Damn man... came out of nowhere.
Yep.

Was shocked when I got the alert on my phone.

Seeing Hannah Storm struggling to break the news was rough.

Second time she had to announce a colleague's death on air.

I remember Saunders mostly for his work on Sports Reporters.

He was a real one, RIP..

Does anyone know if John was sick?
There's been no official word yet, but I was reading on reddit that he wrote an upcoming book about his battle with depression.
In Playing Hurt, a leading figure in the sports world—the quintessential “man's man,” who seems to have it all—confesses his constant battle with depression and how it nearly cost him his life. John Saunders—stellar athlete and respected sportscaster—welcomes readers into the heart of his desperate struggle against depression: from insights into the illness's root causes to the nature of modern treatments, from both a medical and cultural perspective. His story unfolds as so many of our lives do—among family, friends, and colleagues—but it also peers into places we don't often discuss openly—psych wards and hospitals. Here is the honest story of a public figure facing his own mental illness head on, and emerging far better off for his effort.
We don't want to speculate, of course, but that stuck out to me.

This Bill Simmons Vertical Pod is great.

The fact that we don't get to see him with Lowe and Van Gundy is sad

Saw that fs1 is making their own first take show to air at the same time as first take. The only good part of the show is gonna be Joy Taylor bae as the moderator. The ultimate troll fool will be yelling at his co-host shannnon sharpe.

Some new updates:

Report: Doug Collins to leave studio and call NBA games for ESPN

According to The Big Lead, Doug Collins will work 25 to 30 games. He’ll most likely work with either Dave Pasch or Ryan Ruocco on most games, but there will be times when he’s assigned to work with his 2000, 2004 and 2008 NBC Olympics partner Mike Breen to spell Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy.

With Collins leaving the studio, it appears that ESPN will be once again revamping its studio crew. The studio has seen plenty of different combinations over the years and will see another new analyst coming in.

NBC announces Al Michaels to call Sunday and Thursday Night Football, Mike Tirico to host SNF

NBC has officially announced the news that leaked out in the last week of the Olympics, that Al Michaels will do double duty this season and call Sunday and Thursday Night Football. Mike Tirico will be the on-site host for Football Night in America on Sunday, while Bob Costas will host on Thursday.

ESPN announced last week that Stan Verrett will host college football Saturdays on ABC this fall, filling the role of the late John Saunders who had held the position on ABC’s college football studio set since 1992. He will remain Los Angeles-based and continue on SportsCenter.

ESPN’s rising cable fee is now up to over $7 per subscriber per month

ESPN now charges distributors a monthly fee of $7.21 per subscriber, and another 90 cents for ESPN2, according to SNL Kagan, an offering of S&P Global Market Intelligence. The cost for ESPN is up more than 120 percent from 2007, when it was $3.26 per subscriber. For comparison FS1 is around $1.00 per month, Fox News $1.41 and CNN is 71 cents.

I miss Bill and actual NBA writers/reporters on the podcasts like Lowe, Stein, Windhorst, etc. Now it's just his friends shooting the **** about the NBA, which is cool but can get old.

The Ringer NBA podcast is so bad and awkward. Tsarks really shouldn't be the guy. I almost feel bad but he's just not good.

Simmons and Lowe was great. As was the 3 man weave with bucher and stein.

Haralabob is his best NBA guy now but he doesn't have him on all that much.

Nah, Harlabob is a pompous *** who thinks his poop don't stink. He acts like he knows more about basketball than everyone else, and he'll let you know about it.
