ABOUT MECHA DE YALE: In 1969, a small group of Chicanos formed el Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA) de Yale to foster stronger ties within the Yale Chicano community. Over time, MEChA transformed from a predominantly Chicano political group to a pan-Latino activist organization that advocates for social justice issues affecting underrepresented communities at Yale and in New Haven. MEChA de Yale spurs social justice initiatives on and off campus through demonstrations, community gatherings, educational lectures, and cultural events. MEChA promotes the ideals of a just, free, and educated society. The organization currently focuses on higher education for Latino students, wage theft issues in the New Haven community, and the East Coast Chicano Student Forum, which MEChA de Yale hosted in April 2014.

Let me tell you why I personally support this. To me it's much more than awarding a kid money. To me it's giving them a push in the right direction. It gets kids moving. Although the club is not formally sponsored by Yale or anything like that it comes from a club of student who attend the school and it gives the members a chance to explain to the students that hey, I didn't have the money to pay for school but Yale covered x amount; so it's doesn't hurt to apply to whatever school you want to go to even if you feel that it'll be too much.

We can let the students know that there are people out there willing to help. Scholarships awarded all over the country. People here in their own community who are willing to help. That when they arrive to schools like this wether it be Yale, a state school, or a junior college they'll have people behind them. This will help them pay for applications and books, class materials... etc

So if you can donate anything at all it will help a lot! Happy 4/20 :pimp:

I don't support anyone undocumented in this country sorry, am I reading the title right???

So, this only helps Chicano students? Just asking...

Do you know what Chicanos are? Mexican Americans. Born here. That's what the club was started by but that's not who the scholarship tailors to. It 's meant for ALL undocumented students. The area here is full of undocumented kids.

Some scholarships and schools around here don't accept immigrants unless they are declared "international" and that's a lot of work and it's extremely discouraging.

There are a lot of undocumented Italian, puerto rican, and mexican kids here.

I don't support anyone undocumented in this country sorry, am I reading the title right???

A piece of paper doesn't judge you.
