ROOTS Getting a Remake

Looks like it's gonna be updated and superbly acted. In down for a watch.

This is something that needs a remake.
as long as lifetime or wendy williams has nothing to do with it im ok with it
Is this Wendy Williams hate or was there ever a rumor she would produce, act in or direct something like this? :nerd:

Just seems like an odd name to mention that you're opposed to.

just re-air the original
Nah, when's the last time you watched the original? Joint looks dated at the least for reasons why there should be a newer versio.

as long as lifetime or wendy williams has nothing to do with it im ok with it

+ Tyler Perry
100% agree here. **** that ****.

The notion of Kevin Hart being a slave:lol: , dude is shorter than most cotton plants.

Who said he'd be in th le field? He'd probably be in the house
He don't got the complexion for the protection.

He'd have to straight up be a combo of Ruckus and Stephen from Django.

i just know you posted some dumb **** without actually thinking about it....

Showing the history and struggle of what we went through is not an attack on blacks....
You would probably prefer the movie industry be more like japan, and act like they never did anything wrong and everything has been honkey dorey since the 1800's

I just said I'm not complaining.

You know I don't shy away from a discussion.

Last question...

How many struggle movies do you need to see pertaining to slavery?
There's absolutely no limit on it. Endless stories to be told during that time period that lasted a few centuries in America alone. The amount of movies made about slavery to date are only the tip of the iceberg.

As long as the movie has great acting, a good story, and is well executed keep making them.

Early talk of the nat turner movie is its brutal and amazing.

Written, directed and starting Nate Parker, dude spent the last few years devoted to making this movie.

Got it DVR'd. The casting looks excellent. Looking back at the older replies about Kevin Hart, Tyler Perry and Wendy Williams is

Snoop Dogg slams ‘Roots’ remake, calls for boycott in profanity-laced video

Hip-hop star Snoop Dogg has a bone to pick with The History Channel over its new "Roots" miniseries.

The 44-year-old rapper lampooned the network — and the entertainment industry in general — for continuing to churn out TV shows and movies that detail the atrocity of slavery.

"I'm sick of this s---. How the f--- are they going to put 'Roots' on, on Memorial Day?" he began in a profanity-laced Instagram video. "They going to just to keep beating that s--- into our heads about how they did us, huh?"

He then disapproved of other period dramas such as WGN's "Underground" and the Oscar-winning 2014 film "12 Years a Slave," lamenting the entertainment industry for continuing to show "the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago."

"When you all going to make a motherf------ series about the success that black folks is having?" he asked. "The only success we have is 'Roots' and '12 Years a Slave?'"

The "Drop It Like It's Hot" rapper finished his plea by vowing not to watch the new "Roots" remake and implored his fans to boycott it with him.

"Let's create our own s--- based on today," he concluded. "How we live and how we inspire people today. Black is what's real."

The new "Roots" miniseries — a remake of the acclaimed 1977 series of the same name — is set to premiere Monday at 9 p.m. E.T

:smh: Snoop is a flipping idiot.

Snoop is really a walking case of weed actually having negative effects on the brain

Yeah I've been so eager to catch it. Glad to see it's being given a theatrical release and not just film festival.

I question those who find offense with what Snoop had to say...

Enough slave ****. That is not the entire history of black people. Period
Ahh, so we should just do away with it and forget about it. It's apart of our history. I question those who want to disregard it as if it never existed.

Roots is not just a slave mini-series though, it shows how slavery effects a black family over generations. Will be watching.

Bunch of brand new negroes in here.

So sensitive. Can't even begin with all the ignorance and assumptions but I will say if you really think material revolving around slavery being made suggests its the entirety of black history you're not smart.

More critical thinking, less emotional reacting. Especially when yall just *****ing about something you won't watch while you sit on your *** and watch something else.

Also  @ Snoop acting like he give a **** that it came out on memorial day.

The thread with black men being okay with white people calling them n******s clearly shows that we haven't had enough slavery movies.

And where's Snoop deep and profound contribution to black life in cinematic form?

The same people complaining about the subject manner are the ones that never support a contemporary black movie at the theaters.

blanket assumptions much?

No, I'm not making blanket assumptions. The box office tells the tale. The line at the bootleg man tells the tale.

If you are a person that supports black movies in the theater, thank you.

I can't think of another people that is gets upset when their ancestors are represented.

Whats the pattern here?

Lincoln was 2012
Django was released in 2012
12 years a slave was 2013

its been 3 years since a big blockbuster film about slavery has been made. I looked at the listings and I don't see a pattern

This is just a classic case of Hollywood remaking classics because they lack innovation.

On the flip side, remaking it would be great tbh.

I've never heard the Jews disregard the Holocaust as if it didn't exist nor native Americans with colonialism, but we got cats wanting to disregard slavery. Talking bout they tired of hearing bout they ancestors history. They seem to have forgotten how long the enslavement of blacks was and how many people it affected and how it still affects us until this . Cats seem to have also forgotten how many black heroes have risen up out of this atrocity. But they don't want to hear about this "slave ****" . So the likes of Alexandre Dumas, Harriet Tubmans, Nat Turner and Abraham Gannibal should all disappear from history, cause they stem from this "slave ****" of which they don't want to hear about. :rolleyes Cat's is lost.

That's cuz in comparison the Native and Jewish communities are pretty unified. Black community still fractured.

Or you could dismiss these ppl as only a few ignorant decrying our history as a minority within a minority.

Nowhere did I ever insinuate such a ridiculous notion. Slavery is a part of our history, and if anything, it infuriates me how we are always told "to forget" and to "get over it"...yet we are similarly told to "never forget" Pearl Harbor and 9/11, etc. but I digress.

I take umbrage with the fact that the only stories deemed worthy of a major production budget are solely the subservient, victim roles. Where is the diversity? I've seen countless slave tales...fortunately I've been able to read a lot and self-educate post secondary education. As a result, I've learned so much more than the limited garbage I was taught in schools. Or that I constantly see in the movies.

Representation matters whether anyone wants to admit it or not. All we are taught in school about Black history is that we were slaves, we refused to sit in the back of the bus, we created peanut butter and made a device to pick cotton faster. We never hear the other stories. We never see the movies about Black Wall Street. Or about how the wealthiest man in the history of the world happened to be Black. Or any stories period about a rise to prominence, or the rise and fall of anyone who ever mattered before. When you are a little kid and you only hear what they teach you in school, and you realize that we don't actually own anything (business, corporations, etc.), and you turn on the tv and radio and it's the same ignorance but it's making these dummy artists rich AF...you probably won't go around believing that you can aspire to achieve anything you want. So many in this life get stuck believing that their options are none. "The streets is a short stop, either you're slanging rocks, or you got a wicked jump shot." Individuals have to be TAUGHT that they have potential...it's not an inherent trait in human beings. And it most certainly isn't as a Black man.

Bottom line, it would be nice to see some other portrayals of Black history. And I believe that is the point Snoop wanted to make, even if he made it in an abrasive way

Then get out there and start doing it yourself.

You waiting on Hollywood to do it for you?

Even worse that somebody has to tell Snoop this :smh:

Anyway, another great showing in this 2nd part tonight.
