All Things Sports Media Thread!!

Simmons has always been a cornball to me. I guess I get why people like him but I never understood the appeal. Always came off as a kid that got picked on too much and developed a complex as a result.

His basketball analysis isn't that groundbreaking. I read some of his big book of basketball and some of his reasoning for things just seemed dumb and blatant homerism.

Lebatard got **** on lock right now
IDK what you mean about the complex though, he is a pretty chill dude.  Part of Bill Simmons' appeal is that he's not trying to be all macho like normal sports talk radio.  I can't stand how seriously those guys take themselves.

He doesn't yell and be macho but he's pretty smug and arrogant and he definitely takes himself seriously even if the presentation comes off as more chill compared to Golic and Kannel yelling. I don't do sports shows in general outside of Dan and Bomani. Used to like Truehoop but it's become a clown show now.

True Hoop's is trying too hard to broach topics that don't relate to sports.

Talking about TV shows and pop culture etc. Just something they're not good at IMO

They're a wannabe Lebatard show now and a lot of those dudes are cornballs when not talking basketball. Also it's disgusting how thirsty they all are for Kaleigh.

Still want to know how Big Wos is on that **** dude is the biggest cornball out of all of them, never seen someone in sports media laugh at their self more than him.

Simmons has never purported himself to be some sort of groundbreaking analyst. He analyzes the NBA more from a fan's perspective and focuses on historical context. That's how he became popular. He never really gave analytics much of a thought until the last five years, or so. Also, he admitted to Bob Ryan that TBOB is the book he wished Bob Ryan had written because nobody could tell the history of the NBA better than Ryan. But he knew it would never happen, so he gave it his best shot.

As for blatant homerism, the only indefensible one is Cousy ranked at #21. His reasoning is pretty absurd. That being said, Simmons has said recently that the book is already dated because of advanced metrics and how the NBA has changed so much in such little time.

I like Bill Simmons, he's a smart insightful guy who has some really good takes on things, but his Boston homerism is way over the top for a guy with a national platform like him. I listen to his podcast and its 30+ mins of Patriots talk, it's almost like listening to a local Boston radio host. Combine his Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox homerism with his Lakers hate (Yes, I'm a Lakers fan) can make him tough to listen to sometimes.

HBO and The Ringer's Bill Simmons brings on author Chuck Klosterman to discuss Kobe's storytelling in 'Musecage' (5:00), the Westbrook-Harden MVP race (15:00), Oklahoma City's talent disparity (22:00), the obsession with the triple-double (28:00), Devin Booker's 70-point outing (32:00), Carmelo's legacy (48:00), Gonzaga's mid-major dominance (1:00:00), the Final Four (1:12:00), and Kentucky's perfected recruiting pitch (1:16:00).

Good. Him calling fs1, fake espn is great. And undisputed, first fake.

I do hope they somehow set up that arm wrestling tournament. Would be lit and so entertaining.
