Arts and music classes vs Core subjects classes in schools

Creativity isn't unique or something people are gifted with. Being creative is finding solutions that most haven't seen or neglected, and obsession (hopefully a healthy one) develops way more solutions.

Interest is way more important to a young person than the idea of being creative, or educated for that matter.
A motivated and interested child can achieve much more than someone gifted and we have always said this.

Also it's important to allow a child to work through fear and failure. Most classes ain't teachin that, but sports and girls do. A competitive environment is necessary. And let's be real, most classes and schools don't help develop theidea of competition. Especially with this everyone gets a trophy stuff, anyway..

To me, the argument of what classes to keep is a bit silly bc the idea of any standard has failed and continues to fail. No doubt basic skills are necessary, but knowing intergrals and derivatives just to measure a nation's piece size is silly, and honestly should be offensive.

Brah you all over the place.

You want to foster creativity in a competitive environment? So then who judges the winners and losers? Without standards it is just up to the teachers discretion then?

And I would think many would argue is the point of teaching is making sure everyone learns the material well. At is the core philosophy of the American style of educating.

I lived in a different country there you only took 2 sets of standardized test. One to get into HS and one for College. And trust me, the buckle you seat belts, try to keep up kids, winners and losers system as it's issues.

Once a kid gets behind, it is nearly impossible to catch up, especially if that kid's parents don't have the money to pay for extra lessons. I literally saw kids being doomed and written off by like the 3rd grade. So if you think the a competitive environment is gonna solve everything, it seriously think you're underestimating the new issue that are gonna pop up.

----- And if we're gonna worry less about how college ready our kids our, and their Math and Science scores. Then we as a country need to figure out what these kids are gonna do after graduation. Teaching how to cook and budget when they can't find good jobs seems like an extremely lazy answer

Making trade school, online education, and community college a cheap and appealing alternative along with teaching life skills in my opinion a better option. But lets keep it #1HUNNA, we don't wanna pay for that.

How was that all over the place?

1. Someone has to present something appealing to a kid.
2. Facilitate that kids interest
3. Teach em whatever they needs to develop in that field, subsequently the stuff has to learn for a test (basic reward system).
4. Introduce kid to a competitive environment/community, since ur knowledge and influence ultimately isn't enough.

I basically put the plot of Karate Kid.
And as a community, even an online one, we can find all these things, not just the moms, teachers, schools, ect.

How about this, keep core classes and fund arts and PE by cutting standardized testing.

I think the argument for teaching "life skills" is moot because that's exactly what the core classes do. You learn to write papers and do basic math which allows you to critically analyze basic instructions (ie taxes, build a bicycle, etc). I may be biased because I'm STEM but I think that with how available information is these days, it is not important to emphasize these things to the youth.

What's a real problem is the lack of creativity and judgment that the kids have once a rigid rule isn't in place and that's what I think the arts give. I've failed every single art class I've taken until I got to college. Countless hours of just doing **** over and over for it to only be "wrong" was great for building up a thicker skin for failure. I used to play piano and when you're playing a piece and you hit the wrong keys and get over the urge to stop abruptly and start over is a powerful thing. I'm not saying it works for all kids but having creative outlets like that help temper your mind for other activities.

To me all of these subjects are the same. Math and art aren't different. Wave propagation through a string fixed at 2 boundaries is beautiful no matter if it's math or music. They're both needed outlets of expression. I wouldn't want to imagine living a life where I was forced down one path when my true calling could have been on the other.

Brah that is a mentorship program. What we're talking about is reforming the curriculum.

Mr. Miyagi didn't have 30-120 Daniel Sans.

Brah those are what extracurricular activities are for. You can't have that as the meat and potatoes of the education system
