoes these days. Growing up everyone I know was into 1 shoe or another, so its only right that once people get their funds up and grow up, they buy more shoes that they liked/wanted then.

I still like Jordans, but thats not to say I don't like other brands as well. At the end of the day I buy what I like, OG, or brand new, my main thing is... I don't buy any of these fluorescent looking, bright color based shoes. Not my style. More a subtle black white grey with accent colors.  Not knocking it, but to each their own.  I don't buy outfits to match individual shoes, i got my fits and i make the shoes work with the fits, and try to keep it neutral all around. I am not trying hard to be that LOUD person, I'm loud enough without the flashy colors.

You must be an 80's baby because that's exactly how I am. I can't stand loud color sneakers. When i do decide to buy a pair of retro Jordan's or retro nikes, I always aim for the OG colorway. Prime example, the Nike Air Command Forces. I like the black colorway they released, but I just can't see myself buying them because it's not an OG colorway, but to each it's own. As far as Jordan's, I buy what I like and don't feed into the hype. With the raising of these prices, I've been super selective of what retro's I purchase. I've been saying this for a while, but I really do need to cut back on sneaker purchasing overall. I'm 28 and i'm trying to work on pursing a career, so at this point, sneakers really should be the last thing on my mind.

I stopped because all these computer nerds use bots and it was getting out of hand. To make me gain interest again.......prolly some kinda crazy new colorway like all red 11 or something cool like thatv
 
One day my Jordan retro collection will be complete and I will be able to buy dope new balances or whatever I'm digging at the time. But for right now I'm still checking things off my list. Thank you Jb for the year of the 7s and releasing the hares and boreduex this year. That helped. But it don't help to get the new things come around like the 72-10s.
 
It is a hoarding/ impulsive issue. I noticed most of my purchases were impulsive because a few months down the road I was selling g a purchase to get the newest release. Also the pricing is out of control on these Jordan's. It's also the trill of the chase in trying to find a pair

I'm 32 and I grew up on Jordan's. I stopped buying shoes a few years ago, mostly cause I just grew out of it. I came back for the fire V's and only to find out it was damn near impossible to buy shoes at retail on release date.
 
I thought I was the only one on this boat....I think I've totally outgrown this phase in my life...I knew once the Columbias dropped that everything I pretty much wanted is in the closet. However, I knew there were few more on my list that I had in the past but I've been really looking forward to be re-released (French 7s, Columbia 4s, White/Met 5s) but when they became a reality to actually cop...I just couldnt bring myself to giving Jordan 190+tax of my money anymore. These sneakers are still sitting in some places but I just can't find it in me to give Michael Jordan my money anymore. I still enjoy the way they look, but I don't have the drive for the chase or anything anymore. I think Jordan burned me out the last few years with the frustration and anxiety to relive childhood moments. Some of these are nostalgic but eventually the nostalgia last a few moments. Maybe I can get myself to go out and get these Hare 7s.
I only bout OGs or colors pre 2008...
The new color schemes aren't for me
And the hassle to get a pair just ruined a lot...going thru too many hoops in person and online to buy sneakers...nah, im good

1. I'll break this down for you, sir:

a. I have not stopped collecting Jordan's. I am a very discerning consumer, meaning I buy what I like -and more importantly... want.  Thus, as a 30+ year-old who helped create the culture, I purchase (mainly) OG color ways.

b. The retro + color ways are, for the most part, garbage. I do not find anything appealing about the overwhelming majority of them. They are childish, and ugly. 

c. I don't really care to look like a child. Too many children running around with Js on, which stigmatizes them -to an extent. 

d. I aspire to purchase a home, and struggle to bring myself to pay $200 for a pair of kicks. I have too many as is. 

e. With that said, I will be purchasing the XI Citrus Lows, and the Chicago 1s. They are OG CWs, and I grew up on them. 

2. Quality over quantity.

a. Many are cheaply made, so quality products would help.

b. There are so many retro + color ways dropping that it is, in my opinion, cheapening the brand -despite their ability to charge more.  Too many pairs on the market. Everyone has a pair. Kind of whack, which is why I keep freshly bought pairs on ice for a loooooooooong time.

c. Back to the stigmatization. Js are associated with lowlives. Let's be honest, there are plenty of lowlives that where them. Look no further than the news stories about dudes getting shot and killed for a pair, people getting robbed, or strong armed by scum bags that want yo cut to the front of the line. I can go on and on, but you (should) get the point. 

3. I'm adding this. 

At my age, I find quality shoes more appealing. They are MUCH more valuable, stylish, and durable, because... they are made with better quality products (2) and therefore more justifiable to buy for the higher price point (1).

Graduated college, got a good-paying job and can now consistently afford jordans

The main reason is all the EMBARRASSING, FAKE, CHEAP color ways with horrible quality. Jordan brand is killing itself imo ... I feel like JB is borrowing color ways from all the fake websites.

