The Elite Chris Paul Thread

more playoff success? Nope. he's played on better teams of late, but he doesn't have more success.

He's individualy performed better than Melo in the playoffs. I will say, what Melo did in '09 was amazing, that included frying cp3's Hornets team. I was there. I'm a Nuggets fan.

I see yall put a lot of stake in this conference finals thing. Im a strong believer in if your not first..your last. All of the top PGs outside of Magic and Isiah never won when they were the man. This is a circular discussion though.

I just ask to try and be objective. Probably shouldn't have expected that lol.

being the leader of your team and letting your team squander a 19 point lead in a closeout game is despicable and automatically negates any type of "success" he may have had individually at that point. he's the leader, the coach on the floor, the guy that reigns his team in when they get loose and sloppy. but instead, he did nothing to get his team on track and do their job.

Not his finest moment. But A few weeks before that, he hit a game winner over the greatest player since Jordan and sent the defending champs home on a bad hammy. It's basketball though. You take the good with the bad and see what you can do next time. All of the greats have had bad moments. Kobe not shooting and giving up a 3-1 lead. Timmy and the Spurs in Game 6, Wilt, Magic, Karl Malone, Stockton. Hell, Cousy lost 9X in the finals. The list goes on. Etc etc.

Those moments should not negate a players accomplishments, talent or what they have YET to accomplish. Let's try and not be so finite here.

It's "better" but to say it doesn't taint a player's legacy especially the all time greats is asinine.

I'm not gonna get mad a guy and put his legacy in question because he couldn't win the Finals. Ewing doesn't deserve a tainted legacy, nor do Stockton, Malone, Payton, Kidd (with the Nets), AI, Barkley etc.

If you ain't first you're last.

In this very thread...you have a guy you've consigned, with a DJ Mbenga avy...that said that the guys you listed above had "meaningless" and "wasted" careers.

You draw the line at the finals then. For you...that's the measure of a great player I guess.

Just give em all participation trophies then. You play to win the game B.

While I don't agree, there are levels to this. CP0 deserves every bit of slander he gets here and more.

since it's generally the same crowd give or take a few people, i'd like to ask a question.

why is lebron "mocked" (for a lack of a better word) for skating through an "easier eastern conference" by the same people who mock (much more fitting this time around) for not being able to get out of the western conference?

serious question.

Only a fool would WANT to go in the western conference. God Bless whoever comes out of there year in and out. Lebron wants no parts of it. Neither would I

Great question. I guess lebron gets the slander cuz he is that guy. Hes considered by many to be the best player playing today and an all time great so it looks like hes taking the easy road goin thru the east. I dont think anything is given tho in sports so thats not my opinion but it is valid. And i dont see cp getting mocked here i just think at some point if you wanna be one of the greats you gotta put the team on your shoulders. Cp has had that chance and yet to do it when it truly matters. I was impressed by his series clincher against SA this yr tho.

ZERO DOUBT IN MY MIND that Chris Paul would have much more playoff success by now if he went over to the Nets instead of Deron, if he had got traded to the Heat somewhere along the way, if the Pacers had picked him up somehow.

Flip LeBron on a WC bottom feeder, Jazz or Lakers, he's not taking them to Finals contenders.

Gobert and Favors  although they aren't the bigs LeBron technically likes to play with, on paper, that's a team that he should be able to go to the Finals with.

Lakers, well, lol, nothing needs to be said.

This is one of the reasons I don't jump up and down on CP3.

I am taking note that his resume is getting real thin in terms of overall team success, something very, very few NBA superstars have to worry about.

But I agree, completely, that while Bron feasts on the LEast, many others are stuck out West.

Even the damn draft can't get it right, the top 2 picks going to the Wolves (with Wiggins) and the Lakers who we all know will rise again very soon. Those are the West bottom feeders, getting stronger, while the LEast just sits there stagnant.

Durant will be back next year, the Jazz quick growth, Anthony Davis out West, and these are the NON playoff teams.

Bron over here pickin on the Hawks, in the "Conference Finals" :smh:

That's exactly my point. If Paul were in the East, he very well could have multiple conference finals appearances. The two seed in the East would have been the seven seed in the west. It took the Hawks until the conference finals to play a team that won 50 games in the regular season. The clips played the Spurs

So how do you discredit his ability and what he's done? That means his perceived "failures" are a product of the Wild West, not so much his ability and or status as one of the best PGs of all time.

If you truly believe that he'd have more success in the East, with a team like the Nets...then is it really asinine to say that he's in the Convo with someone like J Kidd...who played for that very team in that very conference?

I'm not sure how ppl can say Paul hasn't won anything and then bring up guys like Payton, Kidd and Stockton.

Stockton never won squat and Payton/Kidd were both carried to one when they were damn near 40 by other superstar players.

"Yea but they at least made it to the Finals!"

Well, last time I checked you don't get anything for simply making it there.

That's why you guys rip LeBron for his losing record in the Finals instead of praising him for just getting there, correct?
