For reasons not related to boxing, why is Mike Tyson loved and Mayweather hated?

Here's my answer. Floyd flaunts his money and there are a lot of people struggling to make ends meet out here. Aside from beating women.

There are plenty of successful Black people that don't flaunt their money and aren't hated. Jordan, Tiger Woods, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Magic Johnson, Shaq. These are all black very successful and not hated.

Tyson is humble now, what's there to hate. He admits that he is a flawed person and is basically trying to be the best person he can be.

Yet this man...

is treated like a Demi-God.

By who?

Can't compare DB's celebrity to Floyd's...

By social media and young men, hell even a lot of women.

Really the point I was making with DB, is that DB is known for his public persona as arrogant, flashy and filthy rich, and that is the same with Floyd. We can't say on the one hand that Floyd is hated for being filthy rich, arrogant and flashy with it because people are struggling, when DB is praised for the same traits.

Edit: For the record DB has approximately 8m followers, while Floyd has 6m on IG.

Floyd tried to be humble, likable, etc.

When he was Pretty Boy Floyd, and was a more aggressive fighter, the general public didn't give a damb who he was, and no one was saying it was because he beat women.

They just didn't care.

Another thing that might add to it is that globally, mike tyson is also a much larger celebrity than mayweather. People around the world would be able to identify mike tyson in a heartbeat. Mayweather not so much. I would imagine he's probably one of the top 5 most famous & recognizable living celebrities in the world.

So what?
Floyd doesn't owe them a penny, how is that his problem??

Crabs in a bucket I swear

So what? Its shows a lack of class. There's nothing wrong with not liking someone because they have no class.

Crabs in a barrel? I guess if you think people have to like someone solely because they are good at what they do regardless of their character.

Everyone who doesn't like OJ is a crab in a barrel with that logic. One of the greatest RBs ever.

I have no idea who this guy is. Who is he?

some trust fund baby that plays poker all day and throws hookers off roofs. he's a tool that's only famous because he was born into money.

I just hate Mayweather because of the way he boxes. Yes I know it's effective and smart, but it's not entertaining. Outside of boxing, I really don't give a damn and I can respect his hustle. But like I said, I hate the way he fights and talks so much crap.

throw hooker's off roofs? nah  i'd be mad lowkey if i had that bread. have a bunch of women come over and screw around, start up some scholarship funds, but nothing reckless or od.

Most people don't like arrogance. People really don't like when you're arrogant and filthy rich. People really REALLY don't like when you're arrogant, rich, and they can't do a damn thing about it :smokin

Add being black to that as well.

Because Floyd hasn't gone through that same process(180) of becoming the 'approachable big black guy' that Tyson has.

Cause America hates successful black men that brag about it. Wall Street guys cheat on their wives, beat their wives, talk about their riches publicly, steal and kill in some cases and Hollywood makes movies that portrays them as cool yuppies you should root for. Let a black man do the same and he's a "thug" aka the new way white folks call them *******.

floyd is a women beater, 5 separate women/cases

i think that in itself pretty much explains why he's hated, remember when chris brown beat rihanna? people buying and then burning his cds and protesting outside the record company who distribute his stuff, and even to this day he is hated by the general public

i dont think it has to do with him being black, women beating is universally looked at as a heinous crime, and especially if youre a pro boxer

I'm not gonna say it's only race for the reason people have hated on Floyd when he has serious issues. His attitude towards the world only exemplifies it but there have been plenty of white athletes who were convicted of domestic violence and never got the hate. Race does play a huge factor in him being hated. They thought the little Asian guy would beat him but he won and now they gotta deal with the fact he's never lost.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree, but outside of the impressionable, who's looking up to DB? Personally, I think he's loathed. Not to Floyd's level bc they are on different levels of celebrity, but for flaunting a lifestyle, both guys have a following.

*For Floyd, I'm talking about those who will cape for him for things he does outside of the ring. In the ring, what can you say? One of the best to ever do it...

DB, on the other hand....what's he known for?

I'm shocked that so many people worship dude.

All I see when I look at him is a lame.

bro i got some buddies that i occasionally hang out with and duddes always discussing him like " yo did you see what he posted on ig last night? dude is so awesomeee!!"

needless to say i regret spending time with them

Random, but related. Remember Powerballin?

I always thought Floyd got off light in terms of public backlash for beating women given his popularity. Which seems to be opposite of what a lot of posters ITT are saying, that he's being targeted unfairly/he got more backlash. It never seemed to be a big story line or ever a big part of his media narrative, it was always just a sidebar which is surprising to me. I thought it would catch more wind given the amount of attention he gets.
