Remember, Turner owns Bleacher Report. He can do NBA TV easily. Problem is he's on the west coast and NBA TV is in Atlanta.
As for the ESPN entities he's attached to, they don't need him to keep churning out 30 For 30
docs. I'm not sure how much input he's even had on that lately. Also, it's very clear that ESPN wouldn't let him do certain subjects and he seemed to be a little irritated by that. Grantland is definitely going to fall apart. That's his deal and everything runs through him. All those writers are going to bail, either to the main site (Lowe, Barnwell, etc.) or to other entities. I don't see it lasting past next year.
Ultimately, this is all a good thing. A change of scenery for Bill is going to be awesome and I'm very curious to see where he lands. And, it's not going to be a new, independent site. He's definitely latching on to BR, SBNation (which is Vox), or something. He needs resources for what he likes to do.
