2016 Chevrolet Camaro - Convertible Revealed

I like what I see so far. It always seems like the competition is light years ahead of Chevrolet. Here we are speculating on teaser picks when the all new mustang GT has already been named one of Autoweeks best of the best finalists. The Camaro ZL1 was underpowered at launch compared to the Shelby Cobra, and Lester not even talk about the all new 2015 SS Sedan with only 415HP/415 Torque, numbers that ten year old Dodge SRT8s still eclipse.

Chevy has to step it up with their performance division cars and stop worrying about cutting into Corvette sales.

I know your not praising that new mustang GT that gets beaten by the cheaper and 3-year-older 5th gen 1LE on the track.

Ford tried so hard too with their PP and IRS upgrades. Chevy has removed themselves from the **** measuring contest that is the HP wars. They're focused on battling cars like the GTR and the 911 on the track.

6th gen is going to be ridiculous with the 200lbs weight difference and the LT1. That 20hp increase throughout the entire powerband on the alpha platform doe. :pimp:

I'm not praising the Mustang GT, just showing how far behind Chevy seems to always be compared to the other guys. Don't get me wrong, I've loved the Camaro all my life. I own a 67 Camaro that Ive been slowly restoring at a CamNelson-like pace.

I'm hoping this new gen really does set the standard for pony cars

people still drive these?

The Chevrolet Camaro was the bestselling muscle car in America for 2014, marking the 5th straight year that sporty Chevy has claimed that title, but it seems to go unmentioned that the Camaro is also the bestselling sports car in America.

Not surprisingly, the American muscle cars are the most popular sports cars in America, with the Chevrolet Camaro (86,297) leading the way, followed by the Ford Mustang (82,635) and the Dodge Challenger (51,611).

Here is the complete list of the bestselling sports cars in America for 2014:

1 – Chevrolet Camaro – 86,297
2 – Ford Mustang – 82,635
3 – Dodge Challenger – 51,611

THIS

GM has been making world class cars that that can actually turn for years now.

HP wars are cute and all, but GMs been flat out killing the blue oval and the Pentastar. Hell... they've been killing them for years

I love American cars and defend their poor handling all the time, but it's 2015, and consumer demands have changed. GM is the only one of the big 3 that seem to realize this and is currently making a variety of powerful cars that appeal to more than just the straight line driver. It's nice the new Mustang has IRS, but it's not touching anything GM is doing in the handling department.

And forreal GM BEEN killing the other 2 in the straight line department for decades.... From 74-92 Pentastar had NOTHING noteworthy until the Viper, and even then it wasn't until 05 that they had more than 1 rwd car in their lineup.... Ford has always had the Mustang and for a long time the Thunderbird and Lincoln Mark series... sure the Ford GT made a resurgence for a year and a half ... Meanwhile GM was cranking out Camaros, Trans Ams, 442s, GNXs, Monte Carlos, Corvettes, Caprice/Impalas and even Grandpas fwd Cadillac was faster than the competitions performance oriented cars.... Seriously... The Cadillac STS was still faster than the 10 years newer Mercury Marauder

GM's been focusing on well balanced, good handling performance cars. GM currently offers the CTS-V, ATS-V,Commodore/SS, ZL1, z/28, Z06/7... The only car from the other 2 that even competes is the 4th gen Viper ACR and hopefully this new GT350.

Sidenote: Ford has absolutely nothing to offer in the performance luxury segment. They need to quit *****footing and release a re-skinned Mustang as a new Lincoln Mark. Lincoln is a dying brand and while something like that may not sell in great numbers, it would make for great brand exposure. They could even expand the wheelbase and give it small rear suicide doors ie RX8 to pay tribute to the Continental.

And here's the handling-crutch that everyone uses to prop up their car comparisons.
You can throw all the magnets that can fit under these cars, but the fact is that the GM performance division has been producing underwhelming cars compared to the other guys from powerplants to the design.

 Handling crutch ?

Nah b

GM's offered the greatest variety of fast cars and good handling cars for ages. Ford only has the Mustang and aside from the Viper Mopar's been straight trash since the early 70s.

So you let the handling-crutch fall and prop your argument back up with pony war history. It's fine, you love Chevrolets. But your opinions don't change the fact that GM performance has been delivering underwhelming cars.

The auto industry is what are you doing now.

Dodge is covering the entire spectrum with both the Challenger and the Charger from V6 cruiser, to blown V8 supercar performance. And yes these overweight autos do turn, and turn very well.

That said, I'm hoping the 6th gen Camaro becomes a contender in the performance division.

Becomes a contender ? It's been a contender.

You seem to only be looking at HP numbers and not the whole picture. Cars like the Camaro and Commodore/SS are doing more with less HP. They're out powered by nearly 70hp, yet their acceleration times are a mere tenth of a second off their heavier Mopar counterparts. Factor in that the GMs handle much better and it's easy to see who's been making the superior vehicles.

Let's factor in design, and the fact that although they are doing more with less they are still tenths of seconds off. Opinions don't stand against the Facts, even with crutches guy. I went Mopar long ago, and will do the same with my next car purchase if Chevrolet doesn't improve.

 I find it hilarious that you keep referring to handling as a crutch, as if it's not the benchmark of a good performing vehicle.

Keep on benchracing m8. If you aren't a professional driver, those tenths of a second mean nothing.

These guys test cars for a living and could barely get the Hellcat to crack a 5 second 0-60.

Power is great, but it isn't everything. There's a good reason the Camaro outsells the Challenger almost 2:1.

the challenger looks like a kitchen matchbox on wheels to me

So a couple of test guys not being able to get the hellcat to spec 0-60 makes the 707 monster a poor peforming vehicle. Your opinion is your opinion champ. I don't test cars for a living and I'm not a professional driver, which may explain why there's no way I'd choose anything from the bowtie boys over the hellcat with the models both companies have to offer.

And as far as Camaros outselling Challenger almost 2:1, it's simple. Camaro is has the lower sticker price also and depreciates much faster.

I never said it was a poor performing vehicle, but if the average consumer thinks he's ever going to be seeing sub 4 second acceleration times, he's greatly mistaken.

I'm not quoting used car sales figures. How does the Camaro depreciating faster pertain to more people buying them new ?

More people buy it because it's a better more balanced car.

So basically nothing happened from 82' to 2010    Cot damn those were ugly

'85 I believe is when the IROC came out, I want to say '87 was the switch to fuel injection
New body in '93, LS engine in 1998 or 1999.

The LS engine was destroying everybody for a while.
No Camaro from 2002-2009
Best selling Car after that.

So yes, things did happen with the Camaro.

Yea, I don't understand the Camaro depreciation point? Even though they hold their value pretty well.

GM is the king of performance. They're competing with the GTR and Euros.

This Camaro is going to be :pimp: I just know it.

GM tip the end!

yup.

I've been going down to Laguna Seca a couple times with my 1LE this year, and it's funny how pissed off the m4, 911 and miata dudes get when a $37k 3800lbs car is kicking their *** on the track.

 i love this damn car.
pimp.gif
im on the verge of going all in with my track setup(cam, heads, rollbar, 6pt harness etc), but the 6th gen has me a lil apprehensive.
