What does it cost to open a fast food franchise? Wow at Wendy's and Panera Bread requirements

Doesn't Chik Fil A require you to work at a Chik Fil A for a year?

You have to have a lot of liquid asset. You have to be interviewed and selected. And they tell you where your location is.

i have like 5 subways within 5 miles lol. its ridic!

there was another story about subway francies on yahoo, read some of the comments. some were from franchise owners. one guy said after all said and done (rent, food, employees, etc) he was only making like 40K a year on his subway franchise, but that included him working hellllllla like almost everyday to cut one person that he had to pay. some other comments indicated to really actually be raking in that dough, you needed a few of them. I guess subway has no restrictions/boundaries on how many one can open in a radius thats why its common to see a lot. oh and it's one of the cheapest franchise to open too. I'm sure there are a lot of factors, but i hear/read more bad than good.

as for food trucks, when they were just starting out and it was only a handful, i definitely was for it! thought it was cool and fun. to find out where they would be, etc. dont even seek em out anymore. the prices they charge for the food items have become "pricey" almost to where i can go to a decent restaurant for the same if not a lil bit more where i can sit down and eat my food.
I thought you meant you owned 5 subways for a second.

one thing I noticed about subways is that the owner is often running it (in ny) and the ones where you dont notice an owner, is probably one of many owned by one person. get the hunch its not too lucrative of a business to own

Yeah it seems like a lot of subway franchisees get in it because of the lower startup costs compared to most alternatives

You have to commit to open like 10 subways at once to have an Subway franchise.

Unlike Mickey D's, all you need is 10k (used to be 5k) to open a Chick FIl A but you have no say on where it will be. The application process is hard, since you need so little to start they get thousands of apps and only 1 in your area a year.

Ive read you need at least a million to start. I dont know a ton about it but Ive looked into it some.

That's what I'm saying I mean who's got a million dollars laying around to invest

You'd be amazed. Our investor is ugly as hell and a foul bastard in general. Think lehey from trailer park boys and drives an old *** beretta. He's worth 20 something mil. You never know who has old money.

I had a family member who built up some franchise ownerships in the midwest. Years of work.. But when they came looking for a mandatory "upgrade", he was not up to spend upwards of $2 million of his own money for the renovations required to "get up to snuff".. It's a tough business fellas.

You are at their mercy.. They own you. They have you by the balls. As much as you think you're free, you are NOT.

Chick-Fil-A takes 65% of your profit. Most franchise companies take 8%-10% of gross sales...

Chick-Fil-A wanted my mother to own one. They told her that she can lease or needed 200k - 1mil.  That wasn't the show stopper...It was that she had to work there.

They wouldn't allow me to work while my mother was the financial front runner.  So she turned down the opportunity.

I manage a daiquiri shop that my parents own in Louisiana. Let me tell you, if the area is right, it is a cash cow. People will ALWAYS want a drink.

Easily grossed over 7 figures in the 3 years we've been open.

More importantly is the startup cost and profit margins

this is an interesting thread. the corner store game is what im curious about since i have 3 in a 3 block radius and 5 if you include two more blocks

Ive noticed every new Chikfila is built on a pad and never on its own land. Guess Chikfila is not into real estate.

I swear White Castle's appeal is only that they're not widespread.

If you've been around them for most your life, you realize it's trash.

That last part is a really really good thing. They have teams of people that research to ensure the likelihood of your franchise failing is lower. It's better than so many people who think 'corner x and y has good food traffic every time I get gas there, the spot is perfect for something'
