College Summers

Finished my last final the other day and now I'm on a much-needed break after a rough semester. This may be the last real "summer" I have since I'm graduating next year. It might not exactly feel like one once I start my full-time internship in a little over two weeks.

Thing is, almost anything compared to last summer will fall short. Last summer everything seemed to go right, it was relaxing, and I was the happiest I'd been in a long time. I don't want to live the next few months solely trying to match it, but I know subconsciously I'll compare the two. Also, some of my friends will be out of town for large parts of summer or working full-time like I am and so getting everyone together will be happening less frequently.

That being said I want to make the most of it and shake off the past few months. I often hear from people older than I am about how much they miss having summer breaks. The past two summers I met a lot of new people and hope that happens again this year. Any tips on making the most of it or ideas of things to do? How'd you spend your free time over college summers?

Just let that **** ride, fam
Stack ya money, and hit up bars, BBQs, just have fun.
Go about your days without trying to purposely relive the past.
Just let it ride out and let everything come

You're right about just letting it ride out. Noticed that often times things come in life when you least expect them. Not trying to force anything, just trying to put myself in position for some good times this summer
Internship, bruh.

There's no summer breaks in da real world
Got one lined up, doesn't start for a little over two weeks though.

Yes. That's my biggest regret. Spent so many bored summers in undergrad doing nothing.

I would've picked up internships in the fields that interest me to gauge the fields themselves.

A lot of kids major in something they think may be cool but never got real experience to gauge if it's something they would enjoy doing until they're actually out in the field. Happened to a few folks I know who now dread their choice or going back for something else.

Why do you even care to compare this summer to last summer? Just enjoy this summer as much as you can - not like you can get into a time machine and travel back to last summer anyway.

If you don't want to feel like you've wasted your summer, maybe plan on going to some festivals, or make travel plans. Many of my friends spent their "last summer" doing as much traveling as possible.

Personally, I'd worked or had an internship every summer since my freshman year, so when I actually spent the summer before my full-time job doing nothing and hanging out with friends it was actually really dope.

All I'm saying is - don't compare your summers and feel bad if this one may not "measure up" - just enjoy yourself as much as you possibly can, however you possibly can.

In here for advice as well. First "college summer" after freshman year. Plan on working two jobs and hardly having any free time. Starting next summer though I want to have an internship in the summer.

To sum it up in as short as possible, last summer was near perfect and because of that I'll likely subconsciously compare the two. I won't actively try to, but I know I will. Say you had a good experience at a restaurant, vacation destination, or some event you went to previously, you'll be hoping it lives up to how it was last time if you go there again. It's kind of like that. However, I don't want to wallow in the past and am looking to create new experiences this summer.

I might have to try and put together some travel plans with friends
