THE LEBRON 13 THREAD *Elites released**Command Force 6/11/16

Well how long do you expect it will take for Nike to crash and burn as a result of KW's departure? Do tell do tell...

It isn't only about West, but also the three designers,
Phil Knight stepping down,
Humphrey leaving,
Under Armour and Sketchers.
Oh yeah, and the fact that Nike's shoes are getting too expensive for what that are offering.
220 is too much.
As I figured, KW's departure doesn't really mean anything.

if nike had no sponsored athletes, theyd crash and burn

this...and if you underestimate LBJs contribution to this jam, you are fooling yourself.

OAN

KW departure may have not been a big blow for nike. but its not about his departure as much as it is about his arrival at adidas. his presence at adidas has been a big success for that brand and a HUGE acquisition in the free marketing dept

in other words...the same formula nike used to get itself back in the position it was in the early 2000s w/ limited shoes and free publicity is the same thing adidas is doing right now

I agree KW's going to Adidas was good for Adidas, but its a non factor to Nike as their consumers didn't leave with him. Maybe a handful of Stans, if that, but dat about it.

Their consumers didn't leave with him.
Small thinking.
West created new consumers, those who knew nothing about LeBron, Kobe, nor KD's shoes at Nike.
They don't even know or care about who Mark Parker is, until West told them at the concert.
Nobody saw Nike on the radar when Jordan signed either.
Many regrets behind that.
People who understand business never use the term "stans".

THIS. Nike is the big dog now but won't be forever. Adidas, Under Armour, Skechers, Brandblack...are making moves right now. When I was a kid Adidas was Nike...the juggernaut who could seemingly do no wrong, we all know what happened over the years. I have no doubt Nike will get overtaken at some point. The question is when and by who?

Of course they can't rid of all their signature athletes...they would have to replace them but they don't need any one athlete.

Also it remains to be seen if Kanye can sell shoes in large quantities.

Nike hasn't retro one LeBron, Kobe or KD yet. The retro of those sneakers 10 years from now will overshadow whatever those other brands are doing. None of those other brands have the backlog Nike does basketball wise.

They have no retro power to compete. Rose, Howard, Lillard, Wall won't ever carry the weight LeBron does sneaker wise. UA only has Curry. It'll take years to build up their brand. Meanwhile Nike will continue to eat and build on what they already have.

The basketball competition is over folks. Nike has won.

You are expecting one of those names on the Nike roster to be as large as Jordan is.
That is what it is going to take, in order for one of those retro's to make a mark as Jordan's shoes do.
This is in regard to the marketplace.
MOM rules the retail world.
Not sneakerheads.
They, do not run anything but Nike Talk.

That's the thing. Nike doesn't need them to be as large as Jordan. The other brands need that guy. I think a lot of people are underestimating LeBrons popularity. Adidas, UA and whoever else will be lucky to get a sig athlete on LeBrons level, let alone MJ.

they didnt leave, they diversified...taking a small portion of nike's business with them. every dollar spent on adidas is a dollar not spent on nike.

nobody here can predict what the climate will be in 10 years. but under armour, adidas etc etc are doing much better than they were 5 years ago. funny how these two companies are now "headlined" by 2 of the biggest nike mistakes in recent history... not signing stephen curry and allowing KW to walk.

in addition, this harden thing w/ adidas has to work. i wouldnt be surprised if they brought out all stops for the beard. lets see what happens.TBC

Where I live people buy Nikes more than anything. I work at a shoe store and sell more nike than anything else with no salesmanship involved. Customers just want nike, whether jays or air max WRIGHTS, the swoosh has costumers in every submarket of sneakers. Globally known, one of the most recognizable brands. Not gassing them up, but ppl follow nike on twitter and pushing their tweets to their phone. Like on some check for flyknit racer tweets before they text back shorty . I don't see anybody following adidas besides ye Stans and them corny dudes who hopped on the pharrell superstars but them the same ones who started wearing that hat too so that's them right there.

Basically I sell adidas at my store when the customer only wants to spend $50 and I talk em into the samoas for $64

If the shoe fits. "stans" was used as Mb term, nobody is in a board meeting here. Adidas was the street wear brand to wear in the 80s but no more. The yeezy hasn't jumped over the JM contrary to what he thinks. My point was the new consumers KW created, in your words, didn't stop buying nikes as a result of KWs departure. Nike also owns converse and the Chuck is probably the most recognized sneaker on the market today.

idk if harden is big enough to be a top seller of shoes, if the warriors don't make it back to the finals no one is gonna care about curry's ua shoes minus those that are looking for something diff, harden is marketable but can he move a $150+ shoe from adidas? i doubt it, wall had a great performance shoe but few bought it without steep discounts, if nike's big 3 are being bought at discount than everybody's shoe that isn't limited is being bought at steep discount, and even the limited stuff is being bought at discount, then add in back catalog and the only semi retro selling shoe from adidas is the crazy 8

i'm with you...

but if they design a dope shoe for harden, along with his marketability and the fact that he will be a perennial MVP candidate and adidas might have a winning combination. plus they have 200M invested in him. they better go all in.

they dont really have to be a top seller. all they have to do is compete and be a viable option on and off court.

anything better to discuss right now?

if nike didnt miss the buzz KW created, why are they so consumed w/ trying to re-create lightning in a bottle with KW'ish colorways on shoes and with the victor cruz shoe. its not the money...money from the yeezy was a grain of sand on the beach in the grand scheme. it was the buzz/hype/free marketing. all of that went to adidas. now nike is trying to create the next best thing.

Kanye may give Adidas some hype and prestige, but in terms of sales, his product is really just a drop in the bucket, and the brand is struggling in N.A.

From ESPN's story on Harden signing:

Adidas has been struggling in the United States. Last year, Under Armour passed the company as the second-largest apparel seller behind Nike, and Adidas has less than a 3 percent share of U.S. basketball shoe sales compared to Nike's more than 90 percent, according to market retail tracking firm SportsScanInfo. In the first six months of 2015, Adidas sold fewer shoes in the U.S. than Skechers and New Balance.

Small thinking has just shrunk.
You are always in the board room.
Critical thinking.
Be the business, all the time.
There are people who do not know anything about Nike outside of Jordan.
They are the people who do fashion, and think that high top hoops shoes are made for the winter.
They never bought Nike.
They are moms who wonder why their kids do not like the shoes on sale, because then you can buy more than one pair.
Nobody smart has stated that West has overcome Jordan.
Smart money states that West has a hand in a burgeoning new market that Nike missed out on.
Pass the peas.
I don't pretend to be in a board room. Your credibility took a hit when you stated nobody heard of nike until Jordan, simply not true.

They're cashing in on the buzz or hype KW created. Which is what Adidas hopes to do at some point.

What adidas shoe gets off street wear wise besides the pusha t joints? 3% percent of the basketball market?? And now if I want the yeezy adidas gear I got to drop a stack? Sheesh.

Best marketing was having the Kardashians wear em and plug them to their millions of viewers, jumping out of Mercedes trucks and **** with the newest yeezy on their feet tmz all over em. That and kanye himself wearing them was probably butterflies in the stomach for adidas, but still, ain't nobody checkin for em.

But lebron 13s look promising based on the silhouette. Remind me of like the xx9
