The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt ===== In Stores Now (PS4, PC, XB1)

got it and been playing for almost 5 hours on and off. just got to the next part I forgot the name. maybe Velen, whatever the second location is.

imo the games okay. I dunno if it's me but I loot everything and have no idea what to use, dismantle , forge or any of that. I did most of the sidequests but I'm only on level 3 for some reason.

honestly the mechanics suck. my horse won't stay on the path and controls feel very loose and flimsy. maybe I have to get used to it.

I do enjoy the side quests but with RPGs I'm always afraid to make the wrong decision or miss something. this is going back to what I said about forging and stuff like that.

hopefully it gets better from where I left off. I think people even said after white orchard the game opens up so I will see.

I think I might have to start over. I'm lvl three and most of the undiscovered area have enemy's I can't kill so I'm stuck trying to get xp. Last thing I did was behead the griffin and ciri's side story. I'm just starting to understand how to play.

I kept trying to finish that bLcl pearl quest I was thinking it's gotta be a glitch, glad that was answered.
I get lost a lot in this game in the side quest and I do skip all side quest cutscenes too this game is a great filler for the summer I must say.

Its like a good book. The world is immersive and has plenty of characters to bond with. I especially love every convo Geralt and Dijkstra. They hate each other just enough for it to be comical

Ya, dialogue is top notch, especially considering how much there is. Really went the extra mile with it.

maybe you guys can give me some input but im gonna go ahead and throw out how i feel about the game after playing all weekend.

i think the games horrible. like i havent really even enjoyed playing it...yet ive had to put in at least 10 hours. and im kind of anxious to go home and play it after work.

let me try to clarify what i mean. traveling is horrible. the horse mechanics suck, even when i whistle for him i have to run and go get him because hes stuck somewhere. and traveling hes always running into trees (because staying on the path lock on with X doesnt work) and about to come into a cliff.

moving around with Geralt isnt great either. in once instance i was trying to get the loot under the bridge and went on the wrong side so i was like no biggie ill just walk on land and go on the other side. nah. there was no low area to climb out of the river bed i had to walk completely out of the way to get out just go get on the other side of something. i even came to the edge ofthe map trying to get out of the river.

im not even gonna talk about swimming.

and thats just getting around, which is obviously a HUGE part of the game.

combat is fair at best. using the signs is cool but sword combat is ehhh. and im constantly having to reposition the camera while im taking people out.

im not even following the story. because after 10+ hours im barely a level 4. ive done all the ?s in white orchard as well as the side quests. i dont know how im not leveled up a little more than that. even the suggested point in the main story says i should be a level 5 to continue.

ive played rpgs like this before. more specifically knights of the old republic which i absolutely loved. soim used to picking up items, crafting, using them, managing your space etc. but this is crazy. theres a million things to pick up, i cant decide what i should keep because i dont know if ill need the item, a component of it after breaking it down, or selling it, etc for a quests. i think its annoying to have to constantly repair your swords, i get the realism but still i could go without having to go to the blacksmith every time i fight a few things.

so i dunno maybe its because im still fairly early in the game (in comparison to how long the game is) and i guess getting used to its feel but i had much higher hopes for this game.

Hmm, thats a lot to address and some of your concerns may be that the game just isn't your style.
But Ill try to answer some things:

Horse: Roach is definitely not the best video game horse, I generally explore on foot, and use Roach for long distances or to cover ground quickly. Exploring small tight areas with Roach is bunz, so I agree with you on that

Walking/Swimming: Mechanics in W3 can be a little wonky, but I can't say that Ive had any real problems with swimming worse than any other game. As far as walking, I think a recent patch is supposed to have made the walking much more responsive? Haven't checked it out yet

Combat: Maybe it won't be your style, but I find the combat (swordplay) to be excellent. If you play fast and reckless that may be why you're frustrated. W3 rewards smart, considered attacks. Parry and Block against human swordsmen. Dodge and roll against most monsters. Use smart timing for heavy attacks

Leveling: W3 levels almost exclusively from completing missions, and the main missions pay out the most XP. Sometimes, even just completing a mid-mission conversation will pay out big XP. So the best way to grow your character is to push through more of the story content. Also, most missions can be handled even if your down a level or two. Don't worry about attempting a 5, when you're a 4

Items/Inventory: I had the same paranoia early in the game about the excess of items. But the truth is that very little of it, especially early in the game is essential for you to have. Especially do not worry about breaking down items. The only thing non-consumable items are used for is to craft weapons/armor and potions. When you get a little deeper in the game and are crafting more of your own higher-level gear, you may need to sort through your inventory to find, or breakdown, the right items, but its never really a question of missing out because you left that one wolf-skin in the tavern back in White Orchard.
Also, later in the game, money really becomes no object, you'll have tons of it, and most items rare and common can be bought from shopkeepers.
To recap: Inventory is not all that important early in game, except for consumables to heal

Overall: I would give the game more time, especially to get out of White Orchard and into the meat of the real game. Plus, that'll give you time to acclimate to the fighting style. Maybe it won't be to your liking, but I genuinely loved the combat. I think its some of the best swordplay Ive experienced, especially against human enemies.

The basic mehanics do suck. Walking, running, swimming, horseriding. I was swimming around a sunken shio and entered through an opening. Got stuck in the ship and couldn't get out. Had to load a previous save. I still enjoy the game alot though even with those problems.

Swimming is the worst.  Horseriding sucks and I rarely ever use Roach.  Those are my main gripes, but once you get into the meat of the game and have leveled up a bit, it's addicting.

Love running up on bandit camps and wiping them out - especially once Axii is leveled up where you can make an enemy an ally lol.

Up to level 14 and am just now starting on the story quests in Novigrad.

appreciate the responses.

ok so...

what should i upgrade?

i used 4 on quick attack.

maxed out quen. (3)

used one on igni

and one on the persuade one (axii i believe).

im a beginning of level 4.

as far as weapons i got both the viper swords. couldnt really tell you about my armor.

i dont really make potions, should i?

cant really think of anything else, but any other tips i should know?

i just started Velen. i dont even think i did the main mission yet. i did the werewolf quest, the priest and the fires quest, and the fake papers quest but i let dudes brother die by accident.

This looks like a pretty good early game skill set, and very similar to mine if you fliflopped the ignii and queen

I played the game pretty organically, so i can't tell you much about what your next gear should be because I just upgraded/found gear randomly across my travels. Sometimes you'll stumble into something pretty powerful by accident, although most high-level gear is also level locked

If you really want to charge ahead and get dope gear, you need to find treasure maps that lead you toward various pieces of Witcherschool Gear, thats the best stuff in the game IIRC

If you haven't already, you should definitely learn and craft the Swallow potion.
It gives you 4 health regen drinks that replenish after every meditation.
It only replenishes if you have a couple very common supplies, so this is where inventory starts to actually matter a little.

Oils and Bombs can be useful for some difficult monsters, but I don't find them very necessary

Yen on the unicorn? lmao

anyone completed the "Follow the thread" mission involving Witcher Lambert?

My mission auto-failed very near the end of the mission, for reasons I can explain.
But Im curious what the payoff is if you complete it

I haven't played in over a month. Need to get back into the swing of things.

I beat the 3rd person in the High Stakes gwent tournament and that douchebag is 2 levels higher than me and i'm having trouble beating him in the fist fight. The fist fight mechanics are such garbage and it doesn't help that you fight in a small space bumping into people and furniture.
