Couldn't find a general college thread. Whether you're currently attending/graduated/dropped out of a college/university let me know how the experience was and/or tips/advice. Anything college related.

I'm a sophmore in Engineering at a university in NY. Freshman year was great, learned new things, finally got to be fully independent for once and came through pretty good with grades and exams. I'm ready for next semester to begin already.

I'm graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park tomorrow. Shout out to all the NT grads

My college experience was great though, wouldn't change a single thing. Contemplated dropping out a few times but stuck with it. One piece of advice I'd give would be to intern as much, and as early as possible. I believe one of the main reason I have a job lined up already was because of my internship experience.

Congrats man. My plan for the remaining summers during college is to have internships. I attend Syracuse University by the way. Would have been ACC rivals a few years back.

Friend of mine graduated from Syracuse like a week ago or whenever their graduation was. They probably have the best yambs out of NY schools.

1. go to class
2. get school work done
3. eat right, stay in shape, get enough sleep
4. go out, party, and meet people everywhere (don't be a shut-in)
5. keep in touch with fam/friends
6. don't do something you will forget (edit: I meant to say regret but forget is also interesting)
7. get involved in something you like, work a PT job, get an internship
8. graduate

I've already failed at 3,5 and 6

For the engineers, do your assignments as soon as you get them. If you have gaps in your schedule, do your work instead of dicking around. Once the work is gone party as much as you can cause the biddies are basically non existent in the field

Learned the assignment lesson already...:smh:
I went for like a half a quarter, so like an 1/8 of a year.

But it sucked during that 8th.

What aspects didnt you like?

I'm 25, did a lot clowning around when I was younger, got my act together at CC, now I'm at a state university doing my thing with a 3.9 GPA as a biology major.

I still do feel different from everyone else. I'm intelligent, but far from a traditional student and I always want to drop out and pursue something I'm passionate about like music production. But unfortunately I wasted those years of my life that I can mess around with partying and gotta play it safe. Hope to get into PT school.

Edit: Also being known in the science building as the hot smart guy is :pimp:

my advice for college kids...have as much as you possibly can without getting into legal trouble..dont be scared to fail

Oh word of advice to the youngins...

MAKE FRIENDS.

In all your classes. Get people's numbers. Start whatsapp groups with your project partners. I do better in all my classes I have friends in. And wind up bagging yambs like that

Best way is to also make a good early impression. Nobody worth a damn really wants to be friends with someone in their class not on point. And that way you don't fall behind early in the year either.

All you guys go away for school? I honestly feel thats the best decision I've made so far in my adult life. I couldnt imagine going to school and staying home with the family.

My advice would be stay in shape. Seen a lot of people gain a lot of weight during college

I'm in my early 30's and in my second run at college. I messed around way too much my first time around. I think it had to do a lot with having strict parents during H.S. Once the college life started, having freedom, a car, a job, money, pretty much took over. Gained 15 lbs during my freshman year of college. Hard to say whether I would change things if I had to do it again. Yes I wished I would have took school more serious, but man, those were some good times though!

The idea of college and the way that society is brainwashed to think that's the best way to go. Felt like a hypocrite going to school. I've always loved learning, but not the education system. Why pay so much money to get a job (that I would probably hate) and spend several years paying back student loans. Not only that, but I hated having to work minimum wage jobs while I was in school.

Most importantly, I never looked up to a pencil pusher
.

Now I'm getting paid a very good amount to learn a trade (electrical) that is an actual real word skill and is always needed, more importantly, it fascinates me and I enjoy waking up for work everyday now.

The problem with college is ppl view it as only a gateway to a job when in reality its a place where u can educate yourself and make important connections

Yeah same here with me I'm 28. Landed a good job out of HS, money was coming too fast had too much fun, dropped my college classes cause I though I had it made. Until life hit me and got let go of my job. I can barely find a job that pays half the wage i was getting right now unless I'm a license mechanic (aviation maintenance mechanic). So I'm going back and taking my generals and hopefully go into mechanical engineering.

You're going to learn more outside the classroom than you do inside the classroom. The friends you make in college will probably be the friends you have for the rest of your life. Always be ahead on projects, this will help if you have a class where your professor might throw a curve ball and it will help with social life. Enjoy your time in college it's the only time you'll be around that many people in your age group and it goes by very fast. The only regrets I have is not getting involved a lot on campus and not knowing exactly what I wanted to do until I switched majors my junior year. Congrats to all the recent grads and good luck to those still in school or on their way to college.

Great to see everyone in here contributing. Anyone have any interesting/funny anecdotes/experiences?