The price! $200 for some cheap IVs is laughable.
 
First off , i'm 33 years old  , my first pair of jordans were the charcoal 7 in 1992  when i was 10  .

That's what got me in the basketball sports  , i played  until 1997 in my local team  but lost interest since it become more evident that i was more interested in partying and girls .... 

Up until 2002  i was living like an average kid would do  , but i remember clearly this day of December 2002 when i entered this basketball store and  what i found , the retro 7 charcoal .... till this day it completely changed my life  .

So basically the main reason was Nostalgic and i genuinely love basketball sneakers  , but now i think i 'm becoming tired .

The fact that it's so mainstream now  , it's an overdose , we are in 2015  , Michael stopped playing like 12 years ago .

It's the same **** over and over , my main goal was to obtain every shoes that i 've liked  as a kid , in 06-07  it was already complete but the thirst was still there ....

Then i started to realize  in 2010 that it was clearly a waste of money , it makes me almost an impulse buyer  , stock piling 

those box that i rarely open after purchase .... waste of money .  

In the end of 2011  i sold my entire "collection"  minus some pair i really liked  , yes i was free since then  .

I can't tell i stopped completely , i still need shoes  , i 'm still after  an 1996  Bred XI  in size 13.5   but it's not an obsession anymore .  

So yes it's possible to stop , not completely since the love will still be there but when you grow you realize ,  it was  a kid thing 

for me  trying to relive the past  .  

I have a passion for vintage Mercedes and it will be always the number 1 of my hobby   ,  i'll still have a soft spot for jordans 

but for now i'm over .

Repeatedly copping the same Jordan's to me is like trying to smash your ex every time you run into her at the mall. Yeah it's still some box, but nothing changed from the first time you had it. You put in all this effort just to leave disappointed and discovering why you left in the first place.

I think the problem has been stated many times so I am going to try not to repeat the issue.  

1) I was in college and the hype started after the Concords came out.  EVERYONE all the sudden who wasn't a sneaker head was now a sneaker head and wanted shoes.  

2) I worked at a shoe store and had a love for Jordans since I had gotten my first pair of Retro 13s at about 7-8.  I got a an ok discount at the store but not enough to justify dropping all that money every month.  

3) I have a good job out of college now.  However, that being said like someone else stated I cannot justify dropping $200 a month on shoes.  There are more important things that money needs to go to.  Equity in a house is worth far more than equity in Jordan shoes in my closet.
 
1. Im done supporting Jordan Brand because they are voluntarily becoming a parody of its past greatness. It starts at the top. Hipsters and resume padders turned a brand that was sport and innovation based into a soulless weekly cash grab exploiting consumers. Im tired of hearing the neo-capitalist, wanna be shark tank mindset of "its all business". Commodities and goods of generations that your grandparents, parents and even some of us grew up in used to have the backing of a quality finish, guarantee and appreciation for the purchase. That it what the understanding of being a business let alone a behemoth like Nike used to be about.

Now JB stinks of a greed from their financial advisors and investors. Nike has been printing money since the 70s  but yet they operate like a janky liquidator wanting to squeeze a penny out of every piece of lint and crumb. Jordans were always pricey but no way they would of survived or had consumer faith in the golden days if they introduced models at a $200 price point. Its really counterproductive to Michael Jordan intial vision for the brand. Its hard to believe but MJ actually addressed people who had a problem with his then expensive (but i wish they were again lol) $120-130 flagship models He specifically made the often clowned Team Jordans and Jumpman models at a lower price to allow more people to afford and take an interest in the brand. That creates/created trust and revenue growth not cashing out with a gimmick colorway every week. Yes JB is "gettin money" but the essence of the brand is beyond cheap and cliche now. Models that I used to stay up all night and dream about owning as a kid I now have and ironically avoid wearing. I recently came to the conclusion that my Olive 9s, Powder 10s, and Steel 10s are my personal signature shoes, my favorite sneaks and all the kicks I need as an adult for the time being. In the upcoming week im going to start parting out my collection with no reserve listings on ebay. Im going to use that money and invest it into a possible project car or small building on my property that I can tinker with for the summer.

2. Maroon VIs and a 1:1 copy of those OG Space Jams in the pic  in the 72-10 thread would bring me back. Then after that I would be gone again.
 
I think whenever you're passionate about something and you see it go to crap you just lose interest in it. The sneaker community, as I got older, just became a sea of parody. Jordan's became symbolic of everything that is wrong with sneaker culture. You see a lot of kids that don't even play basketball that will hoard them just because, or to make a measley 100 on a resell. You never saw that in the 90s, and as someone who grew up wearing them and remembers the golden age of walking into a foot locker and grabbing your size the week after the drop, I can't bring myself to fight with little kids over raffle tickets and bots. Plus there is so much other dope stuff coming from Nike id rather rock something more original and unique as opposed to bring a Jordan stan. Id like to read your paper, you gonna post it anywhere?
